watering your yard?

  • said_aouita
Are you watering your yard or just letting the grass turn yellow?
  • Belly35
It is not good to water your yard in this heat.
Once you start you have to continue or you will have more problem ... weeds and burned out areas

I understand if you have new sod yard or a yard that was sod ..... (not sure) but you have to water it or it will burn the roots.

I have a fairly big yard. I water the back yard where the kids play/people hangout. The rest is pretty much dead.

Dead grass doesn't need mowed. That is my answer...

No watering here. Saves gas on mowing. Saves money on the water bill too.

An advantage of an older place is a well-established lawn. It will go dormant, but would take an extended drought to actually die.

Couple areas bc of planted grass.

Yes, we water. Our yard isn't too big (a bit under half an acre), and we have an underground sprinkler system built in, so it's pretty easy to water. It doesn't make that big of a difference in our water bill.

Not watering, but a friend of mine got a water bill that said he used over 11,000 gallons over the last month from watering

I try to water our entire yard every day. The condo management people really hate it.

Debby watered my yard all week. Looks good.

Watering your lawn is a complete waste of time and resources.

I know who doesn't water his yard: Con_Alma.

    @CoA - Report him for implying you're a retard.

I try to water the grass at night so it's not soaked by the time the sun is 1000 degrees the next day.

Don't plant grass during a drought.

    I agree with CoA though.

I usually try to water the lawn between 3-5pm during the day.

I figured it is the hottest part of the day so the grass must really need some water and cooling down during that period.

I also know that people lose alot of salt when it is hot and when they sweat so I plan on putting some salt down in the yard today to help it retain some of the water I am putting on it.

The problem is that the water acts as a prism, and actually makes the grass warmer if the sun is shining.

Maybe its bc I'm not a home owner, but I just never understood the fancination with green lawn. I mean who gives a shit if you have a nice pristine lawn. Seems like its just for show and is a lot of work. If I own a home, I hope to have something different.

True but I have a pump that draws water from the lake and hydrates my wife's garden! I love squash in the fall.

I don't water the lawn but I do water five trees that have been in the yard for less than a year.
