Inter-Valley Conference 2011-12
-
PariahBardall is no longer at Garaway, which would seem to be the biggest development in the conference. Girls IVC fans everywhere rejoice, hoping to never have to see another game where both teams score less than 40 points.
Ridgewood has an outstanding player in Kayla Tedrick who will keep her team in the thick of it.
Strasburg has their coach in place for the second year and has some talent to work with.
TCC has some nice players returning, Neidig in particular.
Malvern has as much returning talent as they have had in a long time. Interesting to see if they can move up.
NCT has an outstanding player in Allie Hinton, but not a lot around her (maybe as few as 10 kids in the whole program). New coach. We'll have to see what happens.
Sandy Valley will probably struggle.
Hiland got the snot beat out of them by 5 opponents and their coach last year. They had a really good summer beating some fine teams and going 8-1 at the Maine West Shootout in Chicago (2008-09 team went 0-9). Coach Schlabach has appeared to have used last year to get them ready for this year, and it seems to have worked pretty well. Last Friday night the Lady Hawks defeated the defending D1 champs, McKinley, in fairly dominant fashion. They have the potential to dominate the IVC and be a state quality team. Time will tell. -
ricolaIt IS nearly that time again! Anxious to see how this year's race turns out. And couldn't agree more about the Bardall comment! (what is he doing this year?)
-
tfloangelSaw him the other evening watching daughter Sarah at Malone. I imagine between she and Laura at Findlay they'll be fairly busy.
-
NHS44Am I losing it or did Twinsburg win the D1 championship last year.
-
ricola
maybe both...but you're right--Twinsburg won it last year. McKinley was the year before ibelieve.NHS44;979915 wrote:Am I losing it or did Twinsburg win the D1 championship last year. -
PariahYeah, it was Twinsburg last year and McK the year before. Sorry. When you get this old, confusion sets in.
I think Coach B is going to watch his daughters play and cool it for a while. I would expect him back in coaching in a few years. But never fear, Hiland scrimmaged River View a few weeks ago, and I found that Bardall Ball lives on with the Black Bears.
The Lady Hawks have had a great off-season, but they went to Olentangy this past weekend and stunk it up pretty bad. They split games with Olentangy, beat Perry soundly, and lost to Twinsburg by 2, Reynoldsburg by 6, Newark by 1, and Walsh J by 9. They have shown a tendency to start slow and they can play badly for stretches, although their defense is consistently very good.
Dave told me the other day that they aren't afraid to play anyone and that they expect to win. I sense though that their confidence is fragile and will have to keep hardening as the season goes along in order for them to be one of Dave's great teams. Still, last year I didn't look at them as a state quality team. This year, I think it will be a big disappointment if they don't make a serious run at it.
Interesting thing about that is the super bowl will be in the district with Shadyside, Hiland, Bishop Rosecrans, and Garaway expected to be there. Whoever comes out of there will be the favorite to go to Columbus from the Perry regional. -
frackusThanks for sharing this information, which is really very much interesting as well as very much informative too. Its really a great concept chosen in this post. Its really a great effort involved in it.

Mr. 300Hey Pariah, is that good looking blonde playing at the next level anywhere? Where did she end up going if I may ask?
-
PariahYeah, she is a senior at Hiland.
No, has zero desire to play in college. Never has. I think she heard quite a few horror stories about basketball at the next level and decided early on it wasn't for her. She got recruited to the point of some phone calls from several Ivy League coaches and tons of D2 and 3 schools, but she politely has told them they are wasting their time.
Frankly, she has the potential to play, but without the desire and with her life goals, it just wouldn't work for her. She has never really played to her potential except in a handful of HS games so she's just not college basketball material. I'm good with that. She's going to put everything she has into this season and then walk away as a player. I do believe she would make an excellent coach. She loves the game, just doesn't want to keep playing. She connects well with kids so I am encouraging her to stay in the game with the possiblitity of coaching in the future. -
PariahStrasburg beats Bealsville soundly. Cregan had 20.
IV beat NCT by 19 but Hinton had 14 for the Lady Trojans.
SV got beat by TV by 28.
Malvern plays at Sebring tonight.
Wed games:
Burg at Hiland
TCC at Malvern
RW at SV
NCT at Garaway -
PariahMalvern beat Sebring by 20. 3 players in double figures with Wadsworth, Smalley, and Wood. TCC and Hiland better watch out this week!
-
PariahHiland beat Strasburg 46-35 with depth. Close game until late in 3rd when the Burg tired. The Lady Tiger's pg, Columbo, is a really impressive player. Hawks didn't take care of the ball: 19 to's. Ugh.
RW trounced SV. Tedrick had 30.
Malvern beat TCC by 11. Smalley had 19. Hornets will not be a bottom dweller this year. They are 2-0 with Hiland coming in Saturday.
