Mid-Buckeye Conference
-
Rbirdsman01Just switched sites wasn't going to pay so let's move the conversation over to here.
Conference should come down to Loudonville and Utica. Let's here it. -
Rbirdsman01Season starts the end of next week let's get the season started already.
-
spartybbcoachUtica has to be the favorite coming in, they lost some good seniors but have talent coming back. Loudonville always in the hunt with Orchard and Scarberry back. Coach Taylor does a nice job. Danville may have one of the better posts in Aubrey Hazen if she plays to her potential. Could be a tight race or a 2-team race with Utica and Loudonville. East Knox should be improved as should Northridge. Johnstown lost some talent but they have younger players to fill in. Danville needs to find a point guard and get balanced scoring to be a factor. Centerburg has some really nice younger players that could be a nice fit. The Trojans could be the league's sleeper.
-
Bird NationLoudonville. Low in numbers, but some great players.
Go Birds -
Rbirdsman01Well season tips tonight. Redbirds open on the road against a good Smithville team. Should know how good we are by the end of the night.
-
Red_Skin_PrideUtica beat Heath led by All-Ohioan Megan White 72-68. Utica is down in numbers this year as well Bird fans. 3 upperclassmen quit the team in the offseason. Utica has 5 seniors and 1 sophmore who do not dress for JV; all the other players are freshman/JV players. Utica played a freshman guard tonight on White almost all game, and she did a great job and added 9 points and a few steals. Redskins will have to grow up quick, as their bench is all freshman/sophmores. But they have two really impressive looking freshman guards who are going to see a lot of PT this year to get them groomed to sub our starters and to run the show next year.

Rbirdsman01Wasn't the prettiest game I've seen played. Especially Loudonville from the free throw line. They make their free throws this game an 8 or 9 point L-ville win instead of a 1 point win. But with that being said a win on the road to start the season against a very good Smithville team is impressive.
-
Red_Skin_PrideCongrats to Loudonville. Sounds like both of the frontrunners for the MBC race opened with great wins to start the season. Megan White scored 42 of Heath's 68 points, including 17 of 17 from the line. Abby Corbett led Utica with 21 points, Tamra Londot had 14 and 10 rebounds, Bridget Davis also had 14, Myranda Wolfe had 10, and fresham guard Kelly Overton added 9, and also played defense (very well I might add) shadowing White all game long. If Utica's going to contend for the conference or in the tourney, these two freshman guards are going to have to grow up quick, and Overton is already showing she's got "it" in her first ever game! Congrats to the Redbirds and the Redskins!

Bird NationBirds beat Smithville to give them 1st home loss since 2006.
Smithies were undefeated last year, 20 and 0. -
FlashIt was an 8-9 point win until the last few minutes when Smithville came back. L-ville did a good job of fronting Pew of Smithville and rebounding. Neither team looks real deep in numbers. Smithville played a freshman a lot. Was a good first game. Smithville wasn't as conditioned and seemed to struggle some in the middle of the game in keeping a tab on Orchard.

That's understandable. The Lady's have only had 2 weeks of practice because of the Volleyball State run, conditioning will improve with more time...Flash wrote: Smithville wasn't as conditioned and seemed to struggle some in the middle of the game in keeping a tab on Orchard.
Congrats to Loudonville.. Big win for the Birds!! -
Rbirdsman011st non conference win since the 2007-2008 season. didn't win a non conference game all last year.
-
FlashWCAL, Smithville still the favorite to win the district. Miller knows to keep his eye on the prize and everything will work out. I didn't want to make any excuses for Smithville, but if this game was played later in the season, who knows. Its not how you start, but how you finish. Should be the same people at districts: Smithville, Orrville, Manchester, CVCA?
-
Red_Skin_Pride^I would be shocked not to see Heath back in the district finals at LEAST. Utica moved back up to D.II but who knows. It will depend on how they mature as the season goes as to how much chance they'll have in the postseason. Smithville's been good for several years now, haven't they?
-
Rbirdsman01Yes they have Red_Skin. That is why I'm glad Loudonville got moved from the Triway sectional/district. will play in Wellington this winter.
Birds open conference play on Thurs. @ Centerburg. Have to win these games if you want to win the conference.
Flash just be aware that Loudonville only played 6 players regular Sat because one has stress fracture in her leg and the other is out because of a stupid attack a couple of weeks ago. So if this game was played later the Birds would have been better also. -
Red_Skin_PrideUtica beat Licking Valley tonight 60-39. Abbie Corbett and Bridget Davis led the charge again tonight for Utica, with solid performances from Londot and Wolfe as well. 3 freshman saw time for the Redskins tonight, and all played very well, two of them seeing varsity minutes for the first time ever. Overton played solid again off the bench, playing nice defense and contributing 5 points. Looking forward to EK on thursday to open MBC play. Heard they beat Cardington in both JV and Varsity.

4theteamLeague play opens tonight. Should be a good game at Utica with EK. I think the bulldogs may catch Utica off guard tonight and this may be a tough game. I also think Centerburg may surprise the Loudenville tonight with a very tough game, I saw the Trojans only lost by a bucket to Highland and put up 56 points in the process. I will be interested in seeing the feedback from people tonight on these 2 games.
-
BPMGood luck tonight, Lady Trojans! All that off season work starts paying off right now.
I like our chances tonight and in the rest of conference play. -
Red_Skin_PrideUtica beat East Knox tonight by 20+. I believe the final score was 74-53 but I could be off on that. Good to see Utica playing team basketball. The Redskins are getting contributions from many players and getting young players some invaluable experience. Corbett, Davis, Londot and Wolfe all had very solid games tonight, and how about Overton?! The freshman dropped in 11 points and had several rebounds. We need to keep improving, but I must say we are scoring much more and getting it from several places, than I expected coming into the season. A good way to start MBC play, let's keep it rolling against the Johnnies on saturday!!

Agreed, I expected a solid year, but I am very impressed with the scoring ability of this team. I also thought we rebounded much better than we did 2 days ago. The girls were crashing the boards hard tonight.Red_Skin_Pride wrote: We need to keep improving, but I must say we are scoring much more and getting it from several places, than I expected coming into the season.

Anyone got the update from Loudenville tonight? -
Rbirdsman01Redbirds go on the road and beat C-burg 73-41. Birds start the season 2-0. Have Danville at home on Sat.
Scoring L-ville - Scarberry 24, Ryan 16, Orchard 15, Vanhorn 10, Baker 8.
C-burg - Simpson 9, Crego 8, Campbell 7, Moore 5, Harvey 4, Beekman Stoyle Frelding and Compton 2 each. -
4theteamWow, the Loudenville top 5 looks like a Utica top 5 score stat sheet ! This is going to be one heck of a game on 12/12. Circle your calendar MBC fans, this game is going to be a heck of a shootout!
-
FlashRbirdsman, Didn't know that. I thought your weakness was no depth, but that sounds like that's temporary. I knew you were going to a different district this year. The bad news is I think Regina's in that district. You probably can't get out of that one, but you may get to the finals easier than at Triway. Good Luck to the Birds.

Let's get Johnstown out of the way first. I believe it was just last year they caught us overlooking them and looking forward to Loudonville, and beat us. AT JOHNSTOWN. And this saturday, is AT JOHNSTOWN. First road game is always a big test, and with it being an MBC game, I think it'll be a lot closer than some may think. We as fans are ready for the Birds/Skins game, but I hope our young ladies are only focusing on saturday and the Johnnies right now.4theteam wrote: Wow, the Loudenville top 5 looks like a Utica top 5 score stat sheet !
