    .
People were talking about on a consistent basis, not a couple seasons. If you look thru the 2000's LSU was not overrated until the past 2 seasons. They actually done better than what people thought.

    Specific years, OSU 2007.

    This decade:

Michigan (rated high, never could win the big ones and then fell off the map)
Va Tech (always rated high, win games but not big ones)
    ND
    Oklahoma (BCS skid)

Lol, the thread topic is about the past several years. The past two seasons is definitely the past several years.

I never really felt like OSU was over rated that year. I thought they overachieved and then got exposed by a better team. Nobody really thought OSU was #1 or #2 (especially after Illinois) but all the teams ahead of them lost so they got in by default. At least that was my take on it.

If I were picking a year for OSU to have been over rated it would be 2006. I don't think anyone realized how much better Florida was. If Michigan had managed to get into the title game then everyone would still be talking about how great those two teams were. Instead they both got blown out in their bowl games after having walked through a weak big ten schedule.

If we are basing it on being overrated the past several years, and by overrated we mean teams the media and coaches rave about being great on a year in and out basis but usually end up not doing squat, I would say the following:

    Clemson
    Cal
    Rutgers
    Pitt
Florida State (once were great but have not done anything in a while)
    Miami (FL) see above
    North Carolina

I would not say USC, VT, LSU, Oklahoma or OSU are overrated. Granted they get the high rankings every year, but they have at least won their respective conferences and competed at a high level. The teams I listed are given a high ranking every year and we hear about how they are going to go to this next level, but have not even won their own conference, let alone finish in the top 5.

Wait, in 2007 OSU was ranked high, got exposed by a better team but they weren't overrated? That's the definition of being an overrated team.

Being ranked high without beating any team of true value and then getting exposed by a top team.

OSU in 2006 was a very good football team, beat some high ranked teams (hardly walked through Michigan), but just got outplayed by Florida.

In 2007 they were ranked high, but I don't think anyone ever believed they deserved it. They didn't get drooled on like the 2006 team.

I take it you werent on the Huddle back when this game was going to take place? OSU fans were pretty confident in OSU beating LSU.

FYI for those thinking OSU was overrated...they started the season OUTSIDE the top 10 in almost every poll. Through 10 games, OSU had one game within single digits.
Basically, they did what any team could have done, took care of business, and did it impressively. Not just squeeking by, untill ILL upset them. Saying a team is overrated is easy when the entire season is over. That year, many teams were overrated I guess. Fact of the matter is, that year in college football was a very mediocre year. I mean LSU won the title with 2 losses and had many close games. Probably the worst title team of the decade.

OSU played no tough team in their OOC that year along with having a 3 loss Illinois team playing in the Rose Bowl. That right there tells you how weak the Big Ten was then.

And a 2 loss national champ team tells me how weak, mediocre college football was. Its all relative.

Or how LSU had injuries and wasnt full strength from week 4 until the title game. We all saw what happened when they were full strength, whipped VT and OSU. I think LSU beat 7 ranked teams that year, what else were they suppose to do? When's the last time any other champion beat 7 ranked teams?
Or, that the SEC was well balanced and the B10 was just horrible that year? We saw what Illinois did in the rose bowl, besides the what LSU did to osu.

Losing to a lower ranked team isn't overrated, that's terrible logic. If that were the case, every program in the nation is overrated.

Spin it how you choose to. YOu will anyway.

    Not spinning, just facts.

I have to point out to everyone trashing the 2006 OSU team that they not only beat a very good #2 Michigan team, but they also beat #2 Texas earlier in the season in Austin. Unless the entire Big 10 and the entire Big 12 were overrated, then that team was legit.

The 2007 team wasn't overrated, either. They were the only 1 loss team and therefore deserved to go to the championship. That being said, LSU was clearly a better team, and everyone knew it. As someone already pointed out, that was a very mediocre year for college football.
