DIII State Championship: Orrville vs. Lima Central Catholic

  • thePITman
This should be a great game. LCC is a very deep team and subs a lot. They have a number of bigger kids that work hard on the boards and inside altogether, and their point guard #14 is very, very good, as well. A very solid, well-coached, fundamental team all around. Orrville is very athletic with two big-time players and a supporting cast that has stepped up all tournament long.

This should be a battle. I have a feeling that LCC's team approach on Wasson underneath and #14 on Bolyard could cause some mismatches, so Orrville's supporting cast will have to step up once again, but they can do it.

    Good luck, Orrville!

    LCC's schedule/results. Haven't lost since December 29th (to Liberty-Benton)

    They're really good...but we've taken down 2 parochials so far...what's one more?

They beat Lima Senior, who beat Mansfield Sr. in the tourney...and beat Liberty-Benton also.

In their 22 wins, their average winning margin is 17 points.

    GO RIDERS!!!

From the schedule alone, I'd have to think that LCC is the favorite. But from people I spoke to yesterday, many seemed to think Orrville was the better team.

    Should be a good one!

Orrville can play both the inside and the outside game, and can play either a fast paced or slow tempo game. They are tough to gameplan for.

    Let's go Riders!

    Bring it home on Saturday!

That's LCC's MO as well. They traditionally play a slow game, but this year they've pushed the pace when the opportunity presents itslef.

If I were an oddsmaker, I'd set the line at Orrville -4. However, don't be fooled with how LCC played last game. If I'm not mistaken, that was the first time they had a 20-point scorer all season, as they are the definition of a balanced team. Kirkman, Krieg, O'Connor, Stolly, and Taflinger had all had their games where they carried the offense.
Furthermore, LCC didn't make a single 3 last game, and if you watched any of their previous games, that is certainly an abnormality.

Would love to see Jake have a monster game. Win or lose...6 seniors will play their last game in a Red Rider uniform.

I do believe we're wearing Red for just the 2nd time all tourney. How appropriate.

Anyone else see Jake's quote in the JJHuddle article...."we want to RE-START the tradition." So true.
  • rrfan
I like the fact that Jake "gets it" How refreshing it has been this year to see the team play as a team. One more game for all the marbles!

    Highlights from the Ready game....

Who's that handsome devil at the :48 second mark on press row (red & white striped polo)?

I spent most of the day there. I started at 9:45 with a bloody mary and had my first Bud Light immediately after that. Stayed until 2:00 and then went over to the game. Ran back to the VC after the game and then left around 7 to get home and watch the games on TV.

I was the tall guy wearing the Ready shirt. I'm 6'8" so I tend to stick out in a crowd.
  • RedRider1
    6'8"? I'd have noticed a guy that was 6'8"...sorry I missed ya.

From the sendoff at the school............cover your eyes if easily offended.

exactly rrfan. Not sure what year(s). about 10-15 ...maybe more.... had them on at the game Thursday. It looked hilarious! especially some of the bodies stuffed in them. haha
  • RedRider1
That's now what we wore in 1992. Had to be at least from the late 80's. We're talking 20+ yr old jerseys.
  • 5knots
I think the measure is 1" shorter shorts for each year they are old....that would put them in the 80's for sure!
