Still Going Strong

  • ernest_t_bass
It's been about 5.5 weeks since I've been sober. I posted my struggles on paypay, so I won't post them here.

Anyway... wanted to say thank you to those of you over here, on the cool site, who have supported me.

    Muchas Gracias

Yes, 1_beast has had a lot of great things to say in encouragement. Glad to see him over here.

Keep it man man. Every day can be hard but, the next could be easy. I had a good friend who is still battleing many addictions and I have seen him struggle so I hope for you, your friends, and your family you can stay your true self.

Everybody has their own habits, hurts, and hangups... do not feel isolated in this endeavor.

congrats, one day at a time is def correct! coming from a family with a history of alcoholism, I have voweled myself to NOT become that.. I never drink alcohol.. Luckily I have self-control, and a strong stance on the issue(b/c of past first hand knowledge.) My younger brother, however.. not so much. He has been sucked in quite hard..and it's hard to see. I judge him quite a bit, I dont know how to handle him.. been there, helped him, made excuses for him..but he continues to abuse everyone in some fashion. Havent talked to him in months, and it's been GREAT. Though I am sad, and confused about him..KNOWING nothing about him tends to be easier than KNOWING everything about him(meaning with current addictions, law problems, etc) .. I congratulate you on holding back that long, and hope you continue! I dont know what it is like, however I am almost certain it is very difficult.

ernest he best advise I can give you is don't drink even if your ass falls off.

Right now, my first goal is a year, then reevaluate my life when that year comes. IF I ever drink again, I want to be able to drink a few and be OK with calling it quits. And not drink alone, watching football, etc. Those two will be very hard, so I don't know if I'll ever have another drink.

One thing I DO know is this... I know how I feel now, and I will have that as solid proof to myself, that sobriety is good. IF I ever have that next drink (after a year of sobriety) and I feel I start to slip... it's good to know that I CAN go without.

Good job, but I'm thinking you shouldn't be thinking about drinking, even in a year. Just consentrate on how good it feels to be sober.

    keep up the good work

I agree. At this point, I still think about drinking, but the urges are gone. My first goal is still a year, but I agree with what you are saying.

Take it one day at a time bro. Don't focus on how long it's been, just keep taking it one day at a time and you'll be fine. Good job!
