    Nice ad hominem response...

Most of the quotes in that article are pretty realistic.

"...most of those guys would make nice little subs at Indiana" - best line in the whole article.

Spielman is a certifiable football genius and is at the top of his game in this analysis of scUM's Defense.

How is Terrelle Proyor so bad at throwing intermediate passes?

cause he throws like a vagina

Really hard to argue with anything he said, the talent is lacking on the defensive side and the bodies required for Big10 play aren't there. The only thing I disagree with is Lloyd leaving the cupboard bare...fact is RR didn't get anything worthy of note on D. I just don't see pinning that on Lloyd. Probably could have been better but not entirely his doing by any stretch.

Um because being good at a sport doesn't translate to being good at analyzing and speaking on behalf of said sport. Its pretty simple.

I thought the article was spot on.

You're right, analyzing a sport and speaking on its behalf is pretty simple. Musta took one too many shots to the head playing LB

Did you ever see Jerome Bettis' stint on Fox? He didn't last.

Was he worse than Irvin Spielman or Shannon Sharpe?

If it's so simple then why aren't you out there profiting in this easy and lucrative profession. Or why wouldn't you use your amazing analytic skills to beat the odds in sports betting and become rich doing that?

You just sound full of hatred in this thread. What did Spielman ever do to you?

Lmao is he your idol or something?

So lol you're telling me all these ex athletes that are announcers now are just that much better than the average person at announcing games? Or is it maybe the fact that the networks just hire them because of their name first and foremost?

And even if he was spot on in this article , his radio show and when he announces games at time gets unbearable, even many OSU fans chimed in this past weekend and agreed with that

No, he's not my idol... but you started and continue an ad hominem attack that has absolutely nothing to do with the article. It would make sense to criticize his abilities if the article was complete garbage... but the quotes from the article are actually pretty accurate here and reflect what a lot of people have been saying.

And ya, the announcers are probably better than the average person at announcing games. They have a spent a lot more of their lives devoted to the game so they should have a deeper understanding and better insight... is that always the case, no? But if I had to chose someone to announce a game I would go with a former pro over any "average person" you can pick off the street.

Can't attack the message, attack the messenger. 2nd only to the strawman as the refuge of the low IQ crowd.

Actually have to agree with HB on this, I have no idea how Spielman has the job that he has, not only with ESPN, but also on 97.1. He's really hard to listen to at times. And honestly, he's not even "presentable". Every time they show him in a booth I fear that his shirt is going to be untucked, or he's going to have a dirty looking beard. He just comes off very sloppy. I know it's not a big deal, but you expect some professionalism from the guys doing the games, and for whatever reason, I always feel like Spielman lacks it.

Spielman knows football he just can't explain it well. With that said, he's a good guy and it's nice that a good guy like him still gets a chance to be involved in the sport he loves. OSU legend, enough said.

I think he's a great person, but that doesn't mean he should get a job because of it. There are a lot of people that know football, an analyst's job is to be able to explain it well.

I think Spielman adds very good insight as to what is happening on the field when he is doing a game. He doesn't sugarcoat anything though, and I think that rubs fans of teams he criticizes the wrong way.

The benchmark is Eric Dickerson as sideline reporter....that was so painful you had to feel sorry for him.

Maybe its becuz he is raising 4 kids by himself and he has other more important shit to worry about instead of whether his shirt is tucked in or not.

Chris Spielman is a genuine Buckeye Living Legend and a very good football analyst. U da Man #36.

    I agree with that.
He's not a polished announcer at all, but I don't care about that, I just want insight into the game, and Spielman tends to bring a lot of that. He's really good at explaining what the defense is doing, and what the offense will do to counter that (and usually two or three plays later the offense begins doing that exact thing).
