Are you really going to try and say that you don't consider "bitch" to be a swear word? C'mon Ringz. You're better than that. No list is needed. Use common sense. If you don't want your 4 year old saying that word, then you probably shouldn't either.THE4RINGZ;1216678 wrote:No it isn't please provide a list of acceptable swear words in that forum because it seems rather murky with what is and isn't allowed. -
THE4RINGZBitch is no more out of bounds than ass, hell, or damn. And I used it in the sense of "quit bitching" I was not calling someone a bitch.
Answer my question...how is that more detrimental than every fucking thread turning into a sixth grade girls drama fest? Think big picture and the future of this site. -
GoChiefsIt's not up to me to answer that question. That's up to justin. They are his rules, and his rules state that he wants no swearing in the High School forums. The rule was enforced. Christ. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. People bitch if you don't enforce the rules, then when you do, people still bitch. It's a lose/lose. That's why most of the mods moderate the way they do. Because you aren't going to please everyone, so fuck it, they will moderate what they feel needs to be moderated. If I allow you to use bitch in that context, then I have to allow it in the other context as well. Have to be fair to everyone, right? Therefor, bitch is a swear word, and it's not allowed in the HS forums no matter how you use it. It's that simple.

Im not sure what you are saying here. I will take a crack at it the best I can. I am assuming you are saying cause I start threads in a forum, where anything goes, you are gonna say its harassment cause I come out here in serious business and started a serious thread. According to rules I am allowed to do that stuff in the basement. I am betting I can go to those threads and find posts by you in half of them. Im not sure if this is what you mean though so correct me please. Not sure how that can be considered harassment seeing how we are allowed to do that in the basement. I wanted to see if we can have a serious conversation about the site and some things going on. Obviously we cant cause one mod wants to attack and call names while other posters do as well. I did miss reporting one person that called me an idiot, he was the first poster before pick6 I believe. he deleted it or a mod deleted it.GoChiefs;1216668 wrote:Doing the same? THE4RINGZI realize it is a tough situation to be in being a moderator here. And yea it is a lose/lose situation
And yes you have allowed other "swear" words to be posted in the HS forums, but who cares? I don't I was simply pointing out the difference in rule enforcement, that cannot be debated. All rules should be cut and dry as you pointed out earlier. -
GoChiefsYou can go through those threads and find posts in half of them by me? I challenge you to that. I'll make a wager. Of the threads that hasbeen quoted, you go through them, and if you find that I posted in more than half of them, I will leave this site. If you don't find that I posted in more than half of them, you leave this site. You said you'd bet that you could? So go ahead, try it.

If there were any swear words allowed, it's because I didn't see them. You of all people know I try to be as fair as I can in that forum towards everyone. If every rule was cut and dry, you would have a list of rules to read and then sub rules below them 60 pages long that would take 3 hours to read before you were allowed to sign up for the forum. To think that you can possibly make every rule cut and dry is just absolutely absurd. It's not possible.THE4RINGZ;1216694 wrote:I realize it is a tough situation to be in being a moderator here. By the way, I don't really care which forum I moderate. I'd think you'd be able to tell that by now. Sleeper doesn't post in the HS forums, so he wouldn't know anything about how the moderators are in that particular forum. Seems like you fall for sleeper's puppet master charade now huh? Smh.

mcburg93;1216542 wrote:If you all did the job you were here to do I wouldnt have a reason to bitch would I.
Maybe not, but honestly, you probably would, as nobody is going to moderate EXACTLY like you want them to.
Moreover, while YOU might think that the rules need to be enforced more strictly, stating that it will create a more welcome environment for newcomers, others have stated that the rule enforcement here is already bordering on the JJ Naziism, and they're saying that if the rule enforcement was more relaxed, it would create a more welcome environment for newcomers.
Essentially, somebody is always gonna bitch about the rules enforcement. I'm sorry that it's you at the moment, and maybe things will change in the future such that you won't be, but if that happens, SOMEONE will be. Essentially, when looking at the whole of the people here, it's not possible to make everyone happy, so please understand that while you might think Mods here need to have more strict enforcement, you are one of many, and your opinion to that end will be diametrically opposed to someone else's. To make you happy is to piss them off, and both of you think you're right.
So while you might not have a reason to bitch if things were run differently, SOMEone would.

