The greatest? It is probably in my view, Hendrix on Red House or Machine Gun.
    Red House

But, my favorites, off the top of my head are:
    Hendrix on Red House
    Hendrix on New Rising Sun
    Clapton on Spoonful
    Clapton on Crossroads
Clapton on Have you ever loved a woman
Clapton on Key to the Highway
Stevie Ray Vaughn on Texas Flood
    Floyd-Comfortably Numb
    Page on Dazed and Confused
    Page on Stairway

A lot of good ones allready covered on here.

But my favorite hasn't been mentioned. Gilmour on the Wish You Were Here album is great.

Shine on you crazy diamond/ Have a cigar/ Wish you were here.

Soycd though is one of the few 15/20 minute songs i can actually stand to listen to all the way through.

Steve Vai and Kirk Hammett, so the guy definetly knows what he is doing!
If you can teach Kirk Hammett, then you must be a hell of a guitarist.
along that same note...I read in Don Felder's book that he worked in guitar shop in Gainesville, FL before his days in The Eagles, and one of his students was this kid named Tommy Petty
