riders1Hiland starts with Toronto.

PariahNot worried about Toronto, but Hiland will see #4 Rosecrans for the upper bracket sectional title. Neither team seems to be playing their best. Hiland has lost 5 of their last 7 and Rosecrans just lost to River View by 22.
Looks like it will be #2 Garaway vs. #3 Strasburg in the lower bracket.
Not making any predictions, but when was the last time Hiland didn't get out of the sectional? I'm guessing a long, long, long time. -
ricolaA little surprised Hiland got the #1 seed, but in the long run, it probably doesn't matter. They'd have to get past either garaway, Strasburg, or Rosecrans to move on, which is no gimme at all. Kinda like the new Tiger Woods---opponents aren't as psyched out/scared to meet this team right now as they may have been in the past. They now think they can win, which is half the battle.
According to the Hiland program, '94 was the last year Hiland didn't win the sectional. So yeah, it's been awhile. -
PariahYeah it was weird how the seeds turned out, and yet I think it is OK for the reason Ricola noted.
I was trying to figure out who was conspiring to get things the way they wanted them. The best theory that I heard was that the IVC coaches on the lower bracket side decided to put Hiland and Rosecrans on the same side in the upper, and the guy said he thought the upper bracket winner would play Shadyside in the district while the Garaway/Burg winner would play the other team that comes out of Union Local - which should be a significantly weaker team than Shady. But for all I know that's all wrong. -

COACHES do not decide where to put a team, when it is your turn, the coach of his own team chooses to go where he wants to go on the bracket.Pariah;1077742 wrote:Yeah it was weird how the seeds turned out, and yet I think it is OK for the reason Ricola noted.

riders1They will usually choose to go to a spot that is a better matchup or to avoid certain teams until districts, or to have a game rather than a long layoff.
-
ricolai think he was talking about the seeding process, not the actual placement of the team in the brackets. If (a group of) coaches decide how to vote for the seeds, in effect predetermining who the 1,2,3, etc seeds will be, they will have a pretty good idea where those teams will place themselves in the brackets when it's time to do so.

PariahRicola is a very intelligent dude. He should do something important like save lives or something.

PariahThe Lady Hawks broke a team record last night with 15 3's breaking the old record of 14. Meagan Hall had 5, McKenzie Miller and Regina Hochstetler 3, and Jen Schrock and Meagan Beachy had 2 each. In a tough year, that was nice for this team.
Hiland almost won the IVC outright last night. RW led Strasburg late in the fourth, but the Lady Tigers rallied and Cregan hit a shot at the buzzer to give Strasburg a 2 point win. -
PariahHawks lost to Wadsworth by 12 Saturday. Wadsworth is a really, really good D1 team. The Lady Hawks had a bad first qtr but came back and trailed by 1 at the half, but Wadsworth took control of the game in the 3rd and basically maintained the lead. When I saw the Grizzlies at the Classic, I was just hoping that we could keep it within 30.
Hiland plays NCT tonight. If they win, the will share the IVC with Strasburg. Hiland won @ NCT earlier by a score of 70-32. -
PariahHiland won 95-44 and played brilliantly. They re-broke the record for 3's they set last week by hitting 18 of 36. Regina Hochstetler went off with 9 3's and 31 points overall. McKenzie Miller had 19, Bria Coil a career high 16, and Meg Hall had 11. Emily Yoder is playing excellent at the PG. Coaches and kids were smiling and having fun. Great to see. They need to take that into the tourmament with them.
Congrats to the co-champs: the Lady Tigers and Hawks. -

arnie palmerCO-IVC Champs go down (Strasburg that is, not Hiland). Bad end to a good year for them. Big win for Conotton Valley. I played against their coach, Craig Moore in high school and he was a good athlete, but a big hothead (surprised he is now a girls coach, he must of matured in his old age becasue that is the best year CV has had in a loooooooooooooooong time)
That makes Hiland's chance of getting through the district alot easier. -
ricola^^ IF they get past Rosecrans. I think that's a very big IF. Been many years since the Hiland/Rosecrans rivaly in girls basketball...?late nineties? Going on how the last half of the season has played out, Rosecrans has to be feeling pretty good about their chances advancing...
-
PariahI believe Rosecrans is a considerably better offensive team than Hiland, and that Hiland is better defensively. If Rosecrans can score 50 or more on them, they win. If they can't, I think Hiland wins. If Hiland can get 15 each from Kenzie and Regina, 10 from Meg, and 10-12 from the rest, they win. Hiland needs to have a 6-10 point lead going into the last 3 min of the game. If it is tied or tight, they have not won a single game this year in that situation. If Hiland has a small lead at 3 min, it wouldn't surprise me to see Dave put his best ball handlers and ft shooters on the floor, run the weave, wait for fouls, and try to win it that way because we haven't been able to win going at people head up. All that provides a lot of intrigue about this game. It could be a great one.

ricolapretty good analysis there pariah. Especially the part about needing to be up more than a couple points late in the 4th.

PariahIt's fun to look at the Massey ratings for these teams and see what the score prediction is. Hiland, Rosecrans, and Garaway are all ranked in the top 12 in DIV (BR the highest). All have top 5 schedules. Garaway has the # 1 defense, but the #54 offense. No surpise there. Power rankings are BR 5, Hiland 8, and Garaway 12.
The score predictions are:
ZBR 52 Hiland 48
Gar 54 Con V 34
