A question for my fellow Notre Dame fans on here.....

All hail skyhook! You knew Notre Dame would hit the "mass subs" button the week of the game with their receiving corp and then decide to shit their pants when someone chop blocks. Brilliant! -
Crimson streakUnfortunately nothing .... I have to work tomorrow

karen lotzThat sucks CS. Hopefully you can take out some frustration in some way tonight.

athlete37decided after the stanford game that i wasn't going to watch this. glad i stuck to my decision, albeit slight temptations after the pitt and bc wins

athlete37not mine, but found this interesting from domerdomain:
"It goes without saying that Notre Dame is far from correcting its decade-long plunge into obscurity, thrusting most of its fans off without a lifeboat. Some supporters have even accepted their fate and have jumped at will before the vessel cracks in two and plunges beneath the violent waters of college football.
Eight games into the season and there are still fundamental lapses consistently viewable every Saturday. Having Dayne regress beyond the point of new-system jitters and having the defense play exactly into the oppositions’ hands, seems to be the most consistent attribute displayed by our sinking program.
We’ve become the laughing stock of college football, the punch-line in jokes, and the whipping post of most teams. That’s not something Notre Dame lucked into, it was all earned. Parade All-Americans losing the fight to other less-heralded players, week-in and week-out--despite the “five-minute” suggested plan; suggest to me a problem with ND’s culture.
A culture of losing was not only accepted but almost incubated and really does start with coaching. I can’t sit here and suggest to you otherwise. Looking back and seeing the pattern, game after game of not being able to lead a consistent drive against an “inferior” opponent or not being able to stop a drive against the same opponent; should’ve lessened the blow—but it hasn’t. A sinking ship we are and will continue to be as we drown in less than mediocre water. We tell ourselves it can’t get any worse but it always seems to. Much worse.
One word could probably help lessen the sting a bit: emotion, but where has this been? Why is it so hard to play with fire and intensity? It’s a shame when the collective fan-base has more passion than the team. It’s not a miraculous cure for defeat but it’d sure make me feel better. Zero passion, zero emotion, and zero on-field leadership. This Irish squad, seemingly like always, is without the on-field leadership that rips you a new one when you make a mistake or miss an assignment; and having a different group of captains every single game seems to leave our team with broken necks wondering who is going to hold them accountable on the field. Eyes don’t lie and Kelly states that “he likes what he sees behind closed doors.” Well it’s about time those doors are opened because we’ve lost faith in everything we’ve seen. Eight games gone and we’re looking at another 6-6 campaign--hopefully. Player under-development and an inconsistent run-game, plus bad overall line play and a deer in-the-headlights QB making the same mistakes from game one, do not equal the progressions needed to stabilize a sinking program.
The problem is this sinking ship has crashed and burned, burned again, and then crashed while sinking and miraculously caught on fire during its submersed death plunge. I’m not even sure an SOS is valid anymore. But good things are happening behind closed doors so rest assured." -

How the fuck would you know if it's spot on or not? You can't see the future. Please, please don't be a fool and think the Navy game means Notre Dame has "crashed and burned, burned again, and then crashed while sinking and miraculously caught on fire during its submersed death plunge." I actually laughed while reading that it was such a joke; just an overly-dramatic bitch who cares too much about a football team. CALM DOWN.
Here's one:
I guess I felt like the offensive scheme was fine. We just repeatedly did not execute well. The 2 picks and not scoring on the opening drive were all killer.
If (and I understand this is a big if...because, well, these things happened) Dayne and TJ are on the same page and there's no pickoff at the end of the half, Navy only has 28. If we punch the ball in on 4th and 1, we have 24.
At 28-24 the game looks very different.
But, like I said, these things did happen. We didn't execute.
Defensive scheme = bad -
killer_ewokIt's not about knowing the future....it's about being a fucking realist in regards to the recent past. And it's about a lot more than just the Navy game. You can pull a "Baghdad Bob" routine if you want but I can't find much that I disagree with there. You're getting caught up in the last paragraph and some of the words used.
Please tell me why that person's opinion is so far off. I don't think it is. The truth hurts and I don't like it any more than you do but let's be real about the current state of ND football and the recent past. -
TiernanHey Ewok obviously you don't know that a "true Irishman" would never drink Black & Tans you moron. The B&Ts murdered thousands of innocent Irish during the Irish Civil War of 1921 - 23. A relative of mine...Tiernan O'Rourke once told me he'd horse whip me if he ever caight me drinking Black & Tans or pussy green beer on St Paddys Day.

