bcubedThoughts and Prayers with you and your Dad! September63 is right, hopefully they have caught it early and everything will be ok. The spleen isn't so bad either, many people live without a spleen. Maybe a better way to look at it is that if his spleen had not been pushing on his stomach and giving him the pain in the first place he never would have found out about the mass on his kidney. This would have allowed the mass to keep growing until it had spread and gotten worse.

Trueblue23Don't worry about dude, we all have our ways of ridding ourselves of frustration. No big deal buddy.

I was also kicking cats... but they didn't fight back so it wasn't as fun.Trueblue23 wrote: Don't worry about dude, we all have our ways of ridding ourselves of frustration. No big deal buddy. -
chicago510No hard feelings around here LJ.
Grief sometimes gets the best of us.
Godspeed to your dad, hope the best for him. -
cbus4lifeBest wishes, Bro.

You have to hunt down bigger cats to kick...the ones that could take your foot off in one bite make for a good challenge.LJ wrote:

I am feeling for you, man. A few years back, I lost my dad to Altzheimer's (well, technically, pneumonia, but it was the big A that destroyed his immune system). It was a long, emotionally painful road that led from him just having memory problems to the end, so whenever I hear about someone who's having a scary health issue with a parent/family member, I have nothing but empathy. -
LJI really struggled with whether to make this thread or not. I'm not one to ask for sympathy when it comes to major issues in my life and usually I am quite a private person when it comes to certain things in my life. I tend to whine about minor things and keep the major issues internal. I just felt after the way I had been posting for the past few weeks with it really coming to a head today that I felt like I owed everyone an explanation.
I really do appreciate everyone's well wishes though and the stories that people have shared with me. You guys really have brought me some comfort and I really want to thank you all for that. -
september63No problem making this ur thread. We all like to share BS , but when a situation comes up as yours, everyone here is on your side.
-
royal_kGood luck to you and your father LJ. What you're going through isn't easy. Stay positive. It's the best medicine for the soul.
-

power iWill add you and your father to my prayers. Any updates?

LJThanks guys. I guess I will update since the thread was brought back to life.
He went to the urologist on Wed and he basically told him anything that size on your Kidney is Cancer. The odd thing about Kidney Cancer though is that everything is considered precancerous and the cancer can stay non-metastatic for a long long time (contains itself to the kidney). Luckily with this kind of cancer in the stage he has, they just take the kidney out and the cancer is 100% gone. Luckily they caught it in time. -

That is exactly what I told you in my PM to ya. I had my kidney removed 4 yrs ago. Ive had no other health issues since. Good Luck! -
WebFireGood to hear man. Of all the health things in the world, cancer scares the shit out of me.
-
Con_AlmaGlad to hear the good news LJ.
I lost my father several years ago due to renal failure from kidney cancer. It was the most difficult thing I have ever experienced emotionally.
Keep fighting the good fight. -

Con_AlmaHad surgery once to remove a tumor. It was performed laparoscopically so it was minimally invasive. ...seemed to be successful. He was 81 at the time. Additional lesions and tumors presented themselves on both kidneys. One entire kidney needed to be removed but his age and strength was a huge concern for such a surgery. Meanwhile a tumor discovered right near the lymph node caused serious concern for a spread throughout the body. His kidneys began failing before he could get strong enough to elect the surgery. He was 84 at the time.
You and your father can beat this. The kidneys are so delicate of an organ...but God gave you two. He's going to be fine. You must always believe that. Keep fighting. -

Ah. Yeah sounds like he was further along than my dad seems to be. They are just going to take the whole Kidney then seal off everything.Con_Alma wrote: Had surgery once to remove a tumor. The Dr. is extremely optimistic which I have heard is actually a good sign in the case of cancer and not just a Doctor playing nice.
Sorry to hear about your father. Here in about an hour my dad has his surgery consult, so we will just go from there. -
SportsAndLadySorry to hear LJ..hope everything turns out well.

BigdoggSorry to hear about your dad. Hope his health improves. I lost my dad 13 years ago and miss him everyday. My advice is to spend as much quality time with him as possible. Good luck.
