UNC Rotation for Next Year

ironman02Looks like Kadeem Jack is most likely going to visit Carolina...and Kentucky.
Let's hope he comes to Chapel Hill first and commits on the spot...or maybe even sooner. I don't want him going anywhere near Calipari. -
ironman02Not sure how accurate this is, but I'm hearing that the decision to transfer wasn't made by David and Travis Wear. Apparently their father informed them that they would not be returning to Carolina when they went home for the summer. I guess David's hip injury did play a major factor in the decision. If this is true, it's hard for me to be upset with the fact that the Wears didn't notify Roy of the decision themselves. It seems as though they didn't actually know what was happening and didn't truly want to leave Carolina. Hopefully the truth is made public sometime because I'm very curious about what happened behind the scenes with this situation.
-
wildcats20^^ Yeah I found it funny that it wasn't David or Tyler who let Roy know, it was their Dad.
-
reclegend22I like that their father informed them, as if they never had a say in where they played college basketball. I'm imagining Kevin Durant's father calling him after the Lakers series and informing him to pack his duffle bag because he will be playing for the Heat next season.
If true, that's pretty ridiculous on the part of the twins' father. But sounds believable. -
wildcats20Per the ESPN article about it, it's true that the father informed Roy.
The Wear twins, who were McDonald's All-Americans in high school at Mater Dei in southern California, had thought about transferring since the end of the season and Dave Wear, father of the twins, notified North Carolina coach Roy Williams of his sons' intentions Wednesday. -
Azubuike24Looks like Calipari definitely is interested in Jack.
Especially if they don't get Terrence Jones.
Still some definitely uncertainties on both UK and UNC's team next year, but I don't doubt both will be better than people expect.
College basketball is becoming like the NFL...year to year anything can happen. -

Justin Knox. 6'9" and 245 lbs. Should be interesting to see if he ends up in Chapel Hill. It's pretty obvious that he wouldn't be a huge impact player, but he would add some depth in the post for next season only. The potential addition of Knox and Kadeem Jack would really be a key to next season since the only post players on the roster will be Henson and Zeller. -
wildcats20^^Hell even if it's just to use 5 fouls I'll take it at this point.
-
Azubuike24Justin Knox is a solid player. He would be an excellent player to add for depth purposes.
-
ironman02Carolina has also contacted Eloy Vargas and Marcus Thornton. Looks like the Heels and Cats may be battling it out for at least three recruits (Vargas, Thornton, and Jack) down the stretch.
-
Azubuike24Looks like Vargas committed to UK. Maybe that means Jack to UNC? Terrence Jones is still open as well.

ironman02hoops23,
Love that picture.
swami,
Not so much.
Haven't heard much about the big men that Carolina has been looking at. As Azubuike said, Vargas committed to UK, Thornton committed to Georgia (I think), so that leaves Knox and Jack. Knox had a great visit to Chapel Hill last week and was supposedly down to Carolina and Georgia Tech, but things have been quiet since then. No idea what's going on with Kadeem Jack, but I would think Carolina has a great shot since Vargas and Jones are now at UK. -
RiverRat13I'd like to see Knox or Jack but not both. No need to give Roy too many guys to play. I don't want to see another 11-man rotation.
-
swamisez11 is too many I agree. Roy would be better served rotating 8.
Carolina is one of the few programs who could get 11 quality players, which is a good (2009) and bad thing (2010) -
ironman02
From everything I have read recently, that seems to be exactly what Roy is planning on doing. It's an either/or, rather than both. Jack's mom made some type of comment about him most likely heading to prep school, so unless something changes with that, it looks like Roy is hoping to have Knox's services for next season only, saving the two scholarships for 2011 and beyond.RiverRat13 wrote: I'd like to see Knox or Jack but not both. ironman02...And it's official. Knox will be coming to Chapel Hill. Should provide some size and depth on the interior to help out Henson and Zeller. Good job by Roy scrambling to find a post player after the Wear twins headed back to the west coast.
-
hoops23Nice pick up
-
RiverRat13Knox is probably the best situation. Gives UNC a third post but doesn't tie up a scholly beyond next year.
-
HeelzGood job by Roy picking up the needed size and only takes a scholly up for a year, looking forward to a great year.

Wear twins are officially headed to UCLA. Big surprise, I know. A few interesting quotes in the article, but I like this one the most.
"They love UCLA," the twins' mother, Gloria Wear, told ESPN.com's Diamond Leung. "Great school, great coach, great program. Why would they want to leave home?"
Well, Gloria, why the hell did they commit to Carolina and leave home for a year? The more I read about this, the more I think these two kids were forced to come back home to the west coast by their parents. I also think it's interesting that Dave Wear implies that there was some type of internal problem at Carolina with his, "I'm not going to go down that pathway" comment. It may be wise to keep inside information to themselves, but I'd really like to know exactly why the Wears left. -
swamisezNot sure Knox is what Carolina is hoping for. The guy averaged 7 pts per game for Alabama in his jr season. If he plays 10-12 minutes a game and grabs 4-6 rebounds it will be a good acquisition.
-
ironman02
I don't think the expectations for him will be too lofty. Like you said, he needs to play about 10 MPG, play some defense, and rebound the basketball. At 6'9" 245 lbs., I'd think he could at least do that. With no other prosepcts available since the Wears waited until the last minute to leave, Knox will have to do. I think he'll fill his role nicely.swamisez wrote: Not sure Knox is what Carolina is hoping for. The guy averaged 7 pts per game for Alabama in his jr season. hoops23I'd rather have Knox than the overrated and underwhelming Wear twins anyway..