I know people might hate to think of it this way, but ultimately, Mods are like umpires. Over the course of a season, your team might see a slew of different umpires. Some call the more ticky-tack stuff. Others don't. All might be trying to use their best judgment, and all might be doing the best they know how to do. You just gotta have that in mind.
THE4RINGZ;1216673 wrote:I believe the OP has a seemingly valid point. For example: I recieved an infraction for using the word bitch in a post on the HS forum, yet nearly every other thread gets derailed these days. So, is there some criteria defining what violations of the stated rules recieve infractions or warnings, and which ones don't? I realize it is a subjective decision made by a particular moderator, but consistency needs to be the key.
Was my use of the word bitch more detrimental to this site than the same handful of posters turning every thread into a pissing match?
Being a culprit of derailing at times, I'll answer as best I can.
The rule reads as follows: "Do not aggressively troll a thread with the sole purpose of derailing it."
It's not just about derailing. Conversations go off track all the time, and that's not inherently wrong. If the conversation dictates that it does, so be it. The rule makes it an offense when a poster does it 'aggressively' (I take that to mean 'repeatedly' within a thread) and does it via what our admittedly subjective estimation says is 'trolling' as the only purpose. If someone posts with the obvious purpose of derailing the conversation, and does so repeatedly, it's against the rule. This isn't about a conversation following a rabbit trail. It's not about a conversation gone off course due to a considerable disagreement between a few posters. It's, plainly put, "a turd intentionally keeping an otherwise good discussion from happening." The 'derailing' part is an important element, but it's not the exclusive point of the rule.
I believe "ass," "hell," and "damn" are disallowed in the HS forums.THE4RINGZ;1216690 wrote:Bitch is no more out of bounds than ass, hell, or damn. And I used it in the sense of "quit bitching" I was not calling someone a bitch.

Honestly, this is much appreciated.THE4RINGZ;1216694 wrote:I realize it is a tough situation to be in being a moderator here. And yea it is a lose/lose situation
Sometimes, "swear" words just aren't seen. Mods try to moderate, but we don't catch everything. If you see somewhere where this is the case, make sure to report it, and PLEASE leave at least some detail about why you posted it. If someone swears in a HS forum, put "Swearing in a HS forum." If you just put "swearing," it might get overlooked, as probably 60% (or more) of the reports are made by people who don't even seem to know the rules, so it's easy to overlook that nebulous a reason as, "Well, that one didn't know the rules," because there are a lot of reports done for posts even in here that are solely based on the use of profanity.THE4RINGZ;1216694 wrote: And yes you have allowed other "swear" words to be posted in the HS forums, but who cares? By all means, I don't think a single Mod here is trying to do a bad job or show favoritism with their "buddies" or anything. If you see a post you think breaks the rules, hell, just report it and leave a CLEAR reason for it. We'd appreciate the help, and you'd definitely be helping us make this place the place you want it to be.
*DISCLAIMER: If you go on a reporting tear, churning out WAY too many than would otherwise be spotted in the ordinary course of browsing and posting, you're going to come across as someone with an ax to grind. As such, check your own motives and make sure you're not throwing a shit fit in the form of a reporting frenzy. That's not a post to anyone in particular. Just a general rule to make sure that when you do report a post, it is given proper consideration. -

Appreciated. It's easy for the best of intentions to be construed otherwise, so while it might seem like the rules are either being enforced too harshly or too weakly, the Mods are doing their best to usually try to make this place a place where you don't have to worry about trolls, but where you also don't have to freakishly read your own posts three times to make sure you didn't break a rule because the Nazis will come take you.mcburg93;1216706 wrote:I could carry a convo on with you and fft pretty easy. I pointed out the fact that when you bitch about the same thing over and over, there comes a point when nobody gives a shit any longer, and you just couldn't handle that. I gave you an opinion, and you didn't like it. YOU'RE the one that start with the childish games. hoops23This site has tried to become something it's not. To me, the site was a lot more fun at the beginning. Everybody took it for what it was and it was fun. Now, it almost feels blah.
Why make this site something it's not? To increase traffic? How has that fared so far? There are plenty of organized forums that allow pretty lax rules and are MANY times bigger than this one. Hell, look at RCF. Pretty much everything goes over there aside from personally attacking another member.
It seems this site has the same 30-40 posters regularly posting with a few drop ins every now and then. The site was much more alive back when the rules were almost non-existent.
Now people get banned to the basement for calling another poster a bandwagoner? LOL. -

Lol. So now you want infractions given for whenever someone points out to someone that they are being an idiot? Is that how nit picky you want us to be with the rules? THAT'S going to bring people to this site???
Damn man, nobody said anything about giving you a ban or an infraction. As much as you bring it up, is that what you're TRYING to do? Will a basement ban give you inter_webz cred or something???
