I really dont want banned or anything. I just wanted to be able to have a convo but got attacked. I am pretty sure that calling someone an idiot for an idiotic thread was one of justins rules when he started the new rules enforcement. Im kinda glad another mod showed up to calm things down. According to this rule you calling me an idiot is against the rules. remember you are held to a higher standard. These rules apply to ALL forums (except The Basement):No personal attacks or unwarranted name-calling. Just because someone has a different opinion doesn't mean they're an idiot.GoChiefs;1216721 wrote:Lol. So now you want infractions given for whenever someone points out to someone that they are being an idiot? Is that how nit picky you want us to be with the rules? THAT'S going to bring people to this site???
Damn man, nobody said anything about giving you a ban or an infraction. As much as you bring it up, is that what you're TRYING to do? Will a basement ban give you inter_webz cred or something???
-
GoChiefsIs this where I get to use the "I'm drunk, I must have started a little early tonight?"
You knew when you started this thread nobody was going to talk to you about it because of your past bitching, which was my original post. That wasn't an attack. You started with the attacks. Bottom line, quit your bitching, post like a normal fucking poster, and let justin worry about how the rules are enforced. If he didn't think the mods were doing what was asked of them, he would do something about it. Thats up to him, not you. If you dont like this site, you don't have to post here. You DO have a choice. Nobody makes you login. -

depends on who you are...i got infracted for swearing.....2 posts later a circle jerk pivot man was swearing like a sailor and it was overlooked......the downfall of the site will be the circle jerk, dick suckers that stroke each other on a daily basis.mcburg93;1216483 wrote:Some of the rules for the forum seems to be not followed very well and some not enforced very well. I know Justin wants to make the forum more enjoyable or readable for new members, but to do that the rules needs enforced a little more imo. I still see the personal attacks and people derailing threads. Yet I really dont see to much enforcing of the rules. I know its rough for some mods cause you get to be friends with people on here. It needs to be done if you want people to contribute and not be scared off. I know some of the bantering in threads are good for threads.
I usually keep my rants and thread crapping to the basement. I follow the rules pretty well only having one warning. I do see people complaining about warnings and basement bans. From what I have read on here IMO more people should have been banned to the basement. I put this here instead of the basement hoping to get something other then the usual GFY and op is an idiot. I am curious what people think the site could do to get posters to quit the thread derailing and personal attacks to the basement. -

- Do not continually harass other members (this includes moderators).
- Do not aggressively troll a thread with the sole purpose of derailing it.
- Do not reveal anyone's identity.
- No swearing in thread titles.
- Do not post NSFW pictures (half naked women, etc) in threads without a NSFW tag in the title.
- No pornography or gore.

For example: I recieved an infraction for using the word bitch in a post on the HS forum, yet nearly every other thread gets derailed these days. So, is there some criteria defining what violations of the stated rules recieve infractions or warnings, and which ones don't? I realize it is a subjective decision made by a particular moderator, but consistency needs to be the key.
Was my use of the word bitch more detrimental to this site than the same handful of posters turning every thread into a pissing match?

My post obviously went over your head too. The point isn't about Mcburg QQing, the point is he contradicts himself. One minute he bitches about the rules, the next minute he is calling someone out for QQing about the rules. fan_from_texasI appreciate the insight on the thread here, as getting your guys' views helps us figure out how tightly to moderate things.
As far as I can tell from reading the mod forum, there's no conspiracy to screw certain users or treat people differently. The rules have some grey area. We don't see every post on the site, so it's helpful when posts are reported. We take a look at them, we talk them over in the mod forum, we try to reach a consensus on how to treat the post, and then we act. It's difficult for numerous moderators to coordinate all actions perfectly, so there are going to be inconsistencies in how some things are moderated. That isn't because anyone is biased (as far as I can tell from the comments in the mod forum); it's because it's unrealistic to expect every single person on the OC to view every potential rules infraction in exactly the same way.
The trick we've been dealing with is that not all insults/namecalling are the same. We don't want to moderate everything to death and stifle innocent humor. E.g., there's a fine line between trolling and a meme (here's to you, "first"). The fact that some mods see it one way and other mods see it another isn't indicative of bias; it shows that we're human and reasonably disagree. Obviously, it would be best if every moderator and every user agreed exactly on every item, but that's a bit unrealistic to expect.
Like I've said before, the inconsistencies in moderation more likely arise from borderline incompetence, not from malice or bias. -

This is where I have a problem, if you're a mod Justin trusts you to judge the users. Act on your gut and fuck the mod forum for consensus. Maybe a gray area post here or there, but act and if someone bitches (and the post warrants it)have everyone look and judge. People would chill out on the bullshit if you did that. -
