Ohio State and Nationwide Arena discussing deal to move Buckeyes into Nationwide.

  On my way to Columbus this afternoon, I heard this being discusses on 97.1
  
  If this would happen, Ohio State would move into Nationwide Arena which would lead the way for an NBA team to move into the Schottenstein Center.

  That doesn't make any sense to me. Why would that attract an NBA team? Why would an NBA team play on a college campus? Is it strictly due to the scheduling conflict with hockey? I'm sure there are other arenas out there that host both the NBA and NHL.

  OSU will never be playing its games anywhere but the Schottenstein Center.
  
  An agreement to share scheduling only saves administrative costs. It has ZERO to do with where teams are going to be playing their games.

  Yeah, sometimes local radio guys will say something and you just have to sit there and think "wtf, I've read like 30 articles on this topic and YOU are the only one to say something like that".

  The difference between the Common Man and the Torg and Hooley is that the Common Man and the Torg know they are morons. Hooley actually thinks he know stuff, he comes off as an elitist and arrogant and I can't stand him. Add in Spielman's bias and it's just terrible radio.

  I was listening last week and Hooley made mention of him getting into trouble for something he said, the quick recap is that he was about to go to a break and said, "We have breaking news, Ben Roethlisberger has been traded, more on that when we return". I was listening live, so I start searching ESPN and other sites and can't find anything. He returns and says something along the lines that a statue outside of some building or something was replaced with a statue of Mario Lemieux.
  
  So, apparently he got a ripping for that from the higher ups, and it was deserving. You get paid for your show, act like a professional. I can hardly stand to listen to him anymore.

  More proof as to why the Schottenstein Center was a terrible decision by Ohio State. All they had to do was renovate St. John arena and tear down the ice rink to construct a Miami-like Ice Arena. Would've saved millions upon millions of dollars and provided an infinitely better atmosphere for both sports.

  Ha, that's why Common Man and Torg can be good sometimes, but the commercial cuts are getting ridiculous. If I listen to talk radio anymore it's 610 or NPR

  Yea that's not the issue. I don't know the numbers, but I would assume that OSU is profiting just fine from the Schott.

  Actually OSU lost money on both basketball and hockey this year. I believe there was only 1 sold out game while women's basketball and hockey continue to close off the upper level for their low crowds.
  
  If the Schott didn't exist, Nationwide Arena wouldn't be in the position it's in financially...plain and simple.

  That is a totally backwards argument. First off, everyone knows that Football is usually the only sport that makes money. The Schott is paid off and had no public funding. Therefore if they lose money on operating costs, they are not losing anything else, no lease money, etc. But just because the sports lose money does not mean that the Uni does not break even on operating costs on the arena for the year.
  
  Secondly, the Schott came about before Nationwide, so that whole point is completely moot.
  
  This is being done because the Blue Jackets are in a horrendous lease and co-operating the 2 would save the Jackets $1 million per year.
  
  Once again, this has nothing to do with the Schott.

  To continue with your argument:
  
  Nationwide isn't losing money, the Blue Jackets are. The Blue Jackets rent the arena from Nationwide and have a management company handle the booking of the events. The Blue Jackets pay the management company with furthers their financial woes. By hiring OSU to handle the management, they are saving money.
  
  So simply put, Nationwide is fine financially, the Blue Jackets are not.
  
  As for the Schott, it was built 1st. It doesn't serve exclusivelly as a host to the basketball teams, they have concerts and other events there that the University makes money off of. So no, the Schott is not bad financially even if the basketball team isn't making a profit.

  The presence of two arenas drives up the bidding cost for those concerts and events. The Schott is an unnecessary structure that has arguably the worst college basketball atmosphere in the nation.
  
  The Schott may have come first, but an arena of that size makes more sense where Nationwide Arena is located around the various restaurants, bars, etc...of downtown Columbus.

  A college arena doesn't beloing downtown, and it's not OSU's fault that the Blue Jackets can't pay their bills.
