This season OSU is giving up 13.6 points a game, which is just about the average for any Jim Heacock coached defense. Here are the numbers since he became the defensive coordinator.

2010 - 13.6 ppg
2009 - 12.5 ppg
2008 - 13.9 ppg
2007 - 12.7 ppg
2006 - 12.5 ppg
2005 - 15.3 ppg

Ohio State has also recorded six shutouts since he became coordinator, and have recorded a shutout in every season but two, and the defense recorded shutouts in both of these seasons because in both 2005 and 2007 OSU won games where the losing team scored only 2 points, which were given up by the offense. In the four years under Tressel before Heacock became the coordinator OSU only had one shutout.

They have 19 games where they haven’t surrendered a single touchdown.
They have 31 games where their opponents have failed to score in double digits (that’s 42% of the games since he became coordinator).

The defense has only given up 28 or more points six times under Heacock (which means they’re recorded more shutouts than games where they have given up four or more touchdowns) and 42 points in a bowl game is the most they’ve given up in any single game (during that same time frame OSU has scored 28 or more 47 times and they’ve scored 42 or more 18 times).

The defense has also scored 17 touchdowns and six safeties for 114 points under Heacock. The defense has scored points in 19 different games since he became the coordinator. That's an average of three games a season with the defense scoring points

If I really wanted to I could go back and adjust all of the numbers for real scoring defense by taking out all points allowed by the offense or on special teams, or determine the numbers just given up by the starting defense.

I'm honestly curious, who do you root for? Do you even have a favorite team? I've only ever seen you bad mouth OSU, but I've never seen you say anything good about any team or talk about how good your favorite team is. I'm thrilled with the second half performance, but it doesn't take away any of my concerns. If Pryor throws the ball more than 12 times against Iowa, Ohio State will have no chance to win the game. And it also wouldn't shock me if Adam Robinson rushes for 175 yards on our defense.

Pryor could throw for 500 yards and 6 tds per game and you would still say he sucks

Penn State only had four completions in the second half today, and two of those were to OSU DB's for touchdowns.

Correct. Having an occasional poor passing performance against a good team is understandable, but he has been pedestrian against every decent defense he's played all year (Miami, Illinois, Wisconsin, Penn State). Like I said earlier, I understand there being some drop off when playing a decent defense from when you are playing poor defenses, but with him the drop off is huge and I simply don't understand how the drop off can be that big.

Yes, Jim Heacocks defense is SPECTACULAR against the Indianas, Ohio's, and Minnesota's of the world.

Now, give me the stats against top 5-10 teams? You know, like the 35-3 beating we took to USC. Or the 18-13 loss to USC in which our defense gave up the winning TD.. Or the Wisky game, in which Wisky did WHATEVER they wanted... Not to mention other big games like LSU and Florida.

Shit, we gave up 20 to EMU this season... Good thing we scored 73 to make it look bad.

HAHA Honestly, you need to read back through your posts. You were negative a couple games ago but you really need to take a step back and take everything in for a second. I mean who, minus a possible ineligible Newton, would you rather have as QB? Your negativity is absolutely ridiculous. Be happy with the fact that we have a QB that has, despite some mistakes, led us to only 5 losses since has been the QB. Realize that some teams would be happy with 5 losses in an ENTIRE SEASON . I would hate to know how you would act if you were a fan of any other team in the country.
