Inspired by another board, what is the best TV show ever?

  • Manhattan Buckeye
I'm going to have to go with "The Wire" for a drama, "Cheers" for a comedy.

"Comedy: The Office (in it's prime)"

I might have to change my response, the second season of The Office was probably the best year ever for a tv show. It is unfortunate what it has turned into.

Some of you apparently have forgotten that TV existed before 2000.

M*A*S*H is the greatest TV show ever.

Before or after Alan Alda took over and got all preachy? The early years - great. The Alda years - uggh.

The years Alan Alda was writing/directing/producing some of the episodes was still very good but also very different. I think the cast from those later years was far superior to the cast of the early years. The episodes weren't necessarily preachy, although some were, they just tended to be more serious in nature than funny. I thought that the more serious episodes gave the series depth and is what allowed it to remain as popular as it did for 11 years.

Yep! I've been watching this season online though and it's amazing.
