Ya runnin outside today?
-
said_aouitaSanta brought me some killer winter running pants for Christmas.
Trying to motivate to go try them out. A little icy.....
If ya don't hear from me in two hours, call 911. I'm in a ditch on Dump Rd in St Paris. (kinda kiddin) -
Swamp FoxI ran outside this morning. I pulled our regular trash container out to the street from our garage and then, in a show of running dedication not seen too often, I went back and got our re-cycling can and pulled that out to the street also. Total distance? maybe 40 yards. That is probably on the high side of the truth. As a veteran Cross-Country and Track Coach, I felt I needed to set an example for those in winter conditioning. I think I may have hurt myself.

stationrunOn vacation today so the dog and I went 6 miles in a snow squall earlier this afternoon!! Was 22, blowing snow, and a wind chill of 4, but they had plowed the metro-park bike path earlier in the day so at least it wasn't too slippery. I really dislike the cold, but I gotta admit running when the snow is falling is a lot of fun!!!
LOL swampfox!! -

I'm sure a veteran coach like yourself knows it's most important to start slow and let the muscles warm up. I hope ya didn't go too hard before being warming up on your first set. Better get a good stretch in, so your not too sore tomorrow.Swamp Fox wrote: I ran outside this morning. (hee-hee)
Made it! Wimped out a little, cut the run short. The wind is not nearly as bad in town, then in the country.
Even after all these years, still fun to run in the snow and cold! Ya feel good afterward. -
shooter_mcgavinPlanned on running four but felt surprisingly good so turned it into eight. The metro park near me had plowed out its bike trail but that actually made it really slick. I stuck mainly to the pet trails and unimproved trails, forced me to take an easy pace which is honestly exactly what I needed!
-
GymshoeStationrun and Shooter, wow, wish I was that motivated. Ran 3 in the blowing snow. It wasn't too bad out, but that wind really bothers my breathing for some reason. I love running this time of year mainly because of the solitude.
-
givetallugotended up running 6 with a buddy of mine. I wonder if it will get colder this week. Regardless, I'll run another 6 tomorrow probably.
-
Gymshoe
CC, I believe those kinds of runs (when you're first out on a trail) are the absolute best. Seems like you only get a few like that over the course of the winter.ccrunner609 wrote: I couldnt wait to get out in the snow today. Had a great run down the bike path. Couple inches, no other foot prints. Just wonderful. -
stationrunYou are a braver man then me ccrunner! We hit a high of 16 with wind chills at 4 below so I ran on the treadmill today for 6 miles, boring!!!
-
said_aouita"The NWS in wilmington has issued a wind chill advisory, which is in effect until 10 am est this morning.
Temperatures around 5 degrees above zero will combine with winds 10 mph or stronger to create wind chills colder than 10 below zero early this morning. The wind will make it feel like it is between 10 and 24 degrees below zero for a period of several hours."
Sweet!
Heading out shortly. Get this nonsense over with......
edit- brrr! -

I'm not a real runner right now 609....my Sunday "long run" was 40 minutes.ccrunner609 wrote: Good luck with that one said.
I'm not adventuring out of town when this icy and cold....hell with that. -
stationrunI wimped out again today and ran on the treadmill , just can't motivate myself to run outside in sub-zero wind chills! Do you know how boring 7 miles on a treadmill is? Supposed to be better up here in NE Ohio tomorrow, I sure hope so!
-
GymshoeGot in a really good run (Sunday) even with wind chills near 0. Just something exhilarating about 12 degree temps, a little sunshine, 1/2" of powdery snow on the ground, and 8 glorious miles on a winter's day. I did walk on the hills but ran everything else. I am old, slow, bald, and not too bright, but, I did get my run in!
-
givetallugotsorry to hear that. how long do you think you'll be out? did you slip?
-
said_aouitaWaddled through town. Heading into the wind was a tad chilly, other then that it was nice.
-
said_aouitaLet it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!
-
GymshoeI love the powdery stuff. The snow coming at us now won't be much fun to run in. Not enough traction, but, I'll give it a go.
-
stationrunPut on the "screwed" running shoes today and my dog Jodi & I got in a nice 5 miler. She thinks snow is the coolest thing in the world to run in, it amazes me how she has no problem with traction. The bike path had about 2-3" inches of snow on it and it was snowing pretty good when we went running, felt like we were in a winter wonderland! Could be real interesting tomorrow as they are calling for 6-10" more of snow here in Lorain County over the next 24 hours.
-
givetallugot5 slow miles in 4-5 inches of snow. I wont lie, I'm looking forward to running on the indoor track once I get back to BG

givetallugotlol?! Please explain. I can't figure it out. Communist because BG is a liberal school?
-
said_aouitaThe comment "looking forward to running on the indoor track" made me think of Government ownership and not being "free" to run outdoors.
You all have read enough of my nonsense to know I'm an idiot.... -
said_aouitaThe DII State Wrestling Duals are today at Graham, had to get the run in early. Ran by the bank clock little before 8am this morning, it was 0 degrees.
Good times! My sweat formed a layer of frost. Ice forming on my eye lashes.
Thank goodness for the mask, even though my cheeks are still a tad cold.
mmmm, hot cocoa!

ccrunner, thought you were going to take some time off a while ago? Not following your own coaching advice I see, LOL.ccrunner609 wrote: just got back. I have been having shin pains for over a month and it is in a stress fracture location and today was really bad.
Need to take time off.
Got in a nice 7 mile run today with the dog, the metro-park bike trails were freshly plowed which made for a much more pleasurable run then I expected. -
said_aouitaA tad warmer out today.
Hope your shins get better, 609. Just wondering, how much milk ya drink? After the state meet (Milk Ads everywhere) and (I think) December Runners World which had a short article on drinking more milk, I've been going to town on milk with some Quik mixed in.
I think my old bones like the extra calcium.
