4theteamUtica vs Danville is on for tonight 2/11 at Utica. It's the last home game of the season. Finally some basketball to watch!
-
Red_Skin_PrideNO FREAKING CRAP. Been a week since we've played. Hopefully despite the recent weather, a lot of people show up for our seniors and help us celebrate their awesome careers!
-
4theteamUtica over Danville tonight 73-31. I really thought this was going to be a much tighter ballgame. Danville played some very good defense at times but Utica was hitting on all cylinders tonight and our seniors apparently wanted a big victory for their last home game of the season. Last league game of the year is Saturday at Northridge. Go U !

Red_Skin_PrideUtica beats Northridge today 54-25 to clinch at least a share of the MBC title, pending a Loudonville wins their last conference game. This will mark coach Michelle Snow's 4th MBC title in 6 seasons, and 4 in the last 5 years. Her career record stands at 108-24 in six seasons. In their 4 year careers, our five seniors Tamra Londot, Abbie Corbett, Bridget Davis, Mary Lugar and Jordan Morrow have an amazing record of 73-9 with 6 of those 9 losses coming in one season ('07-'08). Hopefully, there will be several more wins coming in the next month for these girls. Truly an amazing career for these girls and thusfar for coach Snow.
Congrats to Loudonville on (I'm assuming) clinching a share of the MBC this year. Those two games we played were truly awesome high school basketball games to watch!
Congrats to coach Snow, Tamra, Abbie, Bridget, Mary, and Jordan for another MBC title, and hopefully bring our talented younger players together to rally for a nice tournament run!!!

gilsUtica will be maKing up the game at Newark Catholic next Sat. Feb. 20 at 1:30pm The reserve game starting at noon.
-
Rbirdsman01Yes it will be a split conference title as the redbirds nocked off the freddies this afternoon 46-27. Congrats to the Redbirds and Redskins on fabulous seasons and good luck in the tournament.
-
Red_Skin_PrideI don't doubt your sources, but why the hell would they make up a regular season game AFTER the tournament starts?? This makes no sense to me....
-
4theteamCongrats to Utica and Loudenville on owning a share of the conference title this season. I hope they can run deep in the tourney and help earn some respect for the MBC conference. I really enjoyed watching these two teams play against each other this season.
As far as Utica re-schedule against NC, I would agree that makes no sense. There is nothing to be gained by either team in risking injury to their players in a game that means nothing at this point. Don't get me wrong, I always want Utica to play NC every year, but the risk outweigh the rewards IMO. -
gilsI don't think you can doubt my sources because the AD told me that we were going to make it up because; I have to be there and get everything set up and ready.I don't understand it either, but it makes sense both teams play on wed. and if they win play again on tuesday at least they will not be having almost a week between games.

No no I knew your sources were solid. And that's all I can figure is that Utica hasn't played since saturday...they play a very bad team on wednesday (Hamilton Township) and if they win, as you said, won't play again until tuesday. Playing NC on saturday (and the same situation for NC, playing us on saturday) will keep the rust off and make it feel more like a 'normal' week of games than having a ton of time off.gils wrote: I don't think you can doubt my sources because the AD told me that we were going to make it up because; I have to be there and get everything set up and ready.I don't understand it either, but it makes sense both teams play on wed. and if they win play again on tuesday at least they will not be having almost a week between games. -
Red_Skin_PrideSo does anyone know how tournament games work as far as cancellations go? Utica is scheduled to play tomorrow night, but with the looks of the weather, many schools won't be in session tomorrow. Didn't know if they play regardless of weather (within reason) or if it is cancelled, if they play the next available "good weather" day or how they do it. Anyone with any insight would be much appreciated.

Go to www.cdab.org it tells you the cancellations and the rescheduled games and site changes.Red_Skin_Pride wrote: So does anyone know how tournament games work as far as cancellations go? And as of right now, they still have us playing tonight. Hopefully the snow has stopped for good and we can get this game under our belt and get started for a strong postseason.

Red_Skin_PrideUtica loses 65-54 to Newark Catholic today, in a makeup game from the regular season.
Glad that today wasn't a tournament game. We must only bust out the defense during the week, because NC's jv could have scored 50 on us. I hope we show up a lot better on tuesday, because if we don't, we're gonna be in for a long, long night. I would like to convince myself that we have been preparing for Bradley and our focus wasn't really on Catholic, but I'm having a hard time believing that was the case. We just looked off, and very bad today. I think the first 3 periods combined, we made 1 three pointer. We consistently got beat back on defense, and couldn't hold on to the ball to save our lives. Hopefully that was the bad game we needed to get out of our system; I'll be there supporting them tuesday, but it's hard to expect a victory over a very good team, when you watched that mess today. We need to make a LOT better decisions on tuesday, especially better passing. The one bright spot I saw today was Myranda Wolfe. I thought she played a heck of a game. She helped keep it as close as it was, because honestly it could have been a lot worse. Hopefully we get it turned around, or we'll be watching districts from the bleachers. Congrats to NC on a hardfought win on their senior day.

