I'm a big Amon Amarth fan (Got to meet them once) but I was pretty dissapointed with twilight of the thunder god. I LOVED with odin on our side but Twilight just doesnt seem to have the same quality too it?

I think it is just what I call the letdown effect. It was not as good as Odin but it is still fun and a good album. I am bias though :)

Descent, Your always welcome on the metal disscussion's bro!

I've also got to throw out Ohio's very own Skeletonwitch and their new album "Breathing The Fire". This album straight up rules! The early european thrash influence is very evident with skeletonwitch. Just an awesome awesome album from a band that's headed for big things in the metalworld!

Not metal, but some hardcore. For example,
The Ghost Inside - Faith or Forgiveness

Also still digging Protest The Hero (Prog/Mathcore)

    (From Kezia)
  • DESCENTdmc
i remember seeing the band that The Ghost Inside used to be, A Dying Dream, or something like that while i was in baltimore in '07 or '08 or the Earth Crisis reunion show. they werent that good but the members in that band were in the pop punk band Anchorless and they were passing out free 4 song demos, we listened to that demo for 6 hours straight on the way home.
  • Squirmydog
    Metallica, Dead Milkmen
  • DESCENTdmc
just came across the video for one of the new Earth Crisis songs and video that shows the story of a dude who burnt down a meth lab that dealt crap to his brother

    Earth Crisis - "to ashes"
  • Heretic
On Pandora, listening to The Cryptic Stench by Cannibal Corpse. Now, Field of Heads by Vader.

mastodons leviathan has been getting pretty good rotation with me lately. the next show i get to go to will be shadows fall in dayton with FFDP
  • Strapping Young Lad
My friend saw Metallica, Lamb, and Gojira a few months ago. I didn't know Gojira was there or I'd have gone. I've been listenin' to more punk than metal lately, anyway. For some reason metal is a springtime genre of music for me.....

Hell yes! By the way we need to buy those tickets.
  • Tinkertrain
Seen Shadows Fall multiple times, I can take them or leave them.
  • DESCENTdmc
shadows fall was once a fun show, back in the "of one blood" days. majority of the crowd would be hardcore kids, then ozzfest started picking up on the whole "new wave of american heavy metal" stuff and more and more turds came around and bands put out crappier records. same thing happened to Unearth.
  • Tinkertrain
Shadows Fall would be an infinitely better band had they stuck with Phill Labonte.
  • DESCENTdmc
also just found out this morning that ill be getting to see another 90's hardcore band do a reunion. ENDPOINT will be doin a reunion in may as a benefit for a friend of theirs, in louisville ky. im stoked, they havent played a show since 12/31/94, and since i was 10 that last time they played that motivates me to go. hopefully some other 90's bands join in.

I like All That Remains a lot. Have you listened to the "This Darkened Heart" CD? Its pretty heavy, and about as close to the super old Shadows Fall that ATR got.

but the old Shadows Fall Stuff with Phil Labonte is pretty sick as well.
  • Heretic
For me right now, Dismember's the way to go with the heavier stuff. They've been doing the same style of death metal for about 20 years and it's still kicking ass. Insanely intense vocals with some very good instrumentation behind it.
  • BCSbunk
Falchion is a newer band I enjoy. A couple of songs.

It sucks they split up in 2009

Due to a local music store (in Marion) going out of business, I'm using its final days as an excuse to scavenge through the place.

    Today, I bought:
Aborted -- "Slaughter and Apparatus: A Methodical Overture"
Amon Amarth -- "Versus the World"
Iron Maiden -- "A Matter of Life and Death"
Kataklysm -- "In the Arms of Devastation"
    Mastodon -- "Crack the Skye"

Probably snag 5-6 more CDs on Saturday.

A matter of life and death is a pretty good cd. My favorite songs on it are probably " Different World" and " The reincarnation of Benjamine Breeg"
  • Heretic
Yeah, I'd heard everything on it from last.fm and youtube....I just needed a CD for driving purposes. Off the top of my head, I know I really like "These Colours Don't Run", "The Pilgrim", "The Longest Day", "The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg" and "For the Greater Good of God". I like "Different World" a lot, but not as much as the others. And I haven't listened to the other four songs enough to really form an opinion on them.

For me, pretty much an essential purchase, since I don't recall there being a single song I'd remotely consider a weak link.
