So you're admitting that you have absolutely no credibility because your argument is blinded by hatred?
I'm far from an OSU fan but I find myself siding with them because I'm objective, despite my allegiances. -

The Pac 10 was down, not undersized lilliputians from the land of Oz like the WAC. -

Hb31187Nevada, Fresno St, Oregon St and Va Tech is as good or better than any 4 opponents USC played in a title year, from what I remember. I may have to look up who they played those years

I mean Butler played nobody in basketball worth a shit in the HORIZON league yet they wound up running to a national title and Memphis a few years back ran through the worst the C-USA had ever been but still almost had the national championship. I don't care if they don't play a Big 10 schedule, fact is they just put together a great last minute drive against a team who has a great shot of going 11-1 in a major conference and they did while the crowd was basically all Hokie fans
And to think, Butler and Memphis were able to do that without "the grind of playing in a tough conference"... -

Take out Oregon State....they are in the PAC 10..... -

It's the grind week after week say for instance in the Pac 10 as opposed to the WAC...there's no comparison and it wears them down. That's the point. -

I heard the whistle plenty early, in fact that's how I knew he had stepped out where he did. I think that penalty was a good call. And probably if it that call wasn't made there it would have ended up to be less time left for VT when they eventually gave up the TD anyway. -

Not Fresno State, according to Enigmaax. Even though they lost by 8 to a 1-loss Cincy on the road and lost by 3 in OT to a 3 loss Wisky team on the road last year, they are absolute garbage and would get blown out by a team like Texas Tech, who would waltz to a WAC championship with their scout team. -

I am not familiar with the system, but I get an idea of what you are saying. I guess I see it like this. We the know the schedules in advance, so if we are going to factor in strength of schedule, they should do it at the beginning of they year and make any adjustments as needed. If you put Boise State at 3rd, you shouldn't be able to come back at the end of the season and say that while Boise State is undefeated, but so is Florida so we are going to put them in the final game instead.enigmaax;474253 wrote:Just curious as to how you feel about the Ohio High School playoff system (are you familiar with it). Boise State could deserve a high ranking now. But by the end of the season, when you evaluate THE ENTIRE SEASON, there could very easily be a number of teams with better wins and more of them. And that is what will count.
There will still be a pecking order and Boise State will fall below any BCS/AQ conference team who is undefeated and will probably not end up ahead of any one loss team from the SEC and probably not the Big Ten, Big XII, or even Pac 10. -

Or because of it? How fair would a playoff be with teams like OSU, Alabama, Florida, Texas, etc getting beat up during conference play meanwhile Boise State rests their starters for 4 weeks because they cruise into the playoff picture after 5-6 weeks.
I never understood how playoffs are any more or less "fair" than any other system of crowning a championship short of throwing a dart at a wall full of names. -

Oh yeah, my bad on Fresno State, A team that also lost 52-14 to Nevada - who happened to lose 35-0 to Notre Dame and 45-10 to SMU and also to 3-win Colorado State. I mean, that loss to Wyoming - a team who lost 6 games by almost 30 points a game, including being shut out by 3-win Colorado - really convinced me that they are a tremendous team. -

I think because they actually have to play the games. You may be right about Boise and stuff, but at least they would have to play those teams and prove it on the field. Instead of it being handed to them because they were ranked so high in the pre-season polls. -
redfalconLet me clarify my last post. I understand that we may think one team is really good and they turn out to be crappy and another team may be a complete sleeper and come out of left field, that being said, factor in any changes at the end of the season and go from there. We already know the Florida has a really tough season ahead of them and we know that after Virginia Tech and Oregon State, Boise State still plays in the WAC, but they still put Boise State ahead of Florida.

You have to be kidding. Take a look at Jeff Sagarin's strength of schedule rankings. -

Ummm...for starters, I do think it is dumb to have Boise ranked that high, but whatever. To say you shouldn't evaluate the results of the season as/after they play out just doesn't make much sense to me, though. -
redfalconYou should evaluate the results after the games are played, but by wins and losses. If both teams win and look good doing it, its kind of hard to justify having one team suddenly jump the other.

Right. Its too bad the Rose Bowl didn't forbid Ohio State from playing in 2009-2010. After all, they lost 28-16 to Purdue, who lost to Northern Illinois 28-21, who lost to a WAC team, Idaho 34-31. It might as well have been a WAC team against Oregon. And we all know WAC teams can't beat BCS teams like Oregon, right Boise (cough they beat Oregon last year cough)? -

So, if a backup quarterback comes in and completes one pass for a long TD, he should be the starter? Because on that one play he HAD to look better than any starter who may have thrown an INT or some incomplete passes.
You have to evaluate a lot of different circumstances. I know you keep going back to that "jumping", but take all the names out of it for a minute. If you guessed who was going to be best at the beginning of the season and you ended up being wrong. Should you change your mind or just let it ride because thats the way you thought it would go? Weekly polls account for that - things change, opinions change, impressions change. It doesn't have to be a loss that does this if you feel you were wrong last week. -
ytownfootballCoaches poll, Harris poll and the computer, three components of the BCS ranking system. It's pretty balanced if you ask me, not the pie in the sky AP poll that relied so much on style points it'd make you hurl.