4theteamClearly something was not right today on the court, I would only be speculating to try and define what that was that I witnessed today. The only quote I can think of - "We win as a team or we lose as individuals".....nuff said. Good luck on Tuesday Redskins! Go U!
-
Red_Skin_PrideThat very well may be the case. Didn't see a whole lot of team basketball or good movement/decisions/passes. Like I said, hopefully we learn from this and we take a few days to get our heads on right before tuesday night. No disrespect to any NC posters on here, but that's the least talented team they've had in about 8 years, and we're lucky they didn't beat us by 20+. We've had some teams recently that would have made that NC squad look pretty average, but today it didn't seem like we cared until about 2 mins. into the 4th quarter...far too late to decide you want to win a game. It's one thing if your shots aren't falling; it's quite another to get outhustled as we did almost all game today. I have confidence that we'll play a lot better on tuesday night (I don't recall ever seeing two bad games back to back out of a Snow coached team), it just would have been nice to see that today in getting ready for a big game. But what's done is done; I hope we put it behind us and move on.

gilsThat was the best game they played all year. After watching them almost lose to Whitehall (who was terrible) I really thought that they would get beat badly. The talent level at N.C. for girls BB is starting to dry up, the girls do not like playing for that coach there are several girls that would of helped them this year but they did not want to play for him. If it wasn't for the Blair sisters I would not want to guess what the record would been this year. On a side note i was watching the Hillard Bradley coaches, they were writing a bunch of stuff down and discussing things that they could do.

Sounds a lot like the situation at NC for girls basketball is a lot like the situation at Utica for a certain fall sport I know of...gils wrote: That was the best game they played all year. And yes, Bradley has been at our last two games, both the assistant and head coach as well as the majority (if not all) of their starters/players off the bench. Which isn't a bad idea if you have a bye like they had. As I said above, I think we'll play a lot better; it can't be much worse than that game yesterday (NC played their best game, and that's easily the worst game we've played all year). All I can tell you is that if we refuse to get back on defense, Bradley might put up 60 by halftime. I don't think our coaching staff will let that happen, but that's only half the battle. We need to play with emotion, like we did when playing Loudonville last month. I haven't seen a ton of emotion since then; im sure our girls get worn down, and possibly even a little bored trying to focus when the majority of the teams we play have won about 5 games or less all season, so it's difficult to get up for every game. However, I hope we realize that this is our biggest game of the season and we need to come out fired up, in addition to executing the x's and o's. If not, it'll be 5 players last game ever, and I'd rather not see that happen quite yet.

Rbirdsman01Redbirds finish off the season 19-1 by defeating Clear Fork 67-41. Here's to preparing for a long tournament run starting Wednesday night.

Red_Skin_PrideWell, Utica played better tonight, but not well enough to win. Redskins lost 58-51 to Hilliard Bradley.
Bradley played well, but they aren't near as good as I've heard from everybody that they are. Had Corbett had more than 2 points, Utica wins this game. I feel bad for her to end her great career on the note that she did the last two games. Her offense just wasn't there tonight, and Londot, Davis, and Wolfe did enough to keep us in it offensively, but we needed our top scorer to put us over the top, and we just couldn't get any production out of her to take the lead during the numerous times the game was tied. She played pretty much like herself in other aspects of the game, but her shot was just...lackluster. It's not all on her as the reason we couldn't quite pull it out, our defense on a whole was nothing special yet again (how many times can you leave #25 wide open? She made half of their points). I think we caused maybe 8-10 turnovers all game; and as we have most of the year IMO, we lacked the killer instinct to take the lead when we climbed back in the game to tie it several times. I just didn't see that crucial play tonight that we needed to put us in the drivers seat and never look back; and it cost us. I saw a lot of good plays, and a team that was competing, but not a team that wanted to step on the throat when we had the chance (and we had a few chances). I saw a team that played not to lose, instead of playing to win. And that's not going to get it against a team that's been in many close games with other good teams this year.
I congratulate our 5 seniors on an outstanding career, and I really wish it wasn't over quite yet. Their accomplishments over the last 4 years are something that won't soon be forgotten, but hopefully these last two games will be. We have a lot to look forward to next year as a team and in our conference. We'll be younger next year than any team coach Snow has had. And I hope to hell that the year after next we are back to D.III where we belong. The OHSAA cutoff for a team like ours is a cruel joke at best, and I honestly can't see us winning many games in the postseason as long as we're in D.II. Bradley is going to a force next year, just as an FYI for everbody. -
Rbirdsman01Redbirds move on to the sectional final by beating Luthern West 54-38 @ Wellington this evening. Tipoff will be Sat @ 2:30.

babs77Congratulations Redbirds on a win in the semi-finals tonight, advancing to the district finals.
Quite a game for Vansickle and 5 in double figures, winning 65 to 57. Good luck!
