People's Baptist looks like they are a first year OHSAA school and they took it on the chin accordingly. Not sure the score tells us anything about the quality of RW.

The Garaway score was interesting. I think Duane Troyer had more than half of their points and no one did too much other than that. I talked to one of their coaches in the fall and he told me it was Malvern and Hiland's world and they were just going to play in it this year. I wasn't sure he was serious, but looks like he was. He said they would struggle.

NCT might be a team to be reckoned with.

From what I heard it is possible but he will not be 100%. Might not be worth the risk to use him a lot. Probably a game time decision.

    Hiland 65
    Strasburg 17

oh my. (didn't see game; first game missed in about 5 years..)
That almost matches East Richland Christian (or whatever the school was last year tourny) in futility. (of course that really shouldn't count, as had we not let them score, they may have ended with 2 or 4). Guess I didn't really miss much.
    Any other scores?

In other news, Burch had his surgery today. Pray for him and family, and a speedy recovery.

I noticed you were missing. I sit in the same row. This game surprised me. I knew Hiland would win but not like this. They could have held Strasburg under ten. The defense was stifling. After Kaufman grabbed a missed rebound and threw it down then followed up the next possession with a three Mark pulled the plug midway through the 3rd quarter.

    Malvern 53
    TCC 39
Travis Tucci led Malvern with 15 so his elbow is healing.

    Garaway 76
    Newcomerstown 56
Duane Troyer had 31 (29 against Alliance), Ryan Troyer 26. Looks like Garaway will not be a push over.

    Ridgewood 58
    Sandy Valley 45

That Strasburg game was one in which you had something you wanted to watch on TV, you could scoot out very early (and many did). It was worth staying to see Dylan's dunk. I thought it was a follow up to a miss, but I was told later that Chase knew he was coming behind and threw it up on the backboard for him.

Hiland's defense is just ridiculous, and I love it. At some point in the season, maybe this Friday, they will have to make a stop to win. I have confidence they can do it. A few years ago I wouldn't give you a dime for their chances of stopping anyone! Good to see them playing Hiland defense. It will take them far if they keep it up.

Neil Gingerich showed his aresenal. He's going to have to do it against good post defenders at some point, but he was really good against Strasburg with 15 points on a variety of shots and moves in limiited playing time.

Dylan's throwdown was definitely off an assist from Chaise. From my angle you could see he went early and high to avoid getting swatted. Dylan new it was coming without hitting rim. The defense was impressive. Is the Bonifant kid playing at the Burger a cousin to Seger?

I believe so. I would be 100% confident that I'm 80% sure about it.

Lol. Thanks for the nomination on the other thread. Drives me nuts. I thought that part improved Tuesday night. Might need them all in Hornetville Friday. Can't make the game.

Yes he is Seger's cousin. I'm 100% confident that I'm 100% sure about it. :)

It's a FREE throw. Good mechanics, visualize, focus - put it in. Repeat. They should be shooting 70% as a team. If they show a tendancy to hover near 50%, teams may adopt the "Hack a Hawk" tactic. I would. But seriously, I think it was just a first game thing. They will do better.

After last year I was thankful I never had to darken the door at a number of gyms the rest of my life: Triway, Conotton Valley, and Malvern top the list! Happy to stay at home on the couch with some hot chocolate and listen to the game!

What are the other IVC games tonite?
  • Pariah
    SV @ TCC
    Garaway @ Burg

    Carrolton @ RW Saturday

I'm with you Ricola. I'm a radio fan tonight. I was frustrated the last few years because when Hiland went to Malvern both KLM and VOHC would go to some bad game between WH and whoever. It seemed to me that they could mark those crucial games like @ Malvern and at least one of them could be there. Tonight's game will be sold out and I doubt there are 200 seats for Hiland fans. So, it's great that we can still follow it.

Speaking of Conotton, I saw Bailey had 33 and 17 in their first game. The kid is a beast.

Won't be making the trip to Malvern tonight either. I've told myself I'll never set foot in that gym again. I think it should be an excellent game though.

Yeah..saw that Bailey line. Quite impressive. And saw that CV put a beat down (40ish point win) against St john (which truly must have nothing). CV may have been as competetive as they had been in years had they stayed in the IVC this year, but fully agree with them leaving. Had heard rumors last year that Bailey was transferring elsewhere this year, which obviously isn't the case, but he is a beast. He would be playing for any HS in the state.
And lke you Pariah, thankful they're actually broadcasting the game. A good move.

I'll take TCC and Garaway in the other games; Carrolton over RW saturday.

Interesting. CV leaves the IVC and might have the best girls and boys basketball teams they have had there in years! Neither of them would win it, but they would be at least middle of the pack teams - ones you would have to take seriously. In other words, both teams would have competed. It was the inability to compete that was a big reason why they left the IVC. Life is strange sometimes. :)
