Ever wonder how does it feel to be a WR for the Buckeyes?

  • 77Legend
Although the most important thing to do is win, it must suck at the end of the day to be a WR for OSU. So much talent there and at the Tight End spot that does not get used. Mad props to those guys.

Brian Hartline, Santonio Holmes, Ted Ginn, Anthony Gonzalez, Micheal Jenkins, etc. didn't seem to mind.
  • TolCentralCath
Great thread because it's so true. Whenever Pryor does throw the ball, he usually always throws to his "boy" Posey. He doesn't even look at Sanzenbacher who is open a lot of the times!

Nicely put. OSU has put probably MORE quality WR in the pros then anyone in the country this decade. Sure, the past couple of seasons have been a little down as far as QB throwing the ball. But they now have an outrright Big Ten ring and are headed to the Rose Bowl. I'd say that trumps quite a bit of the negatives.

I don't think there is that much talent at OSU at WR this year as opposed to previous years, losing Hartline and Robiskie hurt. Posey is developing into a great player and I can see him being a high draft pick and an NFL starter. Sanzenbacher has outperformed what most people expected and I'd love to see an NFL team give him a chance. Small is nothing more than an athlete (i.e. he's not a football player), and Washington/Thomas simply aren't as good as their recruiting rankings....which happens to all programs.

Its not like Tressels style of play is a secret! LOL You sign knowing as a certain position that you might not be the center of attention. Mad props to the whole team buying into the program and bringing it to the level they have!

When you are rushing for 5+ yards a carry and over 200 yards per game then there shouldn't be any questioning of the offense.

I disagree. I think OSU has good talent, especially Posey. But its young talent. Posey is only a soph, Carter is going to end up a stud, he is only a frosh. Sazinbacher is perfect for the slot. Losing those above did hurt..but only from an experience standpoint. The ones we have now are more talented then Hartline and Robiskie. Just didn't have the experience they had.

Depends on how you define talent....Posey for sure is a stud, but I'm not sure Small/Washington/Thomas are anything more than athletes, but Washington/Thomas still have some time to prove themselves. Robo/Hartline aren't as "physically gifted" as those 3, but their route running abilities and hands made up for their physical limitations.

BTW, also meant to mention that I wonder if Small will get drafted or at least get a FA contract (I'm presuming he'll get at least the latter), the guy has incredible speed and that counts for a lot if nothing else for special teams play in the NFL.

LJ..CBF...that's a ridiculous post. How can you compare those guys who came out of a balanced offense, except Michael Jenkins, I will give him that, but he still has Top 5 WR stats at OSU. Let's see the stats on the others. Also, how can we say OSU is not deep when we have not used them? Duron Carter, Sanzenbacher, Lamaar Thomas, Stoneburner, and Ballard. And another thing, that is why Hartline left was because of the QB situation!

    M. Jenkins> QB- Krenzel/McMullen?- 00-03- 165 rec., 2,898 yds, 16 TD's,
    S. Holmes> QB- Zwick/Smith- 03-05- 245 rec., 2295 rec yds, 25 TD's, 3,123 all-purp yds
    T. Ginn> QB- Smith- 04-06- 125 rec., 1,943 yds, 15 TD's, 213 rush yds, 4,068 all-purp yds
    A. Gonzalez- QB> Zwick/Smith- 04-06- 87 rec., 1,286 yds, 13 TD's,
    D. Posey- QB> Pryor/Boeckman- 08-Pres- 58 rec., 806 yds, 8 TD's (Excluding today's game) look at his projections if he stays until his senior year. 106 rec., 1,712 yds, 16 TD's, roughly. And he is the only one getting the ball.

I think that is something to look at if you are a potential prospect going to OSU as a WR. I didn't even want to bother to gather the other OSU WR's stats for this season, for what?

