Michigan Expectations and RichRod's Future

No, I'm not saying we haven't had problems.

    I'm saying/hoping our problems are less/over ;)

7 -5 is my guess and thats probably what Rich Rod needs to keep his job unless he goes 6-6 but beats OSU to end the year. IF Demar Dorsey qualifies which looks shakier by the day it could turn into 8-4. If the defense is just plain ole average well be ok and get to that 7-5 mark.

Any michigan fan that thinks UCONN is a gimme doesnt know jack shit about College Football. That game scares the ever living shit out of me. I dont know wtf the old AD was thinking when he signed up UCONN for the grand reopening of the big house.

Btw, Big House still needs a lot of work, but i think they'll finish by the fall easy.

Although I have been beaten to the puncj, I would also say that there is no way indiana and uconn are sure things. I'd take UM over IU, but I wouldn't put money on it, and I honestly think the UConn game is about 50/50

    How's it looking?

I haven't seen any pics lately.

BTW, UConn returns 16 starters. This game makes me nervous.

I think hoping UM's defense is average is a little optimistic. I expect a good offense and a below average defense, maybe not as bad as last year's but not much better. The best defensive player (by far) graduated and I think you still have 2 walk ons starting.

Jordan Kovacs was 2nd team all american ( Freshman team) and has been moved to box safety which will fit his skill set much better. Kevin Leach is now burried on the depth chart behind Kenny Demens who really emerged this spring and Obi Ezeh.

Kovacs is no longer a walk on and he could be benched when marvin robinson comes in

Pretty good, they'll have plenty of time before the seasons starts, but still lots of construction equipment all around and still working a lot on the outside "facelift," like the new brick and the like.

I was inside the stadium for their graduation a few weeks ago, and walked around, things are looking good overall.

M-Rob will not be taking Kovacs spot unless he can come in and learn the entire defense and the calls in about 3 ish weeks. Jordan may never pass the star ranking test or the nfl caliber player test but he's a smart player who's going to do well.

Michigan fans should be rooting for Dick Rod to be fired immediately.

You guys do realize that basically the entire roster hates the guy right? Tough to accomplish greatness when your players HATE your coach.
  • bigkahuna
    ^^^

I would like a source showing that the entire roster hates the coach.
  • SQ_Crazies
You left out a key word there buddy.

But anyways, my source is now a former Michigan Wolverine, was on the team last year. And no he didn't say that because he got cut or thrown off the team--he graduated.
  • bigkahuna
So, a player that graduated said that basically the entire roster hates Rich Rod?

I think you and the Detroit Free Press should collaborate on some stories.

How many players that he has recruited have transferred or quit the team?
How does he continue to bring in talent (Granted it hasn't come out on the field completely yet)?

It's tough to achieve greatness when you have freshmen and sophomores making up the bulk of your line up; you know the people that came to play for him...
  • bigkahuna
    Fixed it for ya ;)
  • SQ_Crazies
LOL ok. Don't believe me, I honestly don't give a shit.

They liked Carr 10 times better, but you don't have to believe me. You're a fan, clearly you know more than a player.
  • bigkahuna
Let me know when I said I know more than "A former anonymous Michigan player." I will say that I know more than an OSU fan about Michigan football though.

The Seniors that will be on this years team are the last players that played for Carr. Did they like him better? Probably, we've all heard the reports of a laid back easy program he had. Who wouldn't want to take it easy and go 8-4 9-3 every year? IF Rich Rod's hard nosed tactics don't start paying off, then yes fire him. Fire him because he's not producing wins as opposed to a handful of players not liking the coach.

Hell, the majority of my HS team didn't like the coach, even his son (Yes I know HS). However, we were at least 7-3/8-2 every year, contended for the league championship, and made a run in the playoffs.

The players hate working their asses off and losing. Winning kills all hatred.

It wasn't based on the work. They didn't work any harder for Dick Rod than they did Carr. It was about his attitude and his mouth. Because Lloyd Carr was a respectable man and he tried to turn his players into respectable men. Dick Rod is a scum bag and he cares about nothing but his own record.

I know a few "current players", and the say otherwise. They also say that alot of the former guys that are griping were soft.

    Sam McGuffie?
Although he didn't transfer because of RichRod. But are you talking about the same RichRod recruits who blew the whistle on his practice violations? Would those be the ones you're talking about?

The man does have a mouth worse than a sailor by all reports, and while some language may be common place in the football arena, there's a big difference between some words on occasion and using it excessively as many have described. Look, the guy is a southern good-ole-boy and that doesn't exactly translate very well to kids from the north, many of whom come from more affluent circumstances than he was used to in West Virginia.

Now, I doubt that the whole team hates him, but it's obvious that he's not the most well-liked coach out there. It's true that winning would probably change his player's perception of him. I think that's one of the biggest problems. His inability (or more likely, unwillingness) to adapt his offensive scheme to fit his talent is probably one of his biggest problems with his players.

Who cares if they like him... do they respect him?
  • bigkahuna
    krambman,

We're talking a lot lately on this site LOL.

    I knew about Sam McGuffie
I also know about Justin Boren.

I was asking how many of HIS recruits have transferred or quit the team? I at least thought the ones who left and blew the whistle on him were Carr's players. The only Carr kids that COULD be left are Seniors this year.

As captain obvious stated, it's about respect. Like I said before, there were several kids who didn't like our coach, but everyone respected him.

Not all guys transfer or leave because of a coach...

That's why I said McGuffie didn't leave because of him. He left to be closer to his family because of some family health issues if I remember correctly.

And the guys that blew the whistle on his practice time violations were guys who had just finished their freshman season, so they were his recruits.

And even though none of the guys he recruited may have left, let's be honest, I have never seen such a mass exodus by currently players when a new coach came in. Yes, you'll often have a few guys leave when a new coach comes in, but not like what happened at Michigan. And I've never heard of a player like Boren (starter, all-conference, son of a Michigan football alum) leave, especially to his rival school. There's something to be said by the amount of currently players who left and badmouthed him when they did.
