How long do Muslims fast? Water or Juice?Upper90 wrote: I'm Muslim. So, yes.

ernest_t_bassI used to be in high school, but once I put on weight, it really hindered me.
Upper90... how does being muslim automatically make you fast? -
Upper90
Well, you fast from dusk until dawn. On the topic of "Is that really that hard?" Not all the time, some days are harder than others. It's becoming increasingly difficult, as it's now taking place in the summer months (this year, if I'm not mistaken, it will be in late July and early August), and that's difficult.ccrunner609 wrote:Upper90 wrote: I'm Muslim. ramadan? Basically not eating during light hours for a month? Is that really that hard? Do you lose alot of weight?
It's also far more than simply not eating or drinking, though that plays a large part. I don't lose a lot of weight, or at least not any weight that's significant, or not gained back right away. -
Upper90
Ramadan. It's not automatic, however, many Muslims (probably most? idk, I'd guess most) observe it.ernest_t_bass wrote: I used to be in high school, but once I put on weight, it really hindered me.

You can't have water or juice (during Ramadan, that is). But, in your case, since it's not any kind of religious fast, I'd definitely recommend water, obviously, and/or 100% fruit juice.mallymal614 wrote:

snyds113Mallymall, If your looking to cleanse a liquid diet is your answer.go get some lipton onion soup.Do that with juice for 3 days and you will be clean as a whistle. If you are doing it to jump start a diet also a good idea.If you want to lose weight it does work but only while your doing it.You can't live that way forever.

Upper90No, trust me, I got it.
I just chose to respond in the fashion I did, to be as dry as possible. -

charliehustle14I had a professor who fasted for a few weeks during the quarter that I had him.
He would buy a bunch of fruits and veggies and soak some in water all day...then drink the water/juice mixture at night. He said that method really made it much easier for him to get through the fasting. -
sleeperYou have to do it for at least 3 days to have any dramatic effect, and that includes not eating anything.
Drink lots of water though, and good luck. -
SquirmydogI go for three days every year or so and do 24 hrs often. I have done 5 days once. I would highly recommend timing your first fast to begin in the morning before you go to work or on a day off so you can gauge how your body handles it. Don't deprive yourself of water either as others have suggested. I use fasting for sprirual purposes, but if that's not your thing, have something on hand to occupy your time. You will be amazied at how much time is used thinking about or looking at or consuming food. However, One day is not that hard physically. Good luck!

lhslep134As a Jew, we fast a full 24 hours for Yom Kippur. It gets a little tough.

krambmanI have fasted for religious reasons before. I'm a Christian and when I was in college I used to practice regular fasting as a spiritual discipline. I would fast every week from our Monday night prayer meeting through our Tuesday night worship service. I would also often fact during times of trial or when I had a big decision to make so that I could spend more time focusing on and listening to God. Doing just 24 hours isn't really that hard. Yes, you get hungry, but if you fill your normal meal times with other activities you don't notice as much.
I also did a full 7 day fast once when I was in college. I only drank water for the first four days and drank juice and water the last three. The first two days are difficult because you are hungry and your stomach is shrinking. Once your stomach has shrunk all the way you no longer feel hunger pangs. After about day four it becomes difficult again because that is when you really start to feel weaker, which is why I started drinking juice at that point. For the first 3 or 4 days I pretty much felt normal.
The key to a fast, especially a long one, is to make sure you don't eat too much when you're done. -
fan_from_texasI've fasted for religious reasons before. The longest I've gone is two days. The first day is tough, but after that, it wasn't too bad.

Stomachs enlarge the less you eat, so maybe you should stick to things that don't exist, like the God you were supposedly focusing on listening to. Gobuckeyes1I fasted for 30 hours once...some religious thing our high school FCA did. We were allowed water and juice, so it wasn't all that hard.
