Yes....yes I would be.THE4RINGZ;704218 wrote:Anyone up for post game beverages at BW's on Friday?
And lay off Pit. It was an honest mistake. He's not a #$%^ talker. Has no reason to. -

There is still a game to be played Friday night.
I think it's great how these two schools, despite their record, marched through the tournament to get back to where they are used to being. Congrats to both schools, their teams, their players, and their coaches! Tradition at its best with these two schools!ridernation;704194 wrote:the more things change the more they stay the same Orrville vs Triway
Schindewolf and Pappas are two very different people, so I don't think you'll have to worry about Gene making any comments like that. Haha!Flash;704213 wrote:I'm sure the ref's cheated Manchester and they were the best team in the tournament.

I have to be up in Solon late Friday night or early Saturday, so I'm not sure yet. If I end up going up there early Saturday, then count me in for BW's! -
FlashOCC teams still in the tourney: Madison beat Lex and will play Wed. (Milan Edison) and Sat. (probably Shelby ,who we played early) if they keep winning at Ashland. Senior is still in and plays Thurs and Sat. against Sandusky and then Perrysburg vs Findlay winner at Willard HS.s

Does anyone want to tailgate before the game? My woman got me a portable grill for Valentine's day (mainly for football and the state basketball tournament), but I'm up for grilling before the game if I can make it in time and if there is demand. I already have plenty of burgers in my freezer to go around. Ahh shucks. I just remembered that I don't have the right gas/propane tank for this mini-grill. If I can find it, I volunteer to grill some burgers. -
thePITmanI have updated my web site with tonight's score, including a box score and updated bracket:

Triway Titans vs Orrville Red Riders in yet another district championship! Go Titans!
Speaking of tradition, this is the 3rd match-up between these two teams in the District Championship since 2005 and Triway's 6th district championship game in the last 7 years (and 10 of the last 14). Add to that 3 state runner-up finishes between the two of them since 2005, and you have two programs that are used to the big game! Here's hoping to an intense, competitive game where the fans can cheer on their teams and help provide an excellent atmosphere! -
riders1On a side note, we stand alone as the only DIII teams left in Ohio with losing records, each at 10-13 !

Very good strength of schedule for both of us, and traditions, coaches, and kids that are used to and committed to playing their best ball at the end of the season. Good luck to both teams in their preparation this week. -
OQBI just hope the refs don't steal the show and influence the outcome of the game.....I always hate seeing them trying to do too much (female official from last year's championship game) and gets everyone fired up.....let the boys play and decide who is the champion on the court!

I agree. I thought they did a very good job in the Orrville/Hillsdale game with all the big bodies flying around. However they decide to call it, all that I (and most people) would ask for is that they are consistent. -
THE4RINGZFrom what I have heard/seen the officials seem to be letting the kids play so far in this tournament
-
OQBExactly Pitman!
Consistency is all we ask!
Ringz....I agree, so far they have done a great job, but it only takes one crew to change that. -
THE4RINGZThis game comes down to what all big games come.down to: defense and free throws
Who do you like in those two areas? -
thePITman^^ In my opinion, the key is who can control the paint (offensively and defensively). If Triway can keep Orrville from getting 2nd chance opportunities, they'll be in better shape. But if they let Wasson and Winters have their way, it could spell trouble.
-
OQBWhen we decide to play defense we are pretty darn good at it....but I think we all know that free throws and Orrville do not go together in the same sentence. (other than the one I just typed lol) we show signs of consistency, but then have a total collapse at the line.
It's going to be a great game. I think it will be decided by the bigs once again....and between the PG's.
Lawson 6'5"/Grenert 6'4" VERSE Wasson 6'5"/Winters 6'9"/ Pirman 6'5" ... Rebounds and second chance points
Carmichael verse Ray/Landis/Turner....assists and turnovers
Pretty interesting match-ups that is for sure. -

For a minute I thought you were talking about Wooster.... -
THE4RINGZ
No. But Wooster has some very nice talent coming up in the next couple of years. Looks like the drought could soon be over.lvhoops;704676 wrote:For a minute I thought you were talking about Wooster.... -
thePITmanBy the way, if you're interested in a March Madness office pool, please email me at [email protected]. My dad and I run it and have been doing so for 14 years, now. You can also visit our web site at http://www.ohiobasketball.net/ncaa

BestriderIs the game on the radio? I'm out of state and would like to listen, but understand that College of Wooster is on WQKT.

No radio webcast....but PITman does an excellent statistical webcast. Problem is the link isn't generated until right before gametime. Maybe he can post it here before tipoff.
Wish WQKT had a second webcast channel for instances like this. -
thePITmanAs long as I have the complete rosters for both teams, I can start the WebCast. It is completely dependent upon when the teams' bookkeepers at the scorers' table have their rosters ready. Orrville and Triway are normally pretty good at that, so I'm thinking 10-15 minutes before game time. No earlier than 20 minutes before game time.
-
RedRider1You got the rosters from earlier this season. only changes would be JV callups who wont play anyway. Start it now. LOL
-
RRRockHope this winter storm that is coming tonight does not effect them playing the game tomorrow night (4-6 tonight 3-5 tomorrow), I am sure they will do what ever they can to play the game. I am interested to see how Triway defends Orrville, will Snoddy do something different like against N'western or just play it straight and sag in on the bigs.
-
THE4RINGZThe thing about Snoddy is, he uses a trick defense just enough to keep it in the other coaches head, but not enough to be predictable. So you know you might see it, and will need to prepare for it, but it may never come. It is kind of like working next to a guy who has the flu, you think you might get sick, you're not sure if you are going to get, and you wonder.
But hey since we have a day to discuss it, let's look at some defensive scenarios.
1. Triway plays man. Advantages: Control perimeter, slow down the drive and dish, be in better rebounding positions. Disadvantages: Do you have the bodies to play inside against Orrville? Can you aford to get into foul trouble?
2. Triway plays a straight up zone. Advantages: Takes away some of the inside game especially (2-3 or 1-2-2), forces Orrville to use guards differently, and can help to control clock on the defensive end of floor. Disadvantages: If Orrville gets hot from the outside you have to come out, can create mismatches not in your favor.
3. Triway plays a trick defense (box and 1, triangle and 2). I don't know if this has any distinct advantages or disadvantages because it is all so situational in this game. Does Orrville have one player who can take over a game ala McKean to warrant this type of defense? I honestly don't know. Do you mix this in every once in a while just to give a different look? Keep them a little off balance.
All right, have at it, discuss the scenarios, create your own. At any rate, it can make for some interesting conversation on this rainy Thursday.
