Has this site jumped the shark?

j_crazyi think it's clear from the name and the circumstances surrounding the formation of this site that it was never meant to be an informative forum. it's just a place to shoot the shit and kill time before you gotta clock out.
my main complaint would be when the rules are blatantly broken (IMO) and there are no consequences. -

Right, because who wants to start topics when all you are going to get is the same repetitive answers such as: "cool story bro", "this", "o rlly" and you know the rest.ytownfootball wrote: There exists a certain bit of irony in those complaining about the quality of topics but rarely start any.
It goes in cycles, just like all the topics rendered for discussion. -
Scarlet_FeverI had this convo today with Rydawg. I even started a few threads of my own that were not the kind of stuff I typically do. However, I told him if that's all there is to read I might as well be part of it.

This (ummm. Sorry.). I was just about to say, I don't start many, if any, topics. Mostly because I know that 10 responses in, it's going to get derailed, which can be fun at first, but get old fast.Society wrote:

Then we aren't talking about subject matter rather than quality of posters, which in a lot of cases is pertinent.Society wrote:

On this we have found common ground. -
j_crazysociety's last post makes some good sense.

It's not that the quality of posters isn't here, but yet it seems that almost everyone tries to get in one of the above mentioned posts, as if they are the first to really post that line on any thread and seemingly being funny at the same time.ytownfootball wrote:

I find that annoying, but to be honest...I'd rather see it 10 times in one thread then read an ignorant, arrogant, dickhead comment; like 75% of everything that you post.Society wrote: It's not that the quality of posters isn't here, but yet it seems that almost everyone tries to get in one of the above mentioned posts, as if they are the first to really post that line on any thread and seemingly being funny at the same time. -
wes_mantoothI agree that the quality posting is down, because there are too many retarded threads on here. Some people just don't know when to let a joke go....see the mtrulz threads.

thavoiceToo many threads that wreak of a 5th grade mentality.
I at least expect to read stuff with a possibly 7th grade mentality. -
ytownfootballThe quality is waaayyy down. Stock photos of the same shit we've seen a thousand times is no longer funny. Cool, you can post a pic, O'rly? C'mon man.
When I look down the list of topics in one forum and see the same poster listed in 12 of 20 threads as the last poster, you know damn well there is nothing there that was contributed that is worthy of a click----exit stage left for me.
The crop dusting of bullshit is annoying and should be punishable by public flogging. -
september63I posted the thread Semi Serious/Serious Forum dragging this down. All of the above mtrulz threads were the main issue I had at that time.

Yes, you made me eat the words I had posted 3 minutes ago. Congrats. Or was that the other me who is a threat to my family that posted that? Who knows?!?!?Society wrote:

The problem is that even though those are gone, something else pops up that ends up turning into 20 copycat threads that aren't entertaining.september63 wrote: I posted the thread Semi Serious/Serious Forum dragging this down. GoChiefsAll the dumbass copycat threads are the biggest issue IMO.
-
september63Well...........There are going to be clashing heads with posts/topics. It is inevitable on ANY message board where the ages range from 15 to 70. A 15 yr old thinks things are funny that a 50 yr old thinks are stupid (vice versa).

BigAppleBuckeyeProbably barking up the wrong tree here, but any chance to get a poster rating system, similar to CBSSportsline.com? For example, if your rating is 98 or higher out of 100, you would have "Superstar" privileges where you can post on forums that others don't have access to? Just a thought.

Good thought, but how would that work?BigAppleBuckeye wrote: Probably barking up the wrong tree here, but any chance to get a poster rating system, similar to CBSSportsline.com? - You would have the all-mighty voting negatively on everything that isn't mature enough for them.
- You would have the omniscient voting negatively on everything that they don't agree with.
- You would have the immature voting negatively on everything thinking they were funny.
Would it really be fair/just? -
j_crazy
have your vote count based on your rating. i.e. if the majority of people think I'm a tool (and i know you do) my vote would count less than Fab or someone with a higher rating.SnotBubbles wrote:

thavoiceThis is like when you are a lil kid, or go away to college, and you have a certain freedoms from the lack of supervision.
Many will abuse it...for a short time but are mature enough to soon get back on track.
Some arent and continue to be screw ups. -

yeah it would be nice, but i dont see it being used responsibly.BigAppleBuckeye wrote: Probably barking up the wrong tree here, but any chance to get a poster rating system, similar to CBSSportsline.com? Yeah, that's what I'd say. You have someone come up with an idea that may or may not actually have been funny in the first place (sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't...the way of the world). And then you have the copycats, which tend to usually be pale imitations of the first thread. Sometimes, you get a really funny copycat thread, but the success rate isn't high.GoChiefs wrote: All the dumbass copycat threads are the biggest issue IMO.
Like with the mtrulz stuff...it started out amusing if for no other reason than him going out of his way to be an over-the-top annoying twit and getting owned by virtually everyone (sort of the same way it's entertaining to play as a stud team in NCAA football and schedule a 1-AA or Sun Belt team just to see how many points you can roll up...there's no challenge and it's sort of a sadistic beat-down, but it's all good). Then, late one night, I get online and see about 50 "family members" and other fake associates with their own thread. I was getting ready to crash and was a bit buzzed up to be making any real decisions anyway, so I left a post in the mod forum saying things might be getting a bit out of hand. When I woke up, things had died down and were cool. -
SageOnce again, this seems to be serious fucking business. Lot of serious faces in here, looking very stern. Scoldings are being handed down. What to do? What to do?
It's an internet forum. And, truth be told, it ain't the "kids" that are causing problems. It's adults who take themselves to seriously. I am trying to weed these guys out, and yet I have my detractors. SMH.
I don't know what you guys were expecting, honestly. The most popular thread in the history of this site was called "boobs." And you guys are really bitching about the lack of intelligent discourse on this site? Really? -
Fab1bI like boobs!
