Boise State: Fiesta Bowl Worthy?

  Alright, sitting here listening to the two jamokes talk about Boise's BCS chances and the likely scenario seems right now to be if Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma and gets to 10 wins because of the Fiesta's tie in with the Big XII they'll take Oklahoma St. and possibly a 2 loss Iowa or Penn State team to play them and leave an undefeated Boise on the outside looking in.
  
  Does this scream fucked up situation to you? Yes, I know Boise has played a less than stellar schedule; but they have a marquee win over a potential BCS team (Oregon, pending the outcome of Thursday Night's Game) and they're undefeated and would be in the same boat as TCU.

  I say if both Boise State and TCU finish undefeated, then BOTH deserve to play in BCS Bowls. So, my answer to your question is YES, Boise State is worthy of playing in the Fiesta Bowl. Not only because of going unbeaten this season, but they proved 3 years ago by beating Oklahoma that they can win BCS Bowl games, not merely show up and get beaten soundly.
  
  Also, Boise has a solid fan base, and they will have no problem selling their allotment of tickets and having fans travel to the Fiesta Bowl.

  The BCS is definitely a screwed up situation. You're going to possibly have 5 undefeated teams (FL/Bama, Texas, TCU, Cincy, Boise) and only two of them will get to decide a "champion" on the field. If this season doesn't show the need for a playoff, then I don't know what would.
  
  Boise has proven before that they can win a BCS game. They're undefeated, so they should get that chance again. They haven't been that impressive tonight, at least not defensively, but they're gonna win again and that's what matters most.

  This is exactly how I was thinking as well; Its already a screwed up system and teams have suffered under it, but it would truly be a crime for this to happen to Boise this year if it were to proceed.

  I think TCU would get the vote over Boise. TCU seems to be more exciting to watch and puts up a lot of points, which is what they will look at, along with the fans.
  
  However, because of the Fiesta Bowl in 2006 in which Boise stunned Oklahoma, they may be the favorite to bring back. Either way, yes, they are very worthy.

  Frankly, I'm tired of hearing about Boise St. Yes, the beat Oregon, but they have had a joke of a schedule since then. Not to mention we went through this same thing last year, then they proceeded to get beat by TCU in the bowl game. They are still riding that win over Oklahoma, but I think they would get beat handily by any other BCS team.

  Boise lost 17-16 to TCU last year in the Poinsettia Bowl. I wouldn't exactly call a 17-16 loss to the #11 ranked team in the country being "smoked".
  
  TCU had a very good team last year, and their 2 losses were 35-10 at Oklahoma and 13-10 at Utah. Oklahoma finished 12-2 and played Florida in the BCS Championship Game, while Utah finished 13-0 and beat Alabama 31-17 in the Sugar Bowl.

  Unique...I looked up the score and realized it wasn't "smoked," but again they played a mid major and still lost. Now that same mid major is much better. I honestly feel that they would be a 3 loss team in any BCS conference this year. They just aren't impressive playing in a BAD conference. Besides when they beat Oregon, that wasn't the same Oregon team then as they are now.

  Boise State has a very nice team that is capable of beating anyone in the country.They also have a really unusual blue field. I don't think we should punish them for their schedule. After all, they have come up pretty big when they played teams that should have been much better, given the inferiority of Boise's League schedule. Haven't you folks ever heard of Rudy? Appalachian State? Hoosiers? Don't those kind of results make for new urban legends? No system will ever be perfect. It's like solving school funding. Everyone has a solution and none of them are ever perfect. I like the idea of giving teams like Boise their shot at immortality. At least for a year at a time. It may not be perfect, but I've always liked a system that gives the Boise States of this world a chance. It's too close to Christmas for us to be Ebeneezer Scrooge's. And by the way....God Bless us, everyone!

  It's a simple concept really. We have a system that is SUPPOSED to reward the best teams at the end of the year for their performance all year. You have a total of 10 spots in 5 BCS games, and you're likely going to have 5 undefeated teams...and somehow they make the claim there is no room for one of them?? How the hell does that work?? It's the only system I've ever seen for any type of sport, at any level, where being perfect is NOT good enough, depending on the name on the front of your jersey...now if that name is one the BCS likes, hell, go ahead and lose two, sometimes 3 games. If you travel well and bring a shitload of $$ you can still get an at-large bid. Am I the only one that thinks that it's not necessarily the way the BCS is set up, but the bowl tie-ins that are screwing this whole thing up? How hard can it be to say that the top two teams at the end of the season are going to play in the NC game...that leaves you with #3-#10. The reps for the 4 other BCS bowls get to pick two of those teams, based on roughly the same criteria they do now (distance, crowd, etc) and they have some sort of drawing to see what order the bowls pick in. You'd have 5 games at the end of bowl season with 1-10 all playing, and the NC game to end it the way they do now. They could do all that if they'd drop the conference tie-ins and autobids and just play some freaking football and let it be decided on the field, not in the white collar offices of "who's going to bring in more money".
  
  BTW, yes Boise is BCS worthy. They've shown up in every big game they've played under Petersen. If teams/fans have a problem with that, maybe you shouldn't lose. They beat all their opponents, beat all yours and you won't have to worry about it (unless your name is Boise State or TCU, then you might since the BCS hates you). I don't care that they played an "easy" schedule in your eyes. They played the same level of competition they're on, OR BIGGER. They're a WAC school, they played other midmajor WAC teams, and then stepped up and played a "bigger" school in the OOC. You played bigger schools in your conference because YOU are a bigger school. Quit acting like you did something better than they did. I love it when a BCS conference team goes into the season ranked in the top 10, loses a few games and is sitting right on the bubble of a BCS bid (#11-#15 or so at seasons end), and then wants to cry and whine and complain that an undefeated mid-major shouldn't get in over them. Why the hell not? Didn't Vince Lombardi once say that "winning isn't everything, it's the only thing"? It's the only system of football that's ever existed where as long as you have the right "name", losing doesn't cost you in the way it does other sports.

  The Broncos are more than worthy. People knock their conference and their schedule, but there really isn't any really good conferences this year, and that includes the overrated SEC. It's a disgrace that Florida and Alabama don't play each other in the regular season. The Gators haven't beaten anybody this year, and neither really has the Crimson Tide.
  It won't happen, but I'd like to see Boise State taken on Texas Christian in the BCS Championship Game.

  The only point of the BCS is to have #1 play #2 for the national title. The other BCS bowls then get to choose whomever they want that is eligible.

  BSU isn't an ugly virgin in that case. They played Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl and won.

  ^Nice analogy, but the way the season has gone this year, Boise and TCU look pretty good right about now. Sorry, I don't want a 2 loss OK. State team that has beaten NOBODY in the BCS over an undefeated team that beat the PAC-10 champion. (And yes, I'm calling it now, Oregon over Oregon State 42-38).

  I'm happy to finally see some people with the same thought process as me. The system is fucked up when you could have 5 undefeateds (let's hope FSU upsets Florida today and then Bama and Texas get beat next weekend) to knock that number down to 3 and make the argument a little bit easier to put a combo of Cincy/TCU/Boise against each other in the National Title Game

  Yes. I would pick Boise over Ok. St, Iowa and Penn St.
  Going unbeaten now a days is quite a feat, and while Boise's defense is perhaps not great, their offense is awesome. Boise would hang and beat a Iowa or Penn St. team in my mind.

  Ok St is a joke. They have beaten zero, ranked teams. They have 2 losses and now working on a third at this current time they are down 13-0 to Oklahoma (unranked barely above .500 Oklahoma)

  They are still technically a mid major program. And they weren't #4 last season, which is what the poster was talking about.
