Quality not quantity...Have you seen There Will Be Blood? Gangs Of New York? He steals the screen every time he is on it and literally makes you believe you are watching who he is portraying..Just watch TWBB and tell me you don't get a chub.

This. I have read DDL is very selective in his roles. Like DeNiro, he is a method actor. He often reamins completelyi n character offscreen durign the duration of filming a role. Can you imagine him walking around Hollywood acting like Bill The Butcher?

I did see There will be blood, which was good, but I didn't think he did anything so much better than anyone else. His character seemed a lot like his character in Gang's of New York. (Which was also good)
He dominates the screen in every movie he is in. Everything about this character, whether it is his voice, mannerisms, etc., is carefully planned and mastered.

As for Bill the Butcher and Daniel Plainview being alike, yeah they are both bad guys. That said, listen to the way the speak, watch how they move, and just take in the character in general, and you would see a great deal of differences.

I'd say Denzel, Johnny Depp, and Russell Crowe are my top 3

    Presently. . .
    1. Daniel Day Lewis - He's the man.
    2. Gary Oldman - True Romance, The Professional, wasted as a good guy in the Batman movies
    3. Philip Seymour Hoffman - He can do anything, comedy to drama
    4. Russell Crowe - Showed great range going from Gladiator to A Beautiful Mind
    5. Robert Downey Jr. - Same as Hoffman
    6. Brad Pitt - Troy, Legends of the Fall, Stoner in True Romance, Inglorious Basterds, Twelve Monkeys, Sleepers, Seven

DeNiro, Pacino, Freeman, and Hanks are all great actors but they have passed their prime. I think Denzel Washington is a little overrated as an actor. He seems the same in just about everything he does. That said. . . some of his movies are my favorites, Training Day being one of them.

    1. Daniel Day-Lewis
    2. Leo DeCaprio (people forget he won awards for his early role alongside Depp in "Whats Eating Gilbert Grape")
    3. John Malkovic (much like DDL, he steals the camera in every scene. Con Air and Rounders are 2 that come to mind)
    4. Denzel Washington
    5. Philip Seymour Hoffman
    6. Brad Pitt (I think guys are afraid to admit how great of an actor this guy is)
    7. Johnny Depp
    8. Russell Crowe
    9. Edward Norton (Tough to get better from an Oscar Nomination in your first role, "Primal Fear". But he has. Most notably in "The Score")
    10. Christane Bale (Needs to be great in a few more roles. But he is on his way)

    Bob DeNiro

George Clooney...ever since Out of Sight I thought he was legit and all of his parts now seem to have the same cool dialogue.
Liam Neeson...dominant actor, great presence particularly when he's a bad guy or teacher/mentor
    Philip Seymour Hoffman...no doubter

I also like Edward Norton..he was great in Fight Club

Hoffman is great. If you want to check out an eary role of his watch "Scent of a Woman" with Pacino and Chris O'Donnell. PSH plays a spoiled Prep School Student. He played the role perfectly.

    Daniel Day Lewis is fantastic.

    Ed Norton can be great

Johnny Depp when he's in the right film

Brad Pitt is excellent when he isn't in a film just for a paycheck (paycheck film:Mr and Mrs. Smith, non paycheck film: Inglorious Basterds, Fight Club, etc). Not to say he doesn't get payed a lot for those but I think he chose to do them more because they had great scripts/directors/whatever.

    Viggo Mortinson is really good.

    Russell Crowe is good too.

Thats fine I guess but I would think you actually have to actually play a decent amount of roles to be all that significant. EVERY movie he's in? He's been in 4 movies over the past decade lol.

Whenever I think of Phillip Seymour Hoffman I think of his role as Dusty in Twister lol. It's wild to watch Twister and sit back and think of him being a big time actor now.

Tom Hanks & Will Smith - They both do something that most actors can't or won't do and that's do comedy and drama both VERY well.
    Beat me to it.
