Toledo St. Francis vs. Toledo St. John's III

The rubber match takes place Thursday at UT in the district semi-final. What are everyone's thoughts? I expect SFS to pound the ball inside again since SJ has no one who can guard Storm or Fockler for that matter. I don't expect Loving to only score 5 points again but unless he decides he wants to bang down low, it could be another long night for him.

Also Central and Rogers play in the other semi-final and I honestly wouldn't be surprised one bit if Rogers knocked out the City Champs after nearly beating them the first time around. Central is playing very well though and probably want to prove the last game was a one time thing. What does everyone think?

SFS had their way in the city semis, but the fun is over--SJJ by double digits...and Rogers blew their wad against Whitmer--CCHS by 8.

btw, tell your dad the Blue Whale says hello ;)

I like St. Johns when the game really means everything and in the other contest, I like Central.

If you don't think SJJ won't have a game plan that "corrects" some of the issues from the last meeting, you'd be delusional. They are going to be ready.

I also hear that Storm may not be 100% healthy... If true, that's really going to impact SFS's ability to do what they need to do in this game. They'll have to look to Yodzis and Fockler to do a lot more driving - whether baseline or down the lane, maybe pull up and hit those 10 footers. That's not something SJJ has seen from SFS in the past two meetings, so that could give them some issues.

I guess it all depends on what adjustments Lowe will make, especially if Stanley can't answer the bell 100% on Thursday night. They're going to have to show something else - the three pointer and the dish into Storm will be well guarded all night.

I'd love to see SFS pull this one out, just because I'd like to see another SFS/CCHS rematch on Saturday - to see if they can do something different against Central....but not sure it will happen. I do hope they let both teams play a little and everyone stays healthy. Should be fun!

Don't get me wrong, this is no easy game for either team as evidenced by the first two games. SJ always plays well at UT for one, and they always play well in this round of the state tourney. I stand by my statement that they have no one who can guard Storm as Loving is too small and Heitnschel won't go to his bench guys because they cannot provide anything offensively for him. SJ will have a new gameplan and I won't be surprised at all if they play a lot more zone to force SFS's guards to make some shots and keep the ball from getting into the paint. Hopefully Lowe makes the correct adjustments as well to make sure Storm and the other big guys get the ball in good position.

SFS's guards must play better than they have the last 2 games and throw the ball where Storm and only Storm can get it. Storm then needs to finish at the basket. Will be another good game and should have a great crowd at UT on Thursday night.

Keep picking against us, we appreciate it.

I didn't say Central would lose, I said I wouldn't be surprised if they lost. Rogers came back and beat Whitmer without 3 of their regular starters so they are no pushover and almost and probably should have beaten the Irish the last time. Central should beat them but as I said before, I won't be surprised if they don't. I frankly won't be surprised if SFS loses either.

Any of the four teams could win this district -- almost equal cases can be made for all.

SFS player clothes lined an SJJ player with 15 seconds left in the game. Wouldn't expect SFS to lose with class though anyways. SJJ will play the winner of Rogers CCHS on Saturday night for the district title.

Every sfs game I have seen on tv the kid you are talking about has had a cheap shot on somebody in every game.

It was #24, not sure of his name though.

Cheap shot or shot at the ball? Last time everyone was fired up about the same kid in the city finals against CCHS, it was a clear play on the ball - yet nobody mentions the fat a$$ priest from CCHS who pushed him once he got up from the floor and was subsequently escorted out of the game for doing so (nice example set for the students, Father Tubby!) Replays on BCSN - clearly agressive, but totally going for the ball.

That kids name is Yodzis - probably one of the nicest kids you'd ever want to meet on or off any field of play. Smart, involved in campus ministries, student council, you name it...contrary to slingshot perceptions, one of the classiest kids you'd ever meet...he played agressively in every game, but I've never seen a cheap shot just to take a cheap shot from that kid - not in basketball nor football. I've seen intentional fouls to keep kids from making an easy 2, but if you have agressive players on the floor, you want them doing that in certain situations...you don't tell them to dial it back and let their opponent put up an easy, uncontested 2. Personally, I think that was SFS's downfall - only a couple guys played tough defense - Fockler was another. Some of the other kids, not willing to take a charge or closely contest shots - would rather put up 3s on the other end.

Game's over, SJJ won, so everyone can quit bitchin' and whinin' now...should be a good game Saturday night.

Wasn't a clothesline or cheap shot by any means. He went to grab Norrils to stop the clock and Norrils tried to cut and got twisted around so it looked much worse than it really was. Loving could have easily been T'd up and thrown out for shoving Yodzis earlier in the game and talking crap.

Anyways, this is about the 3rd straight game SFS didn't play well at all. 2 differences in the game were Steinmets who put in 11 points (don't think he had 11 combined in the first 2 games) and SFS's guards doing nothing to help Storm. Might have combined for 5 points in the game which killed the Knights. They are too timid to drive to the basket and then dish off or try and draw a foul. Felt bad for Storm since he was clearly sick and was throwing up on the bench right before halftime. He just didn't get much help last night which is a credit to SJ.

Watching it on TV last night it sure looked like a cheap shot and I don't have a horse in this race.

Yes, I have seen the same thing. The kid is also a huge cry baby. Every time he gets called for a foul, he always cries about it. That play last night was clearly a cheap shot. How are you frannies saying it's not? He grabbed him by his neck for crying out loud! Please watch it again on the replay.

Also, anybody remember the regular season match up between CCHS and the frannies? As time expired and the Irish won :), Yodiz shoved Jay Marquette and was called for a technical.

SFS losing with class? Bahaha! Now that's funny.

Game Saturday should be a dandy. I'm expecting the Irish to be revved up and looking to get some revenge from the regular season loss to SJ.
  • KnightXC1
Yea because no one from Central or SJ ever does anything wrong or something that would be considered classless, like Loving last night shoving people and getting in their face, before Norrils had to tell him to shut up. Sheesh

Ya but he's a good kid and he's a frannie so that makes it okay, you know the old excuse, he's just playing hard...

from what I've seen of SFS this year(three times),Yodzis has been the instigator in an altercation in every game--sorry,but he acts like a punk.
