Ridgewood has definitely improved since the last time these two teams met. They made a game of it all the way into the 4th. For some reason Hiland never plays well in that gym. I believe Hiland had 15 turnovers.

It was kind strange (for lack of a better term) when Kaufman had that big two handed dunk a few of the Ridgewood fans applauded it. One lady across the court from me actually stood up and clapped her hands. It looked like a couple of Ridgwood players may have said something to Kaufman about it during a stop in play shortly after. Whatever it was it drew smiles from all of them.
apparently. Actually one of the closer games Hiland has had this year. And you're right--I haven't seen us play really well there in the last 8 years. Not sure what it is---obviously their team must have something to do with it--but there must be some gremlins hiding out there somewhere.

Next game next Tuesday at Garaway. Hope we don't take that game lighly. Granted, they may be down this year, but they have pride in their team and program, and I'm sure it doesn't sit well that they weren't really in the game they lost up here. I'm guessing they will put everything they have in that game, and will bet it will be much closer than the one up here. They beat us, and that makes their season. When was the last time one team beat the other twice in the same year---and both games were blowouts?? i don't remember it in my lifetime. It's rare enough that one team wins twice in the season; it sure didn't happen last year. Be ready hawks.

You can bet Garaway and Coach Shutt will give the Hawks their best shot.

They lost there last year and it didn't seem to deter them from achieving their goals. It wouldn't be the end of the world this year either. Might do them some good to get re-focused. On the other hand, that team last year had Paul Honigford.

    Hiland 64
    Garaway 35

The wheels came off the bus for Garaway in the 4th quarter.

Really not surprised at that score after seeing both teams earlier this season.

    TCC 44
    Strasburg 38

    Ridgewood 59
    Sandy Valley 51

    Malvern 72

    Current IVC standings:

    Hiland (11-0) 16-0
    Malvern (10-2) 13-3
    Ridgewood (7-3) 12-4
    Garaway (6-5) 8-7
    Sandy Valley (3-7 ) 5-11
    Central Catholic (4-7) 7-10
    Strasburg (2-8) 3-12
    Newcomerstown (0-11) 3-13

ok...guess it wasn't really that close--tho it was for 2 1/2 quarters. Hiland so far has been able not to overlook anyone, and play well every night out--if not for a whole game, enough of the game to keep it rollling. Pretty well seals the IVC.
  • Pariah
The game was at 2 points in the 3rd and then Hiland closed out on a 38-10 run. Garaway didn't have the horses and ran out of gas. They would have needed to knock in maybe 10 3's to get it done. I think they got 2. IVC definitely settled. Now the next thing is the district, and hopefully regional and state.

don't forget those 2 tough sectional games... first East Richland Christian then...? Toronto?, Steub CC?, Strasburg?...

He did say hopefully Mirg... No one is taking Rosecrans for granted
  • Pariah
Exactly. Muva is so smart she should be a teacher or something. Not taking Rosey for granted.

On the other hand, I think Hiland beat the snot out of Brookhaven, and was able to win a squeeker against a very gifted SVSM team on the road. They beat a very good Malvern team on the road, and then blew them out at home. They destroyed Worthington Christian. They are battle tested too, and have another tough one ahead. I feel good about how solid they are and how they are playing. Anything can happen in a given game, especially with a team with players like Rosecrans has. I just wish the Phylis kid was still there. They'd have to move that game to the Schott to accomodate the interest if he was still there. OK - that's an exaggeration, but I can guarentee that Meadowbrook wouldn't be big enough.

haha P... I'm surprised at no mention of my reverting back to the old sn ( other is linked to a defunct blackberry email acct)

I seriously hope they consider moving the game to Muskingum if it comes down to it. Also, I have to say, Mirg mentioned them being the underdogs 'for once.' I don't know that it implies that he always thought they hand the upper hand before, but I wondered a bit at the choice of wording.

Well, I am a fan of the Hiland Hawks, but I try to retain some grasp on reality and sanity. I have been frank about the weaknesses of past Hiland teams. A few years ago, they couldn't guard a shrub and just tried to outscore everyone - which worked fine until they gave up an 18 point lead to Shadyside at the district and they were done. This year, the only weakness I see is that they could be in trouble if someone forced them to get deep into their bench via injuries and/or major foul trouble. Other than that, it is going to be very, very difficult to beat this team.

Canton Regional DIV bracket. Hiland gets St Clairsville Christian , tough game ! But not for the Hawks, lol

also known as East Richland Christian, the team Hiland "competed with" last year the first tourney game. Get there early to get a good seat! Was guessing that if Hiland advances, they might likely play either toronto or strasburg, which will be the case. also guessing that will be Strasburg. (Toronto's resume doesn't look too much better than ERC's. Which, by the way, what has happened to toronto? It wasn't all that long ago they would be a force to be reckoned with. I get that they are a baseball school, but recently from a basketball standpoint, they are lightyears behind what they were at one time)) Overall a near exact replay of last year: Malvern and Rosecrans in one district semi, Hiland and whoever in the other. Malvern may give Rosecrans more of a game this year, but doubt it. Would be very surprised to see anything but a rematch in the district finals, as riders alludes to.

Looking ahead to Canton, whichever team comes out of Byesville, unfortunately will have to play garfield Hts district winner the first game, likely VASJ or richmond hts (guessing RH) tho Dalton could be a factor. I think that district has by far the toughest teams. whoever advances, I'm already calling a rout in the regional finals. (Hiland/Mcdonald 2011 sound familiar??)

OHSAA regional bracket show Garfield Hts vs Warren and Byesville vs Struthers, so Hiland vs VASJ would be in the regional final.
  • Pariah
Hiland (or Byesville rep) vs. VASJ should be the regional final. Epic doesn't fully describe it.

Richmond hts is very good as well but I would put vasj there as well. Would love to see Dalton make it to canton but I think my bulldogs will be he'd pressed to take down both rh and vasj
  • ricola
oops, my bad. looked at the brackets wrong...

I think Hiland can hang with any of those teams.

Guessing Strasburg is not in an enviable position right now...with a somewhat po'd and (hopefully) very motivated Hiland team---after their weekend loss--- coming to town for the season finale...

I have a bad feeling VASJ may come out of this region. I can't believe they are division 4....heck, I remember them as a D2 school back in the day.
