Could you get 576,000 miles out of your car?

Fab1bShe did:

I damn sure know my truck ain't going that far! These days, most people consider themselves lucky if a new car lasts 5 to 10 years. Make it to 100,000 miles in your vehicle, and the car company might make a commercial about you. That makes 93-year-old Rachel Veitch a notable exception. Veitch is retiring her 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente after more than 576,000 miles on the road -
wildcats20Nope. And I wouldn't want to.
-
Fab1bI would, no payments nor dropping any further cash on another car that long?? Shit!!! I haven't made a car payment in 6yrs and won't again. Gonna buy my next and future straight cash! Probably will replace my truck after this summer.

Mr MiyagiMy wife drives a '98 Toyota Tercel that has 288,000 miles on it. She refuses to get rid of it because it still gets 38 MPG. Will pay cash for next vehicle also. I can't remember having a car payment
-
THE4RINGZI haven't had a car payment for over 15 years. My wife's car has almost 200,000 miles on it bit her daily commute is 4 miles round trip.
-
Fab1bMy daily commute is 2 miles. I would walk but working till late not worth the risk and riding bike in summer way to hot and no locker room to freshen up in.
-
I Wear PantsMy car is going to hit 200,000 next week sometime.
Another one my family has is at like 270k or something like that.
It's a mixture of not giving a shit about a car as a status symbol/fashion item and also not having money to blow on new vehicles even if I did. -
kayoDamn, did all you guys without a car payment take MPD's class?

Helps having a grandpa and uncle that are mechanics. Car starts doing something weird, drive over, "hey, can you look at this?". Only problem is the assholes never charge us for labor so we have to just guess an amount to give to them or feel like assholes ourselves for abusing our relations. -
Fab1bI don't care about social status as long as the fucker runs I'm good!

yep. my grandpa used to have his own mechanic business. I've learned a lot from him. If something new comes up, I'll just give him a call and explain the problem and he knows exactly what it is. Saves me a lot of money. In fact, I have NEVER payed for a mechanic to work on any of my vehicles.I Wear Pants;1135176 wrote:That too.

Raw Dawgin' itI should hit 200k by the fall of next year.
-
Fab4RunnerMy car has 214,000 miles on her. I plan to get a new car this Fall or Winter and will pay cash. I will be sad to see Blanche go, though.

Do you borrow it 2 hand out candy and touch kids on the weekends?ccrunner609;1135055 wrote:I have a buddy that has an old van that has over 450,000 on it -
justincredibleI drive Ford vehicles so of course I could get that many miles out of them. Between our car and truck we have less than 100k miles total on them, though. We still owe money on the car because we are stupid.
-
dlazzMy car only measures in KM because it's foreign, so the thread doesn't apply to me.
-
Curly JMy POS 94 Pathfinder has over 240,000 plus on it. I didn't put them on it as I've only owned it a year. It's a 4.4 round trip to work so I hardly put any miles on it. It runs like shit, but makes up for it in its ugliness.

OSHI enjoyed reading about that lady yesterday. I sure hope Jay Leno buys the car from her.
It was funny to hear her say she won't pass it on to family because "they won't take care of it like it needs" or something to that effect.
I have a Dodge Stratus that has 130,000...and I feel like it's going to kick the bucket, unfortunately. It's in the shop. Needs more work done. And I feel like I've taken decent care of it. -

That's fantastic.Fab1b;1135067 wrote:I would, no payments nor dropping any further cash on another car that long?? ****!!! I haven't made a car payment in 6yrs and won't again. Gonna buy my next and future straight cash! Probably will replace my truck after this summer.
We replace each car after either 10 years or 200,000. They are alternating so it's usually one new car every 5 years or so. -

Perfect!!!! That's pretty cool to see people doing this. Good for you.Fab4Runner;1135317 wrote:My car has 214,000 miles on her. I plan to get a new car this Fall or Winter and will pay cash. I will be sad to see Blanche go, though.