Well, that was an awesome read.
Should we ever meet, I'll take a swig of my Saranac Black & Tan and spit it in your face for shits and giggles. Then hopefully Tiernan O'Rourke smells it on you and horse whips some sense into you. -
sherm03I couldn't get too crazy yesterday. I drank a 12 pack of Bud Light during the game.
Then, when it was all said and done...I drank a 12 pack of Killian's.
It's no handle of Jack...but I was feeling pretty good by the end of it all. -

Can you see into the future? Most football fans at the beginning of the season predicted Notre Dame 6-6 at best. Plus that they would suck. Looks like everything is spot on. Atleast Ewok is seeing things as they are. You need to stop drinking the kool-aid, and accept Notre Dame just isn't that good right now. Maybe getting laid would help CALM YOU DOWN.sjmvsfscs08;530440 wrote:How the fuck would you know if it's spot on or not? You can't see the future. How funny is this coming from a Michigan fan? I mean, are you serious? -
sjmvsfscs08He's apparently not a Michigan fan, just a man filled with unbridled hatred.
Oh man I wish I could get laid.. :'( Where are all of these Ohio State sluts sleeper always talks about? I knew I could smell something walking down Indianola.
Show me one time where I said Notre Dame was "good right now" and I'll leave this site forever. They are not good. They are inconsistent and thus very mediocre. But the key words are "right now," as I expect them to be rather formidable in 2011.merv;530732 wrote:You need to stop drinking the kool-aid, and accept Notre Dame just isn't that good right now. -
sleeperYou're the one that predicted they could go undefeated, with 9 wins being more realistic. Now all of a sudden its the typical ND chant "We have a young team, just wait til next year, the cupboard was bare because Ty was there"
Time to accept mediocrity, 20 years of denial is a long time. -

Yes it is. The truly sad thing is there are a few Ohio Chatter posters who are way too young to remember when Notre Dame actually mattered in college football.sleeper;532374 wrote:Time to accept mediocrity, 20 years of denial is a long time. -
sleeperIt's mostly their parents who shoved ND down there face when they were young. It'll slowly weed its way out, no kids wants to grow up rooting for a loser and nothing defines "loser" more than ND football.

haha My father died when I was ten and my mom could care less about football. I cheer for Notre Dame because I respect the way they run their program as much or more than anyone in the country.
Here's why I don't cheer for the football team (and most programs'):
1) I love rooting for losers.
2) Their players are there to play football and get jersey-chasers. Very few are actually there for school, and I've seen so many in class with one of their bitches taking their notes. They are "dancing pandas," as one friend puts it (who is actually probably a bigger Buckeye fan than you sleeper no lie--he's grossly obsessed), simply there to play ball and then do very little afterword as it is the zenith of their life. I simply don't have much to root for when I know the players are basically mercenaries like most big time programs, they shouldn't claim to be student-athletes because most simply aren't.
3) The arrogance and borderline entitlement. It's not arrogance, it's reality? Go fuck yourself and take all of the "Ohio State is the best program in the history of mankind." NEWS FLASH: Ohio State is not the best university in the country, stop acting like it. I love the school, I think it provides ONE OF the best college EXPERIENCES in the country, but it's not Harvard or MIT.
4) "OH! IO!" .....maybe the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Students find it relatively annoying. I was at an Iron & Wine concert in the Union a few weeks ago, a great scene between some idiot and the lead singer between songs:
5) (And this one really gets me) The huge disconnect between the students and the football team. You would have to go eat at the MarketPlace on Neal to catch a glimpse of a football player. They are almost completely separated from the student body, when in my opinion it's the student body's team. It's not the alumni's team, or even Gordon Gee's team; it's the student's team because it's their university. But the university is run like a corporation (and rightfully so) and so the football team is pimped out for the alumni and fans before the students, because that's where the money is. I have never seen an Ohio State football pep rally for the students. I've seen them at skull sessions, I've seen them outside the union when all of the alumni are gathered. I've also worked events in the Union with the entire team present...for who? That's right, some alumni club or donor branch of the university. Pimping the players for more and more cash.Random person at concert: "O-H!'
Crowd: "I-O!"
Samuel Beam: "wh...what's is that? Some school stuff?"
Random person: "O-H!"
Crowd: "I-O!"
Samuel Beam: "No--What are you even saying?"
Random Person: "It's Ohio! OH-IO!"
Samuel Beam: "....................that's dumb."
More on the disconnect, they aren't really even a part of the student body. I've never met someone whose friend dormed with a scholarship football player (or other athlete no less). Ohio State wants them separated from the student body so they can keep tabs on them, but in the process the disconnect is exacerbated. Shit I don't even know a guy who likes a good player on the football team, because they've never met them.
I guess you could simplify my complain to just: they aren't student-athletes. They are dancing pandas for the university's bank accounts and do nothing but practice, lift weights, get paid by agents and fuck jersey-chasers. Not a whole lot to respect in my opinion, even if they are some of the best athletes in the country. People just like cheering for a winner, but I can't cheer for something I don't respect. -
believer
And soooooooooo you're saying Notre Dame University does NOT stoop to allowing football players who are dancing pandas for the university's bank accounts and do nothing but practice, lift weights, get paid by agents and fuck jersey-chasers then?sjmvsfscs08;533588 wrote:People just like cheering for a winner, but I can't cheer for something I don't respect. -

A thousand times, "yes." Not saying they don't practice, lift, and fuck. Shit that is expected. But there are ~8,000 students at Notre Dame, many of them are athletes. They are put into the random dorm selection just like everyone else, and they stay there. They actually attend a rigorous school that makes them buckle down on academics. They are actually a part of the student body.
