Week 5: Notre Dame def. Boston College, 31-13
-
LeonardoNotre Dame needs a win here. 8:00 kickoff
-
ohiotiger33Fuck ESPN/ABC for moving this game to 8:00... ND is 1-3, and BC just got SHUT out by the underachieving VT. Moved our game from 7 to noon when we have a ranked team coming. Sorry I am a bit bitter. I know more people will always watch ND, I am not that naive. But that game is legit garbage. Maybe they just want to show ND win a game so Lou doesn't put a gun to his own head. BC should get hammered in this one.
-
Cleveland BuckBoston College is awful. The Irish snap their losing skid this week.
-
sherm03The Irish move to 2-3 and get some motivation to come back home and upset Pitt.
Starting the season 3-3 would not be such a bad thing for Kelly's first year. And this game is a must win, IMO. -
slingshot4everI have Boston College by 7 in this one.
-
Skyhook79BC always gives ND fits. I wouldn't be surprised if ND is 1-5 going into the Western Mich game.
-
killer_ewokOff course BC is coming off a 19-0 loss to Va. Tech. They'll have a raw asshole and it's at Chestnut Hill.....at night. It won't be easy. Never is. Gotta find your nuts and remember you're a man and go out and bust somebody in the fucking chops. Crist has got to play better. Quit being tentative and just make the damn throw. Get some stinking pressure on the QB. My goodness. Luck had all day to throw most of the time. And don't call a TO and then come out and hand the ball off to Jonas Gray on 4th and 1. You called a timeout and THAT is what you come up with????? That was some Charlie Weis shit right there. We're only 4 games into the Kelly era so it's too early to freak out but there are definitely some head scratching moments. ND REALLY needs a win here.
GO IRISH -
ptown_trojans_1The ACC is bad, real bad. ND find a way to win.

sjmvsfscs08Boston College isn't all that and a bag of chips. If this game were in South Bend the Irish would have no problem with the Eagles. It essentially boils down to how much of an impact Boston has on Notre Dame. ohiotiger may have his panties in a bunch because the game is at 8:00, but I do too albeit for a different reason. ESPN wants this atmosphere to be tough as nails to fuck the Irish over.
First look at it, and I haven't watched the film on Boston College yet but I have watched Notre Dame get punched right in the jaw by a hard-nosed team two weeks in a row now. They are tougher than you'd expect. You can see guys like Calabrese and Te'o feed off it too. I like Notre Dame's defense, which outside of a nonexistent pass rush played a good game against Stanford, to play their best game yet. Boston College doesn't have an offense you'd write home about. They have a tremendous linebacker corp and that's about it.
As for Kelly, I too saw stuff I didn't like. From the get go, coming out in ace and trying to establish the run? What was the thought there, keep Andrew Luck off the field? If I'm Notre Dame and running Kelly's offense and I have to resort to slowing down my offense to keep the defense off the field....then I'm in bad shape. That's what I saw, an outmatched and overpowered Notre Dame team fight tooth and nail whilst getting stomped considerably.
I simply didn't like the offensive approach this game, whereas the last three games had been near perfect. Lastly, what the fuck was that sequence before the half? He should have not been content with a 6-13 game, because it turned into a 6-16 game at half purely as a result of Kelly's call. His trying to cover it at the halftime interview was pretty funny to me. -
SJBlueJay20A 5th straight rivalry game for a young team with a new coach and delicate psyche. On the road, at night no less against a very physical BC team who hates ND. This is BC's biggest game of the year, as a poster above mentioned I'd prefer they weren't coming off a solid beating at the hands of Va Tech. They don't need any added motivation. The Irish defense better lick their wounds and be ready to go, as BC's oline is very tough and well coached by Spazziani. Hopefully the offensive clusterbomb the Irish dropped yesterday gets resolved in short order. This is a winnable game for Notre Dame, but it's going to be a battle. They'd better run out of that tunnel ready to play. Crist needs to relax and make plays, the oline has to open some running lanes, while I'd still like Kelly to slow the no huddle down some more at times.
The Tulsa, Army, W Mich stretch can't get here soon enough. Allow this team a better chance to grow and build some confidence. But it is what it is. The Irish have to claw, scratch, and bite their way to a much needed W this Saturday night. -
newarkcatholicfanHopefully BOSTON COLLEGE can come out of the coma they were in last week and pick up the win.

Didn't know you were a big BC fan. -
karen lotzNot sure who is saying it is unfair this is an 8 pm game. Its been on the schedule as a night game all year. ohiotiger is only complaining because the Clemson game won't be a night game. sjm was being sarcastic, as noted by his smiley. BC is not very good, don't know anyone who was too high on them at any point.
-
killer_ewokYeah, really. I just said that I think it will be tougher because it is a night game. It's not unfair at all.
-
ohiotiger33Of course I am haha. I dont care to have a night game, just not one at freaking noon. Talk about a buzz kill. Its cool though, ND will win and lou will breathe easier -- i am sure he is on suicide watch after this past weekend, lol Scar and ND losing is never good for his psyche.
-
Shabaka BashaaratI have BC in a close one.
-
dwccrewNotre Dame in a close one.
31-27 -
grodtAgree that this one is a must win for the Irish. On paper we should have the advantage but BC loves nothing more then to beat us so it's going to be a battle. This will be Kelley's first test at ND in a hostile environment in a game we should win.
-
The EqualizerI'm gonna say ND 31-17. It ought to be 31-3 but we're always good for giving the other team 2 TDs they probably don't deserve one way or another.
-
sjmvsfscs08Boston College apparently benched their starting quarterback Shinskie in favor of one of the two backups.

I really don't see the Eagles scoring enough points to keep up with Notre Dame. 31-10 sounds about right. If Kelly loses this one, I will go form 100% supporter to 80%. -
TiernanWe now know Purdue is really really bad which takes some shine off the Dome's one victory. But BC looks to be even worse. This game will be a sloppy, who really cares...but ND escapes with a close win in the vicinity of 21 - 19.
-
sjmvsfscs08Well Notre Dame essentially handled them and they have had a slew of injuries since, so only an idiot would compare Purdue week 1 vs. Purdue now.
-
LeonardoNotre Dame opened as 3 point favorites.
-
AutomatikI think ND wins, but it wont be easy. ND faithful better hope they don't lie down for this one.....because it could happen.
-
sjmvsfscs08^^I don't see Notre Dame's players not getting pumped for this one. It's a rivalry game and Notre Dame needs this win big time.
Don't look now, but the hardest three-week stretch of the season is over and they could be staring five wins in a row right in the face.
@ Boston College: If the Irish lose this game I will be extremely disappointed with Kelly.
vs. Pittsburgh: Pitt is playing extremely uninspired, this game is 50/50. I like Kelly's chances against the 'stache though.
vs. Western Michigan: Kelly needed this game week two.
Navy @ NY: They don't look as good as last year, and Notre Dame's strengths at interior running defense and passing will be too much.
vs. Tulsa: Not a 100% win like WMU, but 98%.
BYE WEEK
vs. Utah: Utah is good and they have a heck of a coach. this is Notre Dame's next big test.
Army @ NY: Irish BIG.
@ Southern Cal: I have a sad feeling the Trojans will be clicking by this point. But a win here and in a bowl game is absolutely fine for Kelly's first season.
I can't see Notre Dame losing to Boston College, Western Michigan, Navy, Tulsa, or Army without a serious, serious let down. Pittsburgh is talented but definitely beatable as they are playing uninspired ball. I look for Notre Dame to rebound and finish 7-5, hopefully 8-4.
