Notre Dame 1-2
-
bo shemmy3337Kelly is implementing a new system. It is going to take a year and Notre Damn will be a good team next year. They will win 9 games next year IMO. They look much better than I expected them too with the new coach and all. They would have beat Michigan with out the injury to their QB and they could have won last night. It is week three and they have lost to 2 teams that are 3-0. ND fans, just relax. Haters will hate no matter what, If Notre Damn wins either game, they are looking like a good team.

Now here is a man who is unbiased. I tip my hat to you sir. -

This would actually be a good post if your were not considered by the ND fans on this forum as a troll.
It's a catch 22, keep high standards and reputation or bend them and compete like they used to.
Did I read that Lou Holtz was able to bend the standards to get some top talent in?
I think Kelly is the best coach they have had there since Holtz. -
dwccrewLet's be honest, Kelly has won every where he has coached. Give him time and he'll have Notre Dame winning again. This is the first season and he still has Weis' recruits (which include slow defensive players that don't know how to wrap up when tackling). Once Kelly gets his players and his system in place, I think ND will be a top program again.

Then Kelly will leave... -

And go where? I'm not saying he won't leave, but I don't see him going anywhere else in college football. Do you think he would leave for the pros? I mean no other college team will offer him more money than ND. -

Kelly has said he is done moving for his career. Give me some good reasons to leave Notre Dame. -

I'm interested to hear where you think he would go? -

NFL....You never know....It seems like every time he builds someone up he leaves. Yes I know Notre Dame is not Cincy, or CMU. I hope he doesn't because Notre Dame football needs to be back near the top. Kelly is a very good coach and a great recruiter, he will have the Irish fighting for a National Title in years to come. -
ytownfootballI doubt the NFL because frankly his offensive style doesn't translate to the NFL imo. He's in a good place at ND, if he gets some defensive help they'll be ok, I would hope to see him focus on D just a little. I do prefer ND to be better than what they have been.
-
karen lotzI don't think he is an NFL guy, and he has already made some comments about not wanting to go to the NFL. The only reason to leave college football for the NFL for any coach would be for money, and I think Notre Dame will pay him well enough. He has moved his family 4 times in a very short period of time and doesn't want to do that again.

sjmvsfscs08^^
Kelly knows that is very true. It's why this recruiting class is LOADED with DE's and OLB's. Speed of the edge is really the only thing this team lacks, along with safety depth. Lyons' commitment will go a long way toward solving that. -

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Kelly a defensive coach before becoming a head coach? -

And you really believe that? -
karen lotzYeah he started as a defensive back coach and then was defensive coordinator at Grand Valley St for 2 years before getting the head coaching job there.

Uhhh yes. -

I thought so, which makes me think he will get the defense in shape after Weis neglected it for the time he was there. -
Tiger2003karen lotz;490436 wrote:Uhhh yes.
Okay I hope your right because like I said college football needs Notre Dame. -
dwccrewCollege football is definitely more interesting when Notre Dame is good.

He also played Linebacker in college. -
Little Dannycentralbucksfan;489288 wrote:First of all, its Kelly first season. So being 1-2 is no big deal obviously. I think Kelly is a quality coach. How much he turns ND around, is yet to be determined though. Winning at Grand Valley, Cent Mich and UC is much different then coaching and winning at ND. He now isn't going to sneak up on anyone.
And last nite, he coaching decisions were questionable big time. 50+ passes? Going for it on 4th down late in game, in opponents territory? LUCKY that didn't cost them game.
And we keep hearing about all this talent that Weis brought in...yet they can't be two teams, UM and MSU that probably didn't come within 20 spots of recruiting rankings in same time span. Who knows.
But its early, and WAY too early to judge Kelly or ND.
This is Brian Kelly football right here. I know this is being raised by an OSU fan and not a ND fan, but just so everyone knows, this is how Kelly has done it for the past 20 years and its the way he will continue to do it. It's all high risk and high rewards all the time. Back in 2008 UC played at Oklahoma. It was 28-20 midway through the 3rd quarter and UC faced 4th and 10 on the Oklahoma 35. He went for it, UC's QB (Dustin Grutza) broke his leg and the next thing you know Oklahoma never looked back. Likewise, I saw times where UC would have the ball down inside the 3, first and goal and Kelly would throw the ball 4 times. That's just the way he coaches football and he will never change, regardless of whether he is at UC, ND or the New England Patriots.
By the way, the man is wrong sometimes, but a lot of time the stuff he does actually works. -
ytownfootballI don't know if I'm an ND fan I want the risk just the reward. They need/want wins. In a high profile program I'm not so sure he can get away with it without a high percentage of reward, look at Les Miles as an example: had those crazy calls he made gone the other way he would have been run out of town imo.
