  There is a difference between race and nationality.
  
  You can be black and be irish, italian, or whatever, but you cant be white and be black.

  Then show me the scholarship for "black" students. Keep in mind...using your criteria "African-American" doesn't mean black, because you can be white and have an African-American nationality.

  there are scholarships for people from appalaccia(sp) that go to i would say 99 percent whites. however since i am half black and half white and from west virginia i recieved some book money back in the day. i also recieved some book money for being poor and black. so i guess you can be black and white

  If you are mixed African-American and Caucasisn...you can apply and be considered for any scholarship that is African-American only and those that are open to all races.

  affirmative action by definition is racist. It's giving preferential treatment to a stated race, while disallowing it for others. Whatever the reasons for it (good or bad), the act itself is racist.

  But African-American is technically a nationality, not a race then. So scholarships set up for only African-American students are not racist.

  It is considered a race in this county by the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). They require businesses to track and monitor 'progress' for minorities and women in terms of applicants for jobs, promotions and a whole host of other statistics vs. caucasian workers.
