    Cant afford a down payment.

Columbus is absurd...basically anywhere that doesn't suck is well over 700/month.

Yeah, I did not enjoy apartment hunting. Good luck.

You'll have to go further out.

I was just browsing Cbus apartments yesterday and noticed they were higher than I remembered.....Grandview especially.

Definitely sucks. I lived in four different apartments/houses while in college. Hated the searches.

 ............try looking in Chicago ... you don't even know what apartment hunting is like until you lived in Chicago

Or NYC, I'm sure Chicago is similar.

Do you have to deal w/ broker fees there? 3 months rent out the door is fucking painful.

I had places lined up months in advance in Cbus. Looking here more than 30 days out is too much. It's brutal.

    Then live somewhere that sucks.

Problem is that I'm looking to live as close to work at possible. Problem is, my employer is surrounded by a bunch of rich fucks. I have to venture out quite a bit to find stuff affordable.

I should've gotten a head start on looking, but I didn't realize my lease ends THIS month and not next. Dumb move on my part.

How much is expensive in Columbus?

The places I've been looking at have been about $750/month plus utilities.

    Places near work are 800+

    Where are you looking?

Westerville/New Albany/Gahanna area, or as close as humanly possible. Employer is sandwiched in an awkward part of New Albany and Columbus.

That doesn't seem too out of line. Or you could just get a roommate.

Or shack up with two 25-30 year old girls. What could go wrong?

I have both owned and rented, I currently rent and rent is for me. Fits my lifestyle. 1st I am never home to do yard work, etc..... 2nd I am not skilled at fixing things so it costs me a ton anytime anything in the house breaks to have repairperson come out 3rd if you are making payments for 30yrs + whats the difference more than likely you will not remain in that same house and will have payments most of your life.....the list goes on and on, so for me renting fits my life.

Same. I don't enjoy yard work and upkeep. I also am not the type of person to settle down in the same place for 30+ years. I may buy one day, but that day is not now.

HOLY FUCK! For 800 bucks a month i could live in a fucking castle in Columbus! Jesus.
  • Raw Dawgin' it
Doesn't compare to NY - but i was paying over $1,100 a month to live in a 700sq.ft. apartment with 1 other person in DC. I moved to the burbs and now pay $1,450 a month for a 3 bedroom house.

Jacksonville is not cheap either unless you want to live in the ghetto. I pay 1200 for a 1600 sq ft townhome on an old golf course with open land, trails, and ponds for fishing. I have door pick up trash service, 9 pools with one being a "super pool" freaking gigantic, gym, clubhouses. My complex is like a resort. I love it. Plus I am less than a mile from my office.

On another note, my time in FL is limited as I will be moving to IL next year for work, so I will be up there hunting later this year for a new place next August.
  • Automatik
I pay 9 and live shoebox studio. I'm losing my mind.

I remember being throughly pissed when I had to pay $500 in Cbus. Those were the days.
