School shooting in Chardon

Fab1bIt wasn't even my point it is more of the way I remembered things. So it was a generalization think that has been clearly established want a cookie or something? I still won't change my stance that society today is much softer than I saw it growing up but whether it's a generation thing or not I said I don't know!

Seriously though I never heard of school shootings before columbine. So Im with fab for the most part. You had to search to find out about it which means you didnt know either. Until you put up numbers I would guess no one on here knew those numbers. Also If I had to guess no one on here knew there was school shootings before columbine on here. Therefore the question is kind of a moot point. -

I was fully aware there were school shootings prior to Columbine.mcburg93;1099398 wrote:SYou had to search to find out about it which means you didnt know either.

I didn't put up any numbers
You're not giving people much credit. Also If I had to guess no one on here knew there was school shootings before columbine on here. -
justincrediblePer twitter, the shooter did not know any of the victims.
-
WebFireI agree that is seems more common today, even though the numbers might say otherwise. I'm sure much of it is due to increased media exposure with the internet and social media.

HereticWell, one reason why things like this didn't really get infamous until Columbine was because that was the first really big sort of thing that happened after the internet got going and information about everything was easy for anyone to get. Not saying the two are attached at the hip, but it seems like a lot of things seem more prevalent now and I often wonder if they're really on the rise to a crazy degree or if they're just more noticeable because you can find info on them immediately from a million sources, as opposed to having to huddle around the old 13-inch black-and-white TV while fiddling with the rabbit ears so you can actually get a damn picture tonight.

Mooney44CardsI'm sure the search is well under way, but has any scapegoat been found yet?

We, the taxpayers, just spent 17x$26,000(the last number I remember hearing for a per inmate)= $442,000 + the tremendous price of his appeals. It's bull****. I know I'm glad he has to face the families of the people he murdered, but because of how our appeals system(even though Ohio moved appeals straight to the Ohio Supreme Court, the Feds still take a while and cost) works he is more likely to die in prison than actually get the needle. Granted, I just moved to a different topic, but how is that fair? The typical insanity bull**** will be pleaded, but I hope to God he doesn't get off.
This is the type of case where a pistol with one bullet is needed.
The old fashioned way was to shoot each other in a duel, so it is sort of the same thing.Fab1b;1098952 wrote:If you can't say society as a whole is weaker today than it was 10-20 years ago then I'm not sure what else I can say. No one solves problems the old fashioned way anymore, they shoot. Kids don't play outside, too many kids don't play sports, the rules in sports have changed drastically, everyone sues everyone when the wind blows the way they don't want, I could go on all day!
You never heard of any shooting in a school before Columbine? You don't remember Kip Kinkel?mcburg93;1099398 wrote:Seriously though I never heard of school shootings before columbine. Columbine is remembered more often because it was deadlier, but there have been shootings since I can remember (I'm 29).

I graduated in 2004. Since then I've gone into my high school and just walked into it. My school probably has like 400 kids or less for 7-12th in this building. I mean your supposed to go into the main office and sign in and all but its so easy to bypass that. Although they are currently building a new school so I don't know whats being done there.Gblock;1099615 wrote:thats just dumb...i hope your joking....but seriously since columbine i think you will be hard pressed to find a school you can just walk into.. try it then get back to me
Also I had heard of school shooting before Columbine but I'd say because of the internet and how many kids were killed they became a much bigger deal and people knew about them more. -

Gblockhmmmm...i stand corrected im surprised in this day and age that administrators would open themselves up to that type of liability.
-
Mooney44CardsI think its hilarious, one of the first (over)reactions I heard on the news was something like "You wonder why they don't have metal detectors there and if something like a metal detector might have prevented this."
As if metal detectors are some magic barrier that makes a gun disappear when you walk through it. -

In the AM when everyone is arriving to school it is quite common. You gonna have 1100 (Chardon) kids each press a button to be buzzed in? And just use one entrance?
This kid wasnt an outsider. All Chardon kids gather there to be bused elsewhere (Auburn Career Center, Lake Academy) if i remember right, they even bus kids to Notre Dame/Cathedral Latin and Mentor Lake Catholic. -

.....wait, fighting over cross country?............anyways, did that guy pick on you any more after you broke his jaw?..........over cross country....Iliketurtles;1099101 wrote:Again who's fault is that? Maybe if the PARENTS of those kids didn't buy them those things and didn't let them spend all day on them it wouldn't be a problem. Also you claim that kids should stand up for himself and fight back? You know what happens the kids who fights back will most likely get picked on more and if he really stands up for himself and actually hits whoever is bullying him he most likely going to set suspended/expelled(depending on what happens probably have charges pressed against him because the bullies parents will force it. I know because it happened to me. I was a senior in high school pretty had gotten picked on ever since I moved to Ohio in the 5th grade.(And well before I moved to Ohio as well lol). But we had a lifting class and I was in there with a bunch of football players a few of them liked to really make fun of me and one kid always kept bringing up and making fun of me for missing out on going to state in cross country by 2 seconds. One day I'd had enough and just let it all loose and tackled him and got about 5 good punches in before I was thrown off him. I broke his nose and jaw. I was suspended for 5 days and had to do 100 hours of community service.
Again kids these days are not the problem with pussifing America its the childrens parents who are in your generation who have done things to make that happen. (Buying their kids whatever they want, taking things out of school, taking scoring out of youth leagues, giving everyone one a trophy, molesting kids so parents are more afraid to let there kids go outside, etc.) I mean there are countless things different from when I was kid and I'm only 25.
Also I think its great we have the media oulet we do now to hear about all this stuff. I think the more we hear about it the more we can take the steps to hopefully make sure it doesn't happen again. -

You should have been expelled for that kind of behavior. Whats wrong with just walking away and taking it up with him OFF of School property? -
Gblockif they all meet at the school and are bussed diff places that is different obviously my comments werent pertaining to that situation....if it is only students from 1 school 1100 or not there should be a procedure in place to keep non students out...ive taught in a hs school this size before and after the first 4-5 weeks you wouldnt get very far without being stopped by someone. im surprised that folks think its ok for this amount of lax security and would send your kids to a school with the understanding that anyone could walk in...morning or not. i would not send my kid to a school like that unless it was in the boonies and even then i prolly would have a problem with it.

never said it would...condoms dont 100 % prevent pregnancy or hiv...but i still recommend them. either way schools should be secure locations...random people off the street shouldnt be allowed to walk in is all im saying.Mooney44Cards;1099814 wrote:How does ANY of this prevent a school shooting?

How do you know there aren't teachers standing outside watching the students come in? From all accounts, this kid was supposed to be where he was so no one would have stopped him from getting in...aside from metal detectors. -
