It's official.....Charlie is gone!
-
Soda PopinskiI think firing him was a weis decision.
-
QuintIt's about damn time. . . I was getting tired of watching ESPN reporting about when it was going to happen.
-
darbypitcher22Well since its happened I'm sure Bob Stoops is on a flight to South Bend as we speak... or at least the phone is ringing off the hook at the football offices in Norman
-
TiernanStoops will never take this job...but he will dam sure make the Sooner Boosters twist in the wind and dig deep in their pockets before he says "No".

TimberHopefully, they will learn not to give out ten year contracts..... if they are not willing to honor them. It is going to cost them $$$. This firing will be an advantage to all other schools recruiting the scholar/athletes..... They can say "Don't go to ND they will fire the coach before you graduate. You can not believe they will honor the contract." JMO
-
sjmvsfscs08They honored the contract. It was "ten years or $$$$$$," not honoring the contract would be not paying him the buyout.
-
sjmvsfscs08It's already being reported Notre Dame and Bob Stoops have agreed, verbally, on a contract.

However this doesn't sound that way: http://newsok.com/bob-stoops-im-going-to-be-in-oklahoma-next-year/article/3421502 -

I am sorry ... i agree they honored the contract. I think it is meaningless to have a ten year, or whatever it was contract, if the school will dismiss them at will. It is fine for the coach to be paid money, but the players are left deciding what to do next.sjmvsfscs08 wrote: They honored the contract. Cmhs74The article I read said Bob Stoops has said he will be back at Oklahoma next year and there is no way he can be in two places at once.
-
WriterbuckeyeThe only way I see Bob Stoops on the sideline in S. Bend is if Oklahoma plays at Notre Dame next season.
I'm guessing that Brian Kelly's phone has rung by now. -
mallymal614Brian Kelly to Notre Dame!!!!!!!!
I think he would fit South Bend perfectly. -

"America's Team"......"The House that Jerry Built".....preseason Super Bowl favorite every other season. Tony Romo gets more pub than 95% of the QB's in the league when he's accomplished less on the field than what many of the others have. They haven't won a postseason game since 1996 yet they are almost always the center of attention. Come to think of it......you root for the NFL version of Notre Dame. Oh the irony.newarkcatholicfan wrote: The Cowboys have sucked for a long time the difference we all can see it and are not stupid enough to believe it to be any other way.
Anyways, glad to see Weis gone. I think ND will get it right this time with the coaching search and things will be better this time around. No "Return To Glory" talk. No "Savior" stuff. If they get it right this time.....things will be better. Take that however you like. -
mallymal614ESPN just said Stoops is staying at Oklahoma.
-
Mr Pat(Stoops): "The questions come up and like I always say I fully intend to be at Oklahoma, hopefully for a good while. You never know what the good lord brings you, but in the end I couldn't be more excited about, even through a tough year, the good quality kids we're working with and the great people here that I work with daily in our administration and you know I can't help with all that's said, but in the end, the players I'm recruiting understand that that's what I'm excited about and that's what I intend to do."
(Reporter): "There is officially an opening at Notre Dame. So, you're not going there?"

(Stoops): "What I am saying is I intend to be at Oklahoma, that's the only place that right now, yes that I am, what I'm looking to do. I will never confirm or deny whether I talk or not talk to anybody. And, I won't be interviewing for any jobs."
(Reporter): "I'm not asking if you talked to anybody."
(Stoops): "Well I just said all that."
(Reporter): "What I'm asking is can you tell me right now that you won't go to Notre Dame?"
(Stoops): "What I'm saying is that I'm going to be at Oklahoma next year. So I can't be in two places at once."
(Reporter): "Well then why not just say no?"
(Stoops): "Because I don't like the way you worded it. So, in the end, I told you what I intend to do. If Joe (Castiglione) and President Boren will have me, that's what I'm going to do. And that's where it's at."
(Reporter): "How would you have worded it?"
(Stoops): "Not like you, obviously."
That's the transcript, definitely interesting how he worded his responses. -

By "ESPN"...do you mean "Tony Kornheiser and Mike Wilbon"? They also said that Ohio State was going to fire Tressel and hire Urban Meyer a few years ago. LOLmallymal614 wrote: ESPN just said Stoops is staying at Oklahoma. -

Nah ESPN news. On the scrolling news on the bottom. You got a good point about PTI though lol.killer_ewok wrote:

I don't get it either, why not just come out and say "I am not interested in being the coach of Notre Dame and I will be back at Oklahoma next year."That's the transcript, definitely interesting how he worded his responses.
Boom! End of story. -

True story. I hate when coaches tip-toe around something and never just give the direct answer to the question then get pissed when they keep getting asked about it.sleeper wrote:

Lovejoy1984I understand why he did it.
1.) Doesn't want to shut the door on ND, who could throw 5 or 6 million a year at him.
2.) Doesn't want to sour his relationship with Oklahoma for openly saying he'd go to ND
3.) Doesn't want to tank his recruiting for this year, incase he stays at Oklahoma, players may take this as a sign he's leaving/wanting to leave and back out of the committment.
Basically he's leaving his options open, as any smart person would.
Just like I intend on coming to my job tomorrow, but if someone offered me a different job, for more money, I want to be able to listen to their pitch. However if I come out and say I'm not going anywhere, they might not even give me the option to listen to their offer. And same goes with my current job. If I come out and say I'm actively pursuing a job at another company, my bosses, and employees may not look to kindly at me. -
mallymal614It's crazy how Charlie is fired exactly 5 years to the day Notre Dame let Tyrone go.
-
centralbucksfanSwarbrick actually told Weis he was gone after the Stanford game on Sat. nite. Although he said it was a process as he and Weis meet on a regular basis.
Of interest...Weis actually called Swarbrick this morning to ask how "he" was doing. Say what you will about Weis, even his arrogance, which was certianly evident early on at ND...I think he is a good man who loved ND and I know for a fact, he was loved by this past and present players. -
Mr Pat
Couldn't agree more, I soured on Charlie Weis the coach but I will ALWAYS be a huge fan of Charlie Weis the man.centralbucksfan wrote: Swarbrick actually told Weis he was gone after the Stanford game on Sat. nite. Although he said it was a process as he and Weis meet on a regular basis.

darbypitcher22So....
Is the ink dry on that contract yet Mr. Stoops? According to Joe Schad one NFL exec says its a done deal. The only formality left will be the buying out of the Oklahoma contract