Garaway beat NCT by about 40. Looks like it'll be a tough year in Trojan land. -
PariahHiland beat Malvern by a big score Sat. This is the most skilled and talented Malvern team I have seen. The score was a reflection of how well Hiland played than Malvern playing poorly.
The most significant game was the Burg beating Garaway 34-21. Strasburg looks to be the primary challenger in the IVC.
NCT lost to Harrison Central by 11 or so. Struggles continue.
Ridgewood beat CV by 10. Tedrick had 22.
TCC beat SV 42-36.
A few more games will make it more clear but the IVC appears to line up like:
Hiland
Strasburg
Ridgewood/Garaway
Malvern
TCC/NCT
SV -
hiland78Thanks for the update.
-
PariahRW beat NCT by 15.
Burg beat CV by 14.
Hiland beat TCC by alot.
Garaway gets a big win over RV 27-22. No, that's not a typo. Somewhere Scott Bardall is smiling. -
ricolamust be in the X chromosome in Tusc county---just not their genetic makeup to score a lot of points!
-
hiland78Lol.
-
PariahAlso Wed night, Malvern beat SV 29-21. Closer than I expected and lower scoring than I expected on Malvern's end.
-
PariahOver the weekend:
Hiland over RW by 18 (zzzzz)
Strasburg pulled away from NCT
Garaway beat Malvern by a score of 53-16.
Wednesday's games:
NCT @ Malvern
TCC @ Sburg
Garaway @ Hiland
A Lady Pirate win would put the IVC into a three way tie, but a Hiland win will saddle Garaway with 2 league losses - they wouldn't be out of it, but it would be a hard slog for them.
Sat 12/17 games:
NCT @ TCC
Burg @ SV
Malvern @ RW -
PariahHland beat Garaway 43-34. It was tied at 15 at half. Garaway tired, turned the ball over 28 times, and that was the ball game. The Hawks spurted out to a 9-10 point lead in the 3rd and basically held on from there. Hiland won the rebounding against the bigger Lady Pirates. Garaway is very good on defense.
Hiland is struggling to play offense against good defenses. Dave has changed things up in terms of what they do on offense. I think the concensus was that other teams know exactly what we are going to do - every screen, cut, etc. So, they have changed it up. When you have TV commentators noting that the pg put her fist to her forehead, and that means a guard post up, then it's probably time to change. But the Lady Hawks aren't adapting to that well. They have been running versions of Princeton since they were kindergarteners, and it seems like they are a little out of their comfort zone. So much so that Dave said in the paper that they are going to have to reevaluate what they are doing from an offensive set standpoint.
NCT beat Malvern - in somewhat of a surprise. 50-44. Hinton with 18 for NCT. Smalley had 25 for Malvern.
Dover beat RW 43-32. No one in dubs for the Lady Generals. Tedrick with 7.
Burg beat TCC 58-30. Cregan and Shuster with 10 pts. -
PariahLast night RW beat TCC, Malvern lost to CV, and Hiland beat NCT.
As it stands right now, Hiland has no IVC losses, Strasburg and RW have 1, Garaway 2, and the rest are fighting for position.
Hiland has games @ Strasburg 1/11, @ RW 1/25, @ Garaway 1/28 that will tell the tale. -
PariahMalvern fans were ticked last night. When they got to CV, they were collecting 2 bucks to park there behind the school! A lot of people feel that CV should pay them to go out there!
I'd park in Sherrodsville and walk before I'd pay an extra 2 bucks to see a game out there. And it's easy for me to say that because I went out there for the last time 2 years ago. Last year Punkin was taking the ACT that day. Thank you, Punkin! CV is off the schedule this year. I love to make bold pronouncements that I will never have to back up.
A possible solution to this ridiculous situation: Malvern should charge 4 bucks for visiting fans to park when CV goes to play the Hornets. -
ricola^^ that's absurd. I would agree---you should get paid to go there, not the other way around!
Maybe they were collecting $ for the new parking garage they're putting up out back. -
Mr. 300The IVC has to be one of the weakest leagues in Ohio for girls hoops??
-
PariahI often have a hard time figuring out whether you are serious, 300.
There is some really bad basketball at the bottom of the league, for sure. No one who didn't see Hiland play in the summer believes that much in them, but they are undefeated and will have an opportunity to show what they have. Strasburg has only lost to Hiland, and they have a chance to get the Lady Hawks next month. Garaway and Ridgewood are flawed but still formidable teams.
But to answer your question, no, they are not the worst league in Ohio for girls. There are some conferences in the south and southeast who don't get a team to Columbus ever or hardly ever. The IVC has 2 traditional powers and a couple of other teams in Strasburg and RW who will have good seasons. Strasburg is capable of winning the IVC and the district/regional in D4.
It would be interesting to see Strasburg play Orrville, Garaway vs. Lex, and RW against Wooster. I wouldn't say the IVC isn't out of their league in those.
Very interested in Wooster. They play at WH and at Hiland within a week. We will be able to get a guage on the relative strength of the HC teams with how they do against Wooster.
