thats like giving them a tip on top of a tip, does the delivery charge not just end up in the deliverers pocket in the long run?

Aren't pizza delivery drivers getting paid a regular wage, unlike waiters that get 3.13 or something an hour?
  • bigdaddy2003
I made 6 bucks an hour but my tips were pretty solid.

    Usually only part of it.

But if PBob's Pizza has a $1 delivery charge and you order $25 worth of pizza, AT most you are "tipping" the guy 4% to drive all the way to your place and give you your food. If your pizza is still warm he deserves more than that.

I was going to post this exact thing.
    thanks,Dwight(s) :D

Do you think it is fair to base everything on % of cost of food (check) for the tip? A breakfast waiter/waitress works as hard as a waiter/waitress @ Ruths Chris' Steak house. The size of the checks are worlds apart... yet the service many times... not so much. I tend to tip a much, much higher percentage for breakfast, than dinner.

I always tip. Anywhere from three to five bucks depending on the service etc.

Yeah I tend to "overtip" on smaller diner bills and such. It's not uncommon for me to get a $8 breakfast at this little diner in Gahanna and leave $15 total.

No. A restaurant either charges for delivery explicitly, or builds the cost into the product price. That decision has little or nothing to do with the compensation structure for the driver.

well the place i order from has a $2 delivery charge and i always get the same thing, which is 5.50, so its more like 36% tip

AT MOST. You should ask them how much of that actually goes to the driver. I would be SHOCKED if it was more than $1

Do pizza shops compensate the drivers any for gas?

You order something that is 5.50 and have them deliver it? I hope you don't live far from the place.

No. Nor the wear and tear on your vehicle.

yeah so 2 out 3 the delivery charge did go to the driver..so based on that, more than likely they are getting the 2$ i pay for my delivery, which means they get a 36% tip from me for my $5.50 worth of food

In general, drivers get an hourly wage, plus a set amount per either delivery or mile.

Yes. The one my wife works at does.

The place I worked at gave me a cut for gas/mileage on my vehicle.

im a college student with no car, so yes i do have them deliver it, and no i dont live too far, maybe half mile away...but usually too busy to take the time to walk and get it

And out of the other 2 I got no more than $0.50 per delivery. Big ass tip there!

It depends, when I go to my local bars if I get 5 beers it's about 10 bucks and I will leave a 3 or 4 dollar tip. When I went to NYC if I got 5 beers it was around 30 or 35 bucks. Its virtually the same process so I tipped about the same, but would throw in an extra buck or two because I know the cost of living is higher there and I am on vacation. Sorry but I'm not going to tip you over 5 dollars for reaching down and grabbing my 5 beers, thats just crazy.
