  With the ex, I just sort of proposed.
  
  She didn't have that great of a relationship with her bio dad, so I didn't really care what his opinion/approval/whatever was, so I didn't ask him. She had a better one with her step-dad, but yeah...like I'm asking permission from non-blood. I guess I could have done so with him or her mom if that sort of thing seemed important, you know...to maintain some sort of "team player" dealie, but it didn't, so I didn't. Whatever. Shit got bad anyway...it'd have fucking sucked to know I actually lowered myself to ask permission for something that didn't work out in the long run.

  Haven't proposed to the girlfriend as of yet, but if I decide to I will ask for her father's blessing. I don't need his permission, but I respect the man enough to ask for his blessing. I look at it as a gesture of respect and the man is very deserving of respect.