Hmm, you lost me here to be honest. Posey is ONLY a soph. He has 2 more years. Better recheck your math my friend. On top of that, i would assume that Pryor will get better then next two years, and OSU will open things up. Which means his stats will improve. I see Posey having a 1000yd season next year to be honest. Ridiculous? I think not.

77Legend, if you start at WR at OSU, you are almost guaranteed to get drafted in the NFL. Hell, even Roy Hall was drafted by the Colts. That is enough to answer the question, why would you go to OSU.
  • devil1197
Your progressions on Posey are clearly wrong. How much did his statistics improve from last year to this season? He clearly improved from last year to this season with more opportunities and TD ratio, so you are going to tell me his statistics will not improve the next two season with an improved QB? Right...

You have projected 1,712 yards for 4 years? So he is only going to get 906 yards combined the next two season???

Pryor is only going to develop into a better passer, similar to the progression of Smith. This will lead OSU moving to a passing team but still running out of the shotgun like today.

CBF..check what math? I said excluding today's game, here is where Posey is at after two years. 08-09, 11 rec., 117 yds, 1 TD. 09-10 BEFORE the UM game, 47 rec., 689, 7 TD's. That is a total of 58 rec., 806 yds, 8 TD's. Let's hope that Pryor gets better. Trust me, I want him to, but.....we will see.

Did you say that Posey for 4 years would be at 1,712?

Pryor will not progress in the passing game. The Bucks will win with their rushing game and a stifling defense. Pryor was not a throwing qb in high school, and has developed so many horrible mechanics, that it's a lost cause. With no other QB worth the time on the roster, the coaches had to have spent countless hours during the off season to correct his mechanics, and this is what we get???? Sorry people, but I'd wager any amount that this guy will be a stiff again next year.

Maybe the extra month to prepare for the Rose Bowl will help Pryor improve his qb skills.

Winning cures many small issues. Everyone would like to be the Barry Sanders of their offense, but nobody really wants to play on a team like the Lions (still true today!). There are 11 guys on the field at once, and not everyone can be "The" star. Sometimes you have to sacrifice some to get a lot more. As a player that played on a football team that struggled, I would have gladly traded some of my touches and even playing time if it would have let us win more games. I understand that a lot of these guys are used to being the center of attention of their offenses in high school. But this isn't high school, where you give it to your best player, and he's twice as good and gifted as anyone else on the field. This is major college football, in the biggest rivalry of the year for these teams. Everyone is on scholarship, and there's a reason most of them got their scholarship to play at Ohio State and not Otterbein. I would love to see us throw the ball all over the field to 4 or 5 different guys all game long. But most of us realized awhile ago that isn't realistic with our QB right now. So you do what gives you the best chance to win. I would take 4 or 5 catches for 50 yards in a win, over 10 or 11 catches for 100+ yards in a loss. Sometimes you can have both, but OSU is not that kind of team YET. They will be soon, I think. But I think a lot of these guys realize this and are hanging in there and trying to be ready as Pryor improves.

I think that's because Posey is his best receiver. He threw to Dane today and he dropped a ball when he was wide open with room to run. Not singling Dane out, Posey dropped a ball or two today as well.

Yea, but we are only getting between 200 and 300 yards per game. Yes, we are getting alot of rushing yards, but you can't be so one dimensional. You have to able to throw the ball. When we tried throwing the deep ball, TP would overthrow our open receivers every time. Two td's could have been scored had he had a more accurate arm.

To be a true competitor, we must establish a passing game that can throw a respectable deep ball.

Says the guy with the name "TolCentralCath"... Biased much?

Either way, we put WR's into the NFL and we also win 81% of our games under Tressel. Obviously winning is important, so at the end of the day, I'm sure everybody is happy.

stop embarrassing yourself, and CCHS as well--go away

Well, when you're running for 200+ yards a game, as they have been recently, makes since that they might not use the wide receivers too much.
  • Mr. 300
It does concern me that Pryor's lack of skills is going to keep us from landing the big time WR's over the next year or so. Other QB's will be looking elswhere as well.
