Lets get some WCL hoops discussion going and see what wayne co. huddlers made the jump (i took dorksens message in the paper this morning). Who is out there from chippewa, dalton, smithville, norwayne, northwestern, waynedale, rittman or hillsdale? We had a good prediction thread rolling in the other place.

What's up with dropping the $ Bomb on the huddlers? Anyway The bulldogs are putting out another young team this year, but they'll be more experienced this yearsince many of them played as sophmores. Should be able to make a good run at the league. GO DOGS!!!

    Smithville
    Dalton
And from there, I have no clue.
  • 1486wd
hillsdale and northwestern should be tough as well - they should be the top 4 in my opinion. The huskies just reload, hillsdale will have good height and some quality guards. Dalton will be deep and fast, but small. Smithville loses some great players in KK, Bates and carpenter, but returns orr, caldwell, frizell. I actually think Norwayne and rittman will be solid as well. No expecting a lot out of chipps and waynedale

I am glad to see all the normal names have come over here. I'm finally back with my real user name after being banned and hiding as eHarmony the last year plus.

I first thought Smithville would be the favorite but still be down; but after talking to some people that were at their Lexington scrimmage, it seems like they are going to be very strong once again. Cool!

Good to see you PITman. Never new thePITman=eHarmony.

I was not there but can try to find out. We had our own scrimmage at 10. Who scrimmages at 8:30am? Really!? LoL

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the time.. And sleep trumped a long drive to Lex.

DALTON GOING TO BE SMALL AND FAST SHOULD BE NUMBER OF KIDS OFF THE BENCH TO KEEP FRESH GO DAWGS !!!!!!!!!!!
  • 1486wd
good to see you here beverboy. Yep, the bulldogs should go at least 9 deep and have lots of speed for an up and down game - they will be awful short, though
  • tsst_fballfan
Count the younger Bates in the Smithville mix too. I heard although they may not be as big without KK they will make up for it being better defensively. Should be another fun season.
  • 1486wd
yea i watched an 8th grade game last year, dalton vs smithville and there were two of the more talented 8th graders that I have seen in many, many years in that game. Bates for smithville, and Moyer for dalton. Look out for those two over the next 4 years - both athletic and skilled.

I'M GLAD THAT EVERYONE IS JUMPING OVER TO HERE WHERE'S ONEDAWG

Im very interested to see how the Dogs do this year. The Dogs basketball team will be a lot like the football team.

Huskies win the WCAL. (Yes in BASKETBALL and yes THIS YEAR).

Proud NWN Alumni. (who picks them every year to win the league.)

    Thank you.
  • 1486wd
they will definitely be in the mix - Alberts is the best coach in the league.
  • WCAL
I think this could be year in which the league champ has 3 losses. The league is very balanced between, Smithville, Northwestern, Hillsdale, Dalton, Rittman, and Norwayne, while Chippewa and Waynedale bring up the rear

Hillsdale is the one I can't decide on yet. they let go or should I say ran out a pretty good coach. I know the people of Hillsdale didn't like him, but kids that were tough enough and disciplined enough to stick it out, played hard for him. I heard they hired their middle school coach. he will soon find out, titles in Middle school when all your kids are three inches taller than every kid on the floor are not easilly won at the high school level.

Smithville I believe is the favorite, but they will NOT be as good as they were last year. Everyone keeps saying how good all of their other players are, but the fact is, is that Tyler bates made some of those kids look good as well as Kenny made Caldwell look good. When you have to divert your best defenders on those two, it allows weaker defenders to cover the others and that was the case last year. Also, Caldwell will have more people his height boxing him out and playing D on him.

Dalton will be fast, and full of shooters. they rae probably the 2nd best team on paper going into the season. I don't know if I would call them a favorite because of their lack of height to cover the interior. The best thing they have going for them besides the players they have returning is that cracker jack box gymnasium they have that makes you feel like you are being swallowed up by the walls

Northwestern is probably my favorite for the league title and it is based mostly on coaching. We will find out what Snowbarger can do once this season is over and a lot of his talent is drained from the previous two seasons and this one. Northwestern will have the best shooter in the league (yes, Smithville i said the BEST shooter in the league because he can handle people being on him) in Brennan McKean, but they also have some good role players as well. Cherry, Forbes, and others
  • thePITman
Northwestern lost the best player in the league, IMO. It will be tough to replace do-everything Lucas McKean.

Just reading some quick things here.

In my opinion Smithville is the favorite to win the league.

While people say Corey will have taller kids boxing him out this year, you can't forget about Derek, he basically steps into Kenny's role from last year.

I will take Snowbarger and his staff over any other in the league right now.

Frizell is the best shooter in the area this year, not saying McKean can't do more, but pure shooting it's Drew in my opinion.

Pit, Luke was a great player, but I would take Kornowski or Bates over anybody around last year, and then probably Bolyard from Orrville before Mckean.

I will go will this for league predictions.
    Smithville
    Hillsdale
    Dalton
    Northwestern
    Norwayne
    Rittman
    Waynedale
    Chippewa

this was said about snowbarger in the other site and I agree he is very good. I also think there is no way you can say he is the best in the league. 5 years from now, we can make a better judgement. He walked into the most talent and size smithville has ever had on the hardwood. Alberts has won year in and year out with different kids. Much like shrock and ramsay on the football field, this is a program, not a group of talented kids. Again, I am not saying snowbarger is not the best coach, I just don't see how you can honestly know that at this point.

Amused by WCAL complaining about Dalton gym. NWN's was even smaller before they built.
    Be patient, we gettin' there.
  • WCAL
I'm complaining as a former player that it was hard for us as a player to move in there, but I think its a good thing for Dalton... Like Norwaynes no room from out of bounds to bleacher area. Also i agree, Our old school was pretty tight
  • 1486wd
the playing floor at Dalton is really not much smaller, but the crowd is closer and it gives the illusion of being right on top of the floor. Makes for a great environment. Now our Jr high - that's small! Norwayne is very similar as you said.
  • THE4RINGZ
Anyone remember playing at the old Holmes County Hiland gym? That was something you would expect at a junior high. The crowd was right on top of you on all four sides.
