Colorado to fill open date on OSU's 2011 Schedule?

  • Mohican00
Lookin like it....The Oct 15th date, which some thought would go to a third MAC school, would be the first Big 10 - PAC 12 game for Ohio State if everything works out.

I'm sure they will be a force next year, NC caliber program.

Yawn. This is really getting old from you and karen.

I think a MAC school would have been a bigger challenge than Colorado... they have been pretty craptacular as of late.

Your not that far off. There are probably 3-4 schools better than the Buffs right now. I would say Central Michigan, Temple, Ohio, and possibly Northern Illinois are just as good if not better than Colorado this year and likely next year.

    Didn't Toledo beat Colorado recently?
  • Manhattan Buckeye
I think its a great opponent, they've been up and down recently, and if Hawkins has another 3-9 year he's likely gone. They've had issues with disciplinary problems (Boulder and UC are party areas anyway), but they have a large and devoted alumni base and are near a major media city. I wouldn't mind a home and home (with a trip to Boulder a few years down the road), would be good for national recruiting exposure.

last year to the tune of 54-38. It was the game before the Ohio State game and I remember a few Buckeye fans being concerned that Toledo might have something.

    and they didn't

I think it is a 'neat" matchup, but nothing more.

While some people will praise this because Colorado is a PAC 10 team and has a "name" -- fact is, a top MAC team would be more competition in all likelihood. There are too many OSU fans who whine about playing MAC schools, even when some of those games have turned out to be pretty competitive.

I love OSU, but being a MAC grad (BG) it bugs me sometimes who little many OSU fans really know about the teams in that conference.

^^^While there may be several MAC schools that would be better competition, the fact remains that their competition is still the MAC, while Colorado's competition is the PAC-10. I would rather schedule teams that play USC, Oregon and UCLA as opposed to Miami (OH), BG and OU. At least the Buffs have the chance to pull off an upset of a good program more consistently than most MAC schools, thereby lending more credibility.

It's not a big plus adding Colorado, but it's still a better addition than any MAC school goes as far as perception is concerned.

This. As mentioned, there are about 3 MAC teams each year (This year Ohio, Temple, NIU) that are decent talent-wise, and would be a near lateral move to a bottom feeding BCS team... you're going to beat either one. I understand getting fired up when you play the other MAC teams who would get beat by half of 1-AA (Eastern Michigan this year).

unless things have changed...and its entirely possible because this article is over 2 months old.......Colorado will still be in the big 12 in 2011.....They must be pretty confident, they can leave the Big 12 after this year.

Filling out the schedule for next year this late isn't easy to do. Colorado is not bad considering the timing of it. I really don't understand how Hawkins is still employed there. His best season is 6-7. Is his son still the QB there?
  • OneBuckeye
^ He is still employed because the athletic department is broke, because Texas takes all the B12 money. Hence the move to the PAC 10 and the need to play OSU for the big payday. Once they get there ducks in a row he will be gone.

    lol forgot about this gem.

His salary is only $900,000 a year, I can't imagine they don't have enough money to buy him out. Their athletic department is big enough. I think they had some kind of issues with their basketball coach too within the last 2 years too so maybe the issue is with the AD?

When the team you support is irrelevant on the national scale, hating is all you got. I feel for them.

Doesn't look like they are too far off from other schools they align with but I dont' think this tells the whole story of their financial isssue.

Beebe is all but positive that they can work out a plan to have them out of the Big 12 after this year, they plan to hammer out the details by the fall.

I can't imagine a deal not getting done. With Nebraska's departure, Colorado lost their biggest rival particularly post Big 12 divisional split. Obviously Colorado wants to leave as soon as possible, and there isn't much reason for the Big 12 wanting to keep a disgruntled and soon-to-be-gone member, particularly one that doesn't field baseball/softball teams.
