Sorry but Salem looks a bit slow to run!

Hubbard beat West Branch tonight 50-40 while Ravenna knocked off Salem 51-48. Looks like Hubbard vs. Struthers, Mooney vs. Ravenna, Poland vs. Ravenna Southeast, and Streetsboro vs Niles.

I like Struthers, Mooney, Poland, and Niles in the upset. IF Niles shoots the ball well, they are a very dangerous team. Plus they have a premier scorer in Ryan Franz.

When has Salem "run" this whole season? Both times I watched them, they sat in a half court 2-3 defense and threw at least 15 passes until they took a shot (which they usually missed).

Couldn't agree more! Good luck to your Struthers Wildcats vs. Hubbard. Hopefully we will meet up in a week or so :)

Which is precisely the reason for the post: ... "IF" the team is allowed to run and use their athleticism ............

I don't relish saying it, but we have a coach who has no idea what he is doing, particularly given the type of players we have and their talent level. He is the chief-in-charge of underachievement and failure to reach potential ........ for 3 years now. I feel extremely bad for the players and those who have gone before them.

It goes without saying, change is long overdue.

Poland beat Ravenna Southeast tonight 99-51 and Niles McKinley beat Streetsboro 65-58. Should make for an interesting matchup between the Bulldogs and Red Dragons next Monday.

    Good win for Niles.

^It is, anyone think the Dragons have a shot at knocking off Poland??! Close game AT Niles a few weeks ago...

Fatimus will not shoot like he does at home, with that being said, Frantz is a great shooter and Niles loves playing at boardman, Poland be weary of the upset bug!

    Poland/Niles matchups this year:

    01-29-10 Poland 87 Niles 76 F
    02-16-10 Niles 73 Poland 107 F

11 point game a Niles. Certainly not a gimme for Poland in this matchup. Stay focused dogs!

I'm not so sure about this.....Fatimus had 40 at Canfield this year and had 22 points last night in their opener against Southeast at Boardman. I don't think it matters where they play, Fatimus will get his points. However, the difference in this game will be whether Niles can execute breaking Poland's press and get some easy layups in transition. That's the reason it was such a close game at Niles. I think Poland will come ready to play and come out with the same punch as when they beat Niles at home by 30+ points. I'm not saying that this game will be that lopsided, but I look for the Dogs to take care of business by 15+. Best of luck to both teams and others playing later this week!

    bulldog,
Agree about Fatimus. He will be either hot , very hot or cold no matter where he is playing. The court/basket does not really matter to him. Hubbard/Struthers winner versus Mooney next week should be very interesting. Hubbard is definately at a disadvantage without Drummond, but they are learning to play without him and they have basketball players. Struthers could definately make it to the finals and I am hoping for such, but they also could be finished tonight. Either Struthers or Hubbard can beat Mooney because they have more pure basketball players, but Mooney is well coached, the players are winners in other sports, and they will carry an attitude on the court against anyone other than Poland. I can't see either Hubbard or Struthers ending up within 15-20 points of Poland. Mooney could either play Poland real close, if Poland is off their game or get blown out big time.

Does anyone know if Drummond will be back for Hubbard against Struthers? If he is, I really believe the Eagles can beat the 'Cats. Also, Poland-Niles will be ugly.
Bulldog, why not post the Tribune articles? Their writers are so much better than the Vindy's ;)

Watched both games tonight . . . some observations:

    1) Ravenna is awful -- and the fact that they beat Salem says a lot about the Quaker program.
    2) Mooney better learn to take care of the ball or they will get blown out Wednesday
    3) Nobody plays harder than Hubbard, but they just don't have enough talent to compete
    4) Struthers is the best-coached team in this District Tourney
    5) I don't see how Poland can possibly lose this tournament

    Predictions for the semi-final games:

    Poland 82
    Niles 59

    Mooney 56
    Struthers 51 (just a hunch)

    Final: Poland 76
    Mooney 56

He was hurt in January. The optimistic target date for his return was the Struthers game. It doesn't really matter now. By the way, I have no horse in this race. I do agree with the predictions above though.

Hopefully it's finally time for a coaching change in Salem.

I think the Mooney Struthers game will be close, but I can't foresee Struthers losing this game. They will find a way to win and play for the district championship. However, I think everyone wants to see the Poland vs. Struthers rematch. I really don't think Poland would have as easy of a time with the Cats as they did earlier this season and I think it would be a great game and great atmosphere. Additionally, I think it provides the opportunity for Struthers to get the respect they deserve if they can take down the Bulldogs. No doubt that either of these teams would represent the area well at the Canton regional. Best of luck to the all the teams still remaining, particularly the Dogs and Cats :)

Yes it does. Hopefully we do something about it.
