Orrville vs Triway at the College
-
FlashWell , what do we think about this game? Should we bring a magazine to read during the game? A good book? Orrville will have to start out quick to prevent this one from being one where you can go to the concession stand and come back 5 mins. later and the score won't have changed.

THE4RINGZAn experienced coach showed how to control the tempo and win the game tonight. Love it or hate it we are down to a one game season
-
OrrPrideHate it...........Oh BTW.......did I ever mention that I HATE PURPLE.....lol
Our time....Our game Riders! -
THE4RINGZLOL

Old RiderExpect the same from Triway...slow em down, try and control tempo. Box and 1 on Jake again. This all worked the first time. If its not broke don't fix it.
I hate the slow game, but it is what it is. We need to establish the tempo early and make them play our game. I like that we are at the COW for this one and the bigger court usually plays into the hands of a team that likes to get up and down.
Go Riders! -
thePITmanTriway is not afraid to run (against most teams, but probably won't want to against Orrville), and has good athletes that are in good shape, and good depth. So the bigger court will give us more room to deal with Orrville's press (hopefully). Once we get past half court, it's all the same.
Triway will of course try to slow it down, but Orrville will NOT let it happen this time. I expect a full-court press and/or half-court traps all game long, beginning to end. After last game, Orrville swore up and down that they wouldn't let a team dictate tempo again. We'll see how it goes. Triway's triangle-and-2 worked well last game against Orrville, so I'm sure they'll try that and a few other things. It'll come down to who executes and makes shots.
Good luck, Titans! -
rrfanI hate that kind of basketball...if you even can call it that! I respect it because it shows the kids will do what they have to to win. However, it is horrible to watch, and often the "best team" does not win. So if you don't have the horses it is a good strategy.
Get up on them early and it won't matter. They will have to change strategy and that plays to our strength.
Orrville boys you have a lot to prove, much payback on the line Friday. Coach big challenge for you on Friday also. The game plan has to be solid and also adaptable to the start of the game.
All that said. Kick some Titan a$$ on Friday!!! -
thePITmanrrfan, it was strategy, tonight, I think. The slower the game, the better we can be at containing Frizell and keep him from getting open looks in the transition game. And when we wanted they to go in man, we got the lead after holding the ball, and they knew we were going to hold the ball with the lead, and so they had to come out and guard us, and they couldn't, as was shown by the 19-6 4th quarter... BUT Orrville WILL be able to guard us, so it'll be a different motive for Friday night. We'll have to play the perfect game to win, IMO.
Go Titans! -
rrfanThePitman- I was not born yesterday, nor do I think you have to play a perfect game to beat us.
A game like tonight is exactly why I am in favor of a shot clock in HS. I do hope you are right about a different movie on friday because it will be a packed house and the kids should get to actually play basketball. -
thePITmanI didn't mean to insult your intelligence. I was just saying there were other motives than being "scared". lol. We thought we were the better team, IMO. But I think Orrville is the better team Friday... but we can win!
Go Titans! -
rrfanI know I never said scared! I just want to see a solid game played friday. Also not the stall game.
-
THE4RINGZAnyone want to meet up for a sandwich before the game Friday ?
Maybe somewhere near the campus so we can park early. -
RedRider1You guys got it covered....get up early (like we did in 2005, but then played their tempo the rest of the way).
The last 2 times these teams have met in the tournament...the team who won in the regular season did not win the tourney game. Advantage Orrville?
Gotta force the issue at every opportunity and limit Triway's easy baskets...they had way too many points from inside 5 ft. tonight. -

Red Riders sweep District 4's top three D-III honors

The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association District 4 recently released its postseason basketball teams.
Orrville picked up the three top honors in Div. III.
Sly Slaughter shared the Coach of the Year award with East Canton's Chad Spurgeon. Jacob Bolyard was named Player of the Year and the Red Riders Ken Landis was tabbed the Assistant Coach of the Year.
Local first-team honorees were Bolyard and Zach Wasson of Orrville, Northwestern's Brennen McKean, Smithville's Corey Caldwell and Derek Orr, Triway's Dana Brooks and Zach Houmard, Loudonville's Skiles Haag, and Tyler Cline and Ryan Moore of Hillsdale.
Picking up honorable mention status in Div. III were Waynedale's Jaron Miller, Hillsdale's Reid Crossen, Loudonville's Dakota Zickefoose, Nate Getz of Tuslaw, Joey Besancon of Orrville, Justin Villers of Chippewa, Brandon Layton of Northwestern, Triway's Nolan Wharton and Smithville's Drew Frizell. -
Rock ChalkThe game plan Triway used was all strategy. This didn't let Smithville run and let Frizell open and denied Caldwell of getting anywhere. They may have stalled but they manned up against Smithville's bigs and I don't see them being scared of Orrville's size either. This should be a good game!
-
rrfanRock- we talked about that yesterday. I think we all agree it was strategy, does not mean we have to like watching it.
Good luck Riders. -
BRFI'm going on record to say that the slow down game will not be allowed. I think that it will be tried to see what we do. Pretty much everybody knows what will happen, then. Pitman: you should be a politician! You got it all covered! AND, I will put in my vote to NEVER bring a shot clock to HS basketball. It's part of the PURE game.
Last night, I chuckled a little bit after Jake hit his third bomb, knowing that he WOULD'NT be taken out of the game because he was "too tired"! Ha ha! -
thePITman
I remember Wildy83 once told me the exact same thing. Haha!BRF wrote:Pitman: you should be a politician! You got it all covered! -
BRFSpeaking of Wildy83, we need him back! Yeah, that's right...it's a BRF call out!
-
THE4RINGZWelcome Rock Chalk we need a few more Triway Homers on this site.
My prediction for Friday is: Triway by 19. 23-4.
How does that taste Mr. BRF????????????? -
BRFI would tell you to leave the weed out of your cigar next time and try another prediction.
-
THE4RINGZI gave up cigars for Lent. I haven't smoked the weed in 25+ years.
With that being said, and since no one likes to watch stall ball, here is my new prediction ...Triway by 19. 85-66. -
FlashHiland boys go down tonite.
-
thePITmanAnyone that reads the Red Rider Sports Blog already knows my prediction from a week and a half ago. I think Orrville is the better team, but Triway plays better team basketball. Triway also has a great coach that can win the big game... But having already beaten them once this season scares me a bit. It should be a GREAT game, though! It may not be as high-scoring as I predicted, but I have a feeling Orrville will press all game and keep us out of our comfort zone. We can handle the press, but Orrville's athletes all over the floor for an entire game might take its toll. We'll see, though. Like what came up in a convo today with another Triway fan, "It's all down to 1 game. Anything can happen in this 1 game."
Go Titans!
