Measure of dumbness, stupid and crazy...

How do you measure someone level of being dumb?

You can take the GPA scores a find you have an individual that is smart but socially unemployable. How dumb is that person?
You may find an individual with the degree but without common senses. How dumb is that individual thinking?
You can find an achiever in other areas but lacking in educational back ground. How dumb is this person?
    The scenario can be endless

I love it when some refers to me as being dumb, stupid or crazy. What they see on the OC is the poor grammar, spelling and writing skills … is that real a measure of being dumb?
Many worldly educator, leaders, entertainers and achiever have this problem but have achieved greatness and worldly accomplishments. How dumb is that. I’m sure that those who ask for my skills, services, product solution and expertise never question my intellect. Year ago almost ever major stadium built required me to support their development project. How dumb?
Stupid! How stupid is it to achieve, fail and achieve time and time again only to accomplish more. I’m sure those engineers, architects, developers, programmers, manufacturing managers in China, India and Germany, marketing managers, consultants and distributors that I converse with daily think we are at the same level of intellectual achievement. Little do they know and I called stupid.
Crazy Oh! Yes I’m crazy that what is required to be an entrepreneur, risk taker, idealist and motivated … Crazy I’ll take that as a comment. Hell! Yes I do thing different, think different and look at things in a different way … Crazy sometimes, Fun all the time
Crazy, stupid and dumb ass is when you call your kid and a friend kid fuck ups. Prefect social skills.. and intellectually brilliant

I see many on the OC who GPA is most likely superior to many others and subject knowledge overwhelming versed, written word is wonderful to read … Who’s knowledge of events, statistic, equation, fractals with perfect grammar … Is that a 6” or 12” Sub bro?

Those graduated young minds with flawless spelling, who careers is based on the belief that profit is a dirty word, government is the answer, the future is in spreading the wealth and taking from those who have accomplished their goals… Here my resume. See those achievement I have accomplished … Those are my own not shared…
What does the job pay? How much will be taken out for taxes?
One more question? Is there a profit sharing program bonus?

Again I ask : How do you measure someone level of being dumb, stupid or crazy?
  • FatHobbit
I typically measure dumb, stupid or crazy by the amount of unnecessary work people create for me when I have to deal with them.

    True that :D
However I have a engineer that I work with, that is way to educated for his own good but is like a box of rocks when it comes to problem solving and common sense issue. I have to guide him, give him direction, place challenges for him to do because on his own he would do nothing ... he is task base only... but with out him many of the things I need done nobody else could do...
It takes him longer and I have to keep pushing but in the end it always perfect..

    Stupid people refuse to.

Common sense goes a long way, but I generally think people who have bad grammar skills and very bad spelling ability are dumb.

+1 on the common sense part.

I look more towards a person's work ethic to see what type of person they are. A person who recognizes what needs to be done, and does it, goes a long way today. What drives me crazy about people is those who just do not have that instinct of finding what needs to be done and doing it.
I will take a hard worker who maybe doesnt have a great GPA over a smart person with no work ethic.

and its when you come across someone with a low GPA AND no work ethic then you have yourself a worthless person.

Ya should clarify the comm skills part. Person to person and actually talking over email/text/fb/etc. Kids nowadays seem to be socially retarded if they have to comm face to face instead of text

We were just talking about this at work. Every single phone call I get lately, they want me to come out to their desk to see the problem because "it would be easier". Easier for who? Just because you're too dumb to communicate/document the problem doesn't mean it's easier for me to do it for you. I've got better shit to do.

I've encountered people left and right who have advanced degrees who lack all sorts of common sense and it makes them unbearable to work with.

It is really depressing to watch people get hired onto jobs when you know deep down they're worthless.

I dunno. What I've seen of the Woodstock generation didn't seem all that promising for their future, but they turned out okay.

I think this feeling occurs each generation, but I don't think the gap is all that different.

Truthfully, intelligence and effectiveness don't always go hand-in-hand, and I too am frustrated when I see someone smart who has some Achilles heel holding him or her back.

Dumb is not recognizing the hot blond "hitting" on you at the bar in Vegas is a hooker. Stupid is giving her your room no. when she asks to meet you there in 10 min. Crazy is still believing this is happening to you just because your a cool guy when she asks if her really really hot red head friend can come too.

I disagree with that. A bad gpa either means you aren't smart or you weren't willing to work/apply yourself. Book smarts don't mean that much, but they aren't meaningless. Demonstrating the ability to obtain the knowledge is more important than the knowledge itself.

And Re: question from op... you learn spelling and grammar in elementary school. Failure to grasp elementary school concepts tends to make a person look stupid.

I agree with that to a point. If someone is too lazy to apply themselves then you can somewhat assume they are lazy. But maybe they weren't interested in one topic, but they are experts in another? GPA in a subject demonstrates your ability in a subject, but not in every subject.

I know plenty of people who were not good in school that are very good with skilled labor or physical tasks. They do not care about grammar or spelling and they aren't dumb, they just didn't value education. (most of them didn't have parents who valued education)

It doesn't mean you are stupid, just makes you look stupid. I would look stupid if I tried to repair cars at an auto shop or talk about the brain with neurosurgeons. I guess context is key, and in the case of spelling the context is society as a whole, since everyone spells, which makes it more pronounced.

My point exactly&#8230;. What someone assumes or sees via a written word maybe misleading. </SPAN>
Listed on the site below is those with dyslexia learning disabilities and other learning disorder famous people have. Some of you should view this list before making your spell/grammar checker comments. Depending on the dyslexia issue those listed would or could have difficult writing, spell, reading and grammar but the achievement speaks volume of their intellectual abilities. Those of you who have such a great gift of the English writing skill should be ashamed of your lack of accomplishments. Instead you make fun of other who have accomplish more with less. And you call them stupid and dumb.. </SPAN>
