Pete Carroll not making any friends with Rick Neuheisel

  • darbypitcher22
Just threw a bomb for another score already up by 21-7 with less than 2 minutes to go and almost started a broo haha with UCLA at the Coloseum... conclusion is on FSN and I can se some fireworks happening here....

Saw that and thought it was hilarious how excited Pete got. I don't mind seeing that against your rival. That is what a team is supposed to do and it will make for good football next year.
  • sleeper
Yeah, I saw it. Pete will take some heat for that, but then again he's about as classless as they come.
  • darbypitcher22
I'm one for having class, and that certainly wasn't it. I sure hope that if Neuheisel ever has a chance he does exactly the same thing, because in that situation, what goes around comes around. Pete found that out against Stanford this year.

When I think of "classy", Rick Neuheisel is about the last guy I think of.

That's like trying to think of what rabbi would have a good recipe for pork chops.

You guys must have not seen the entire thing.

Pete Carroll was content, up 21-7 he called a run play or QB kneel (don't remember which) to just let the game run out...

Well, Ricky boy had other ideas. He calls a timeout.. peeved by the whole ordeal, Pete Carroll calls a play action bomb that goes the distance to bring the score up to 28-7.

I thought it was hilarious and definitely well deserved.

That's even better. I'd have gone for the same thing, just as if I were up 38 and they were calling timeouts.

Thank you for saving this thread and saving me the time it would have taken to type all of that up.

Pete ordered everyone to the locker room instead of midfield handshakes after the game. Probably avoided a mele with that call.

I dislike USC as much as the next person, but Pete Caroll is a great guy. If anybody watched the story on gameday yesterday about the child that was about to have his only healthy eye taken out, you would know what I mean. Add into the fact his work with the inner city youth, and you have a coach who really cares. Now he may do some questionable things on the field, but I truly believe he is a good human being.

elbuckeye28; Most all head coaches do these type of things and most of them have class on & off the field, not Pete

You're right....I'm sure Rich Rod goes to inner city Detroit in the middle of the night, and Paul Johnson probably headed down to inner city Atlanta after the game last night.

It's still only a two score game, so I'm not sure I fault him that much. I think us OSU fans are used to seeing #1 and #3 run up the middle three times, then Thoma coming out on the field in such situations. An aggressive play call like Carroll's is totally foreign to us :-)

Uh, your faulting Rick for calling a TO down by two scores? Is there something wrong with that? Anything could happen, over the years, things have happened. I think "Ricky" was doing what any coach would do, play out the game to the very end. I see nothing wrong with calling a timeout in this situation.

Ironic that someone with your username says a coach doesn't have class

I personally don't see why anybody cares either way. We threw for a TD against Illinois this year up 23 and I sure didn't care. Besides if UCLA wanted the ball back, a td is a sure way to give it back to them.
  • centralbucksfan
Ok...now that I just saw it on ESPN, Carroll is a COMPLETE MORON. USC had already taken a knee on the previous down. Then a UCLA timeout(big deal!), then the play action bomb, then Pete jumping up and down like an ass!! That was TOTAL BUSH LEAGUE, big time!
  • darbypitcher22
Ok so they take a timeout, big deal, you take another knee and kill the clock. No need to punch another one in there
  • Hb31187
If you're trying to do the right thing, and run the clock out...and your opponent calls a timeout to just put off the inevitable, AND its an in state rival...Its not all that bush league.

Like other posters have said, many OSU fans complaining on this thread and they were throwing for tds up 23 with their first team offense in against teams this year in the late 2nd half

What does OSU have to do with anything about this? They don't, so there is NO NEED to bring them or their fans into it.

The timeout could have been called for any number of reasons. To then throw a bomb, and act like its the greatest thing in the world, is PITIFUL. I don't care if its against your rival or little sisters of the poor. its POOR sportsmanship, its rubbing the other teams nose into it, its whatever you want to call it....but its pitiful and thats the bottom line. THrow a bomb for a TD and then act like Pete did...bad.
I actually like Carroll but lost a great deal of respect after watching that.

Let's forget about the TD pass and look at the reaction from the SC sideline and that's where my problem comes in. Act like you've been there before. I'm a believer that you only get so many TD's in a year and you shouldn't be wasting them on a game that's over.
  • Hb31187
Yes yes there is, OSU fans being hypocritical. Going at Carroll calling him classless and what not. When hes up 2 scores and throws a td pass? How is that any different then the OSU situation? Explain that and ill leave it be.

Lol you honestly think it was to do anything but to try to piss Carroll off and prolong the game? If it were some random team then i may give you the benefit of the doubt...But its a rivalry game. To call the timeout and prevent your opponent from ending the game in a sportsmanlike manner is just as unsportsmanlike, and im glad it blew up in Neuheisels face.

I agree....they want the ball back so USC scores a touchdown and gives the ball back to them like they wanted.

Again, this is NOT about OSU. And I have NEVER seen Tress take a knee, then starting running any kind of play. As a matter of fact, I have seen him run the clock inside the 10yd line more times then I can remember. There is a HUGE difference between late 2nd half, and less then a min in a game. I'll gaurantee Tressel would NEVER do this, even against your bad UM team. So get over your OSU bit.
The timeout? Big freaken deal. SO instead of showing some class, and taking the high road, Pete decides to throw a bomb, then celebrate like its a game winner? Ya, thats REAL CLASS right there!!
