If Notre Dame hires a head coach who gets the job done....
-
killer_ewokhow much will it bother you? Serious question. There are a lot of folks on here who hate/dislike ND. So let's say Bob Stoops or Brian Kelly gets the job and gets ND to being a legit BCS bowl contender. How much will it bother you?
-
Hamp89It would help my heart out tremendously.
-
PrescottCharlie bothered me because of his arrogance. If ND becomes a serious player, I'm alright with that.
-
darbypitcher22I'm not a Notre Dame fan, but if they do return to prominence I won't have a problem with it. Makes for that many more interesting matchups throughout the season.

ironman02I'd like to see Notre Dame get back on track. It's tough seeing such a storied program struggle so much in recent years. It would be good for college football if Notre Dame became a title contender once again.
-
MulvaWouldn't bother me a bit. Of course that's easy to say when they are losing. If they became a legit contender there might be a reason for me to actively root against them. As of right now they just aren't relevant to me. Similar to Florida State or Nebraska.
I don't see it being an immediate fix for whoever takes over though, especially if Clausen bolts to the NFL early.
I predicted 8-4 this year so even with a somewhat conservative guess for the Irish I overshot them. Next years schedule looks pretty soft again, so I would say 8-9 wins isn't out of the question, but wouldn't be expecting a BCS appearance if I was an Irish fan. -
wes_mantoothI am not a ND fan at all, but I think college football is better when teams like them, FSU, and Nebraska are powerhouses. Maybe it is just because that is what I grew up watching, but it just seemed like college football was better then.

You of all people should know, having any sport's "evil empire" actually be successful is always good for the sport.darbypitcher22 wrote: I'm not a Notre Dame fan, but if they do return to prominence I won't have a problem with it. Manhattan BuckeyeWouldn't bother me a bit if they put together a clean, effective program on the field. Just speaking for myself, what irks me about ND is their undeserved media attention based on recent results, arrogant (although lucrative) tv contract and unawareness among certain followers that it isn't the only I-A program that has high academic standards.
-
darbypitcher22I'd say 8-9 isn't out of the question if certain offensive cogs return... if not it oculd be an uphill battle. And yes, I know it'll be that much better for College Football if Notre Dame is great again.
-
ytownfootballWon't bother me a bit, in fact I prefer them to be relevant. I like rooting against them but it kinda loses it's appeal when they're as bad as they have been.
On a side note though ewok...I hope you're staying away from the old lady with that thing you're toting in your pants the way it is...it's quite obvious you feel pretty strongly Stoops is your guy.
Stoops would be a great get. -

I can understand most of your post.....but how is it an "arrogant" tv contract? Name one school in the country that would turn down an offer like NBC offers to ND? Sounds like you're repeating talking points without actually thinking about what you write. This is like somebody offering you a multi-million dollar contract to televise something that you're going to be doing anyways, and that if it is not televised by that station, will surely be picked up by another.Manhattan Buckeye wrote: Wouldn't bother me a bit if they put together a clean, effective program on the field. Seriously, explain it. I want to hear the explanation for "arrogant tv contract". -
Mooney44CardsArrogant?! Really?! Call Charlie Weis arrogant, call the players arrogant, call the fans arrogant, but nothing....NOTHING about the tv contract can I find arrogant. Seriously, I tried for like a minute to wait for an answer, but seriously it might be the dumbest statement I've heard in 2009. I mean.....if anything the tv contract is the smartest thing going for ND football for the past 20 years or so.
-
darbypitcher22Notre Dame was smart on that part.... don't have to share any of that $$$$$

It's the same nonsense rhetoric for any anti-ND people. Should other conferences feel the Big 10 is arrogant for having their own tv network? We're in the information age now, EVERYONE gets exposure. To be honest, I'd be much happier being able to watch games on the Big 10 network or ABC each week rather than NBC. Hayden and Hammond are terrible to listen to. -

Did you ever notice how much Hammond looks like a clown?Hamp89 wrote:

Look at that face, just put some paint on it..... -
darbypitcher22Those two guys are difficult to listen to, there's no doubt about that lol

Manhattan Buckeye"Name one school in the country that would turn down an offer like NBC offers to ND? "
You asked and answered your own question! All of them, because most top programs are in a conference that would forbid them from accepting. Ohio St. can't just strike up a deal with Fox. Alabama and Florida are tied to CBS for the main SEC weekly game just like the rest of the SEC. ND took the money with NBC, they take the criticism if the product doesn't deliver. It hasn't delivered. -
The Equalizerarrogant = we don't have our own solo national tv deal boo hoo
-
Hamp89
What hasn't delivered? NBC cares only about ratings, and the rating sure as hell have delivered. Bad or not, people still watch Notre Dame football.Manhattan Buckeye wrote: "Name one school in the country that would turn down an offer like NBC offers to ND? "

darbypitcher22Whether they've won or not when you're still able to deliver a marquee game like USC and Michigan every other year when its in South Bend plus other key matchups every couple of years you're going to draw ratings.
-
ytownfootballThe NBC contract used to bother me when there was only 3-4 games on in any given weekend, always felt there was another game I'd rather watch. Now, hell, I could care less if they ran re-runs all day, there's a hell of a lot more choices.

Funny how you came back with that "clever" remark and managed to not answer the question. What is "arrogant" about the tv contract? Are you saying ND is arrogant for not joining a conference? If so then say it. BUt you changed the subject rather than answer the question.Manhattan Buckeye wrote: "Name one school in the country that would turn down an offer like NBC offers to ND? "

Also, my question was to imply that, given another school was in ND's situation, name one that would turn down the contract. And before you start spewing your "ND should quit being arrogant and join a conference" bullshit, you should remember how long the big ten dicked over ND, just because it was a Catholic institution. Please now commence with your "get over it, it was a long time ago" line. -
darbypitcher22I think he's saying its arrogant because Notre Dame is the only one with that type of deal... I think its pretty smart business wise
