Why I have been a jerk lately
-
LJSince last July my dad has been barely able to eat due to great stomach pain. Antacids would help a bit, but never really got the pain to go away. Finally 2 fridays ago he went in for a barium scan. They didn't find anything in his stomach but saw a large mass pushing on the top of his stomach causing his pain. He was then scheduled for a blood workup and a CT scan. We all got really scared seeing as how the #1 reason for an enlarged spleen is Leukemia.
Fast forward to last friday and he goes in and has the CT and bloodwork done. The specialists tell him that his Dr. will get back to him with the results on Monday. So today the Dr. calls him and lets him know that his spleen is not enlarged and has nothing wrong with it. It seems that an accident earlier last night knocked it slightly out of place.
The bad news is that he has a giant mass on his one kidney. He has an appointment scheduled with a urologist for a consultation for surgery. They don't mess around with this kind of mass, they just go straight in and remove the mass or just straight up remove the kidney. That is the point where they will be able to biopsy the mass and determine if it is benign or malignant. So needless to say we are all quite shaken up and I am pretty scared for my dad.
So, point is, I'm sorry for taking this out on everyone. -
Fab1bNo apology needed dude!! Thoughts are with your father, best of luck!!

The EqualizerDamn. Many prayers for you and your's.

LJJust to clarify, the stomach pain has nothing to do with the kidney mass. It's the displaced spleen pushing on the stomach causing pain. So not only might he have cancer, but there is nothing they can do for the stomach pain except elective surgery to remove the spleen.

se-alumBest wishes to your famiy LJ, I know exactly what ur goin' through. I know when my father was diagnosed w/ cancer, my first reaction(other than shock) was anger. I asked myself many times why this had to happen to such a good person. Why was the man that spent his life taking care of his family, and many other people, put in this situation. It took me awhile to get over that, but eventually the feelings changed to appreciation and hope. In the end, it changed my life for the better. I learned that you can't take anything or anyone for granted, because it might not always be there. Luckily my father was in a position where he could get the best treatment out there, and was able to overcome the cancer. He has now been cancer free for 5 years, and I still live in appreciation everyday of the things I have.

ohiotiger33Don't apologize to us man, we are behind you. We are all rooting for him to be healthy and for everything to work out. No added pressure to feel the need to apologize to Freehuddle. Focus on your family (which it sounds like you have).
I don't know what I would do if this kind of thing happened to my dad. -
LJ
Thank you for your story. We are all hoping it's benign, but from what I have read, chances are not good that it is.se-alum wrote: Best wishes to your famiy LJ, I know exactly what ur goin' through. september63I had a kidney removed 4 years ago from a tumor. If they catch it in time, he will have a normal lifestyle. (IF I am considered normal) Good Luck to him and your family!!

coyotes22Sorry to hear about this, LJ.
As I have not gone through this with my dad, I have lost my Grandfather, and an Uncle to cancer. I was very close to both!! I had to watch both suffer, as they went through it together (they were father and son). So, I kinda know how you feel. You and your father will be in my prayers every night, that this is not cancer.
Prayers from Stark County!! -
