Bengals WR Chris Henry dead at 26... possible suicide

  • detectivegibbles
    RIP Slim.

Obviously Dbag and Tierdouche weren't raised on respect. 10+ cool points for you two. Go start a "Chris Henry Joke Thread" and get out of here.

Dude made too many mistakes, but was trying to turn his life around and it looked like he was headed in the right direction.

I don't think it's the time for jokes, but I do have to agree with Tiernan in a way. First off, I don't care about Chris Henry. It's sad to hear, but it doesn't affect me so I'm not going to be putting "RIP Chris Henry" on my facebook like all my friends are.

Secondly, whether is right to say or not, this is a guy who was trouble. Sure he seemed to be turning his life around, but he has always been a screw up. From his younger days, to his days at WVU when he roomed with Pac Man Jones and was a train wreck to his early years in the NFL. I'm not saying that he deserved to die, because he didn't. But it's hard to feel sorry for someone that always caused trouble.

And I don't get the media obsession with this whole tragedy. Sure he was an NFL player, but there have been much worse things that happened here in Ohio over the last couple weeks that I feel much worse about.
That's about how I feel about it. I'm not going to make jokes or use his death as an excuse to bash him, but I'm more apathetic towards his passing than anything else. The dude had a history of legal issues. He'd kept out of trouble for a couple years, which had allowed him to maintain an NFL career, but when someone has the history he did, I think the odds of him keeping himself clean long-term weren't that good.

While I don't know all the actual facts concerning last night, from what I've gathered from news stories, it's quite likely he had some sort of meltdown last night. Sure, there might be some completely logical abiding-by-the-law reason he decided to leap into the back of a pick-up his fiancee was using to seemingly get away from him, but the way it reads, I'd guess she was trying to flee him (out of fear or out of an "I'm sick of this and I'm gone" type of dispute) and he took things to the next level, which led to this unfortunate incident. Maybe there's more to it than that, but when one person is trying to get away in a truck and the other person leaps into the back of said truck, it just seems like she was trying to get away and he wasn't going to let her.

You can hardly say that people shouldn't jump to conclusions about what "may have been taking place". The Tiger Woods stuff is STILL going on. That's the way the media and people work. I agree with you, but it's never going to work that way.

Also, I'm not a Chris Henry hater. I never liked the guy, but wouldn't wish anything bad on him. I'm just curious as to how people can say he was "turning his life around" when the speculation is that he was chasing his fiancee and jumped into the back of a moving vehicle? Again, I'm not hating on the guy. I'm just curious how people can possibly think he was on the right track.

In all fairness, a death and an affair are two different beasts.
  • Tiernan
Skyhook79 wrote: Is there any truth to the rumor that the Chris Henry family has asked dlazz and Tiernan to give the eulogy?
Not yet. But I'm sure they might like internet tough-guy J_Crazie to do a nice memorial laced with his usual F-bombs & standard "ass-clown" put down. Those of you using the word tragedy really need to look up the meaning of the word. Tragedy is when young 26 yr old Marines come home from Afghanistan draped in the US flag. This was nothing more than an unfortunate incident that truly impacts very few people outside the Henry family.

The loss of a young life no matter what your opinion Tiernan is a TRAGEDY.

Perhaps you should look that up instead of just spewing your unintelligent hate on this board.

This impacts the entire Bengals family, fans and of course his own family.

    Have some respect.

The first sentence made me laugh, power_i, because its so true. Perhaps not to the same level, but I would also wager that all of us have done some stupid shit at some point in our lives in the name of love.
just_a_swimmer wrote: Where are all of you that are posting about what happened getting your info? I have read nothing about how he fell out, how fast the truck was going or anything like that. I also never read that he was trying to beat the crap out of her. Do you have links?
That was my question, too. I've been reading the news stories and have seen nothing that indicates he was attacking her or trying to beat the hell out of her. To say so without having any basis in fact is just irresponsible.

I don't follow the NFL like I used to, but anytime someone so young dies, it's sad to me. He certainly had his issues in life, but it does sound like he was genuinely trying to grow up and behave like a man instead of a punk.
  • Tiernan
Other than the revenue loss to his family (assuming he actually paid the bills?) this will not impact you, the Bengals (he was out for at least 4 wks and was probably trade bait) or their fans one iota.
  • BigAppleBuckeye
Really sad ending to a troubled life. I was truly sorry to read about this, regardless of the cause, when a father of young children dies, it's always a tragic day.

A bizarre sidebar: a guy I play fantasy baseball and football with has had the following players on his teams (both baseball and football) in recent seasons:

    *Nick Adenhart
    *Steve McNair
    *Chris Henry
  • bLuE_71
Tiernan you are silly if you think that Bengals fans aren't impacted by this. This kid was really turning the corner and seemed and as a fan of the team it's hard to see something like that happen.

He was an impact player when he played and would have continued to be.

Very sad...even moreso that he seemed on the verge of finally getting his shit together.

He had the talent to go down as one of the all-time greats, IMO. RIP Slim.

It is tragic that a young man lost his life. But, c'mon now.....All time greats? Great whats? Underacheiver? He had 6 arrests in 3 years of NFL. He was one of the all time greats at that maybe.

911 tapes described a shirtless man beating on the back window of a pick-up truck, which could have just been him trying to get her to stop and talk.

But it certainly qualifies as very aggressive behavior. Stupid and foolish and it cost him his life.

Why would ESPN, NFL Network, ABC(ESPN is in their family of networks), FOX News/FSN (Fox shows NFL games), NBC/MSNBC(NBC shows games), CBS(they show games), WVA and Cincy(as well as the the entire state) news NOT cover this story? Why would they(those outside out of the state) write about those stories that have happened in the past few weeks over this story? Thats for the local and state news. Write to or watch ONN and your local channels for that.

RIP from a fellow Mountaineer. He went to WVu at the same time I did, great talent. It's sad for the kids and his family.

RIP Chris Henry! Now..I for one think it is a tragedy and a shame this happened. He seemed to have been getting his life turned around. And I for one agree that this is not a matter where any 'jokes' should be involved. Now..with that being said..go look at the thread about the passing of Oral Roberts..plenty of jokes and bashing were thrown around there..and only a couple of people said it was wrong to talk about him like that right after he passed. So now..b/c it's an athlete..your not allowed to say anything negative about him or joke about him? Like I said..I don't condone it..I think it's classless as well..but come on..some people need to quit being hypocrites here.

ditto. every celebrity death is going to polarize people. No point getting upset about jokes and cheapshots.

Well, Oral Roberts died from natural causes, so it is much easier to make jokes about a man who's time had come. Whereas Chris Henry died from a tragic accident at a young age. Not saying it is right, but it is what it is.

What's unreal about it? Both celebrities that passed away..it's ok to make fun of the death of one but you can't the other? No..not hardly. Not comparing Oral Roberts and Chris Henry either..comparing the fact that they both died this week and there were threads about them. Where the hell did I compare Mr. Henry and Mr. Roberts?
