    2000 Michigan St. (32-7)

    2002 Maryland (32-4)
    2003 Syracuse (30-5)
    2004 Connecticut (33-6)
    2005 North Carolina (33-4)
    2006 Florida (33-6)
    2007 Florida (35-5)
    2008 Kansas (37-3)
    2009 North Carolina (34-4)
    2010 Duke (35-5)
The one that sticks out like a sore thumb to me is Maryland in 2002.

Maryland would have had a big advantage with Wilcox and Baxter down low. then add in Juan Dixon and Steve Blake

Why? Because I don't think that Maryland was all that great.
  • Cleveland Buck
That would be a good game. Everyone else would destroy them though. Last year's Carolina team beats them by 30.
  • hoops23
They were destined to win it that year though. Something about that team that just clicked.. Didn't they play Indiana in the championship?
  • trackandccrunner
Yes they did ltrain. That was the year jay williams choked in the sweet sixteen.

Four players from this Maryland team played in the NBA:Dixon, Blake,Baxter, and Wilcox. I think Blake and Wilcox are still in the league. I'm not sure about Dixon or Baxter. That team was pretty talented..

Conclusion: Duke 2010 = worst champion of the 2000's

    I sense sour grapes.
so your trying to tell me that was a tough road?
I'm telling you you're either a hater or clueless.

I am sure that EVERY coach in the country would play NIU over Cal any day of the week.
I disagree. What are you basing this on?

I think EVERY coach in the country would have wanted a Hummel less Purdue in their region as a #4 seed.

2nd Round: Cal (forgettable Pac-10 team) Averaged 79 points per game, and against Duke scored 53.
3rd Round: Purdue (leading scorer didn't play) (the committee could not seed Purdue lower than 4 given their record so someone had to play them
    4th Round: Baylor (legit team)
5th Round: West Virginia (leading scorer didn't play, lost Da'Sean Butler in second half (when the game had already been decided)) but who without bryant, beat Kentucky (aka the untouchables) ALSO, Butler is their leading scorer and he did play (though not well).
Finals: Butler (good squad, well coached, but not even top 5 talent in the country) i read somewhere that they have more top 200 rated players than syracuse.

Conclusion: Duke 2010 = a middle of the road champion in the 21st century

    Fixed.

Listen, I hate Duke as much as the next guy (or so I thought until reading this thread), but you can't take anything away from this team so it's best to just accept it and quit whining. you sound like sore losers, which is odd because most of us didn't have a dog in the fight last night.

You're guys that think Duke is the worst champion are idiots.

They might be the champion with the least NBA POTENTIAL, but they went 33-5, beat every team they were supposed to.

In fact, I'd be willing to say they're the best TEAM that's won a championship in a while, in terms of how all the cogs in that machine work together.

I disagree. Teams are built on upperclassmen, like Duke had. UNC had upper classmen.Kansas had upperclassmen. Florida had upperclassmen. Duke did play as a team, but so did other NCAA Tournament Champions. Individuals don't win NCAA Tournaments.

I think it was definitely the weakest year I can remember, but Duke played very well in the Final Four.

Truck Bryant wasn't WVU's leading scorer, he might have been fourth or fifth.
